Abstract: A system for negotiating Ethernet link settings between interconnected nodes in a network having an Ethernet protocol stack that includes a PCS sub-layer with an auto-negotiation function. The system comprises connecting an intermediate device coupled between two network nodes via optical or copper interfaces, with the link settings between each node and the connected intermediate device being the same, thereby bypassing the auto-negotiation of the PCS sub-layer in the intermediate device. The intermediate device may transparently send negotiation messages from each node to the other during the link negotiation phase without interacting with those messages. Instead of the intermediate device, a single form pluggable (SFP) device may be connected between the two network nodes via optical or copper interfaces on the network side and via an SFP slot on the device side.

  • Patent number: 9439089
Abstract: Methods and systems for performing a round trip time determination between two devices are described. An example method may include publishing, over a wireless network interface by a first device within a neighbor aware network (NAN) cluster, a schedule that invites devices within the NAN cluster to request, within a time window, to perform a round trip time (RTT) determination with the first device. The schedule may indicate that the time window begins at a time offset from a NAN discovery window and ends after a predetermined period of time has elapsed. The method may also include receiving a request, from a second device within the NAN cluster, to perform the RTT determination with the first device. The method may also include performing the RTT determination with the second device.

  • Patent number: 9420511
Abstract: Embodiments for signaling quality of service (QoS) requirements and user equipment (UE) power preference in LTE-A networks are generally described herein. In some embodiments, a power preference indication (PPI) is received at an eNB from a UE to set a power saving preference for the UE. A communication session is established using radio resource control (RRC) messages between the UE and the eNB to identify a preference for QoS configuration for handling traffic provided to the UE by the eNB. The QoS for traffic provided by the eNB to the UE is managed by the eNB based on the identified preference for QoS configuration for handling traffic provided to the UE.

  • Patent number: 9391885
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for configuring a provider edge (PE) network device of an Ethernet virtual private network (EVPN) to use a common traffic engineering label (e.g., MPLS label) for different EVPN route types associated with the same EVPN. In some examples, the techniques include sending a first layer three (L3) control plane message that indicates a label-switched network protocol label that corresponds to a first EVPN route type, wherein the first L3 control plane message indicates that a first PE network device is reachable in the L2 segment. The techniques may include performing L2 address learning to determine at least one L2 address associated with the layer two segment of the EVPN. The techniques may include sending a second L3 control plane message that indicates the same label included in the first L3 control plane message corresponds to a second EVPN route type.

  • Patent number: 9369149
Abstract: The method and apparatus of the present invention provides for reduced power consumption and cost while supporting wide bandwidth signals from a large number of antennas, as is required by next generation systems. In accordance with the present invention, a method and apparatus are provided for processing data in a baseband unit in which compressed signals from remote radio units are sent directly to the switch instead of to a separate conversion device. Thereby, the local input and output bottleneck within processing devices is removed in the data path of the signals between the remote radio units and the baseband unit. This also reduces the number of ports in the switch and bandwidth requirement for the switch.

  • Patent number: 9270564
Abstract: A network element in an Ethernet OAM network is operable to detect congestion associated with an OAM domain and generate a congestion notification to MEPs in the OAM domain using a modified Ethernet OAM protocol. When a network element detects congestion in one or more queues associated with an MEP in an OAM domain, it triggers a congestion state. The MEP transmits a congestion notification to other MEPs in the OAM domain. The notifying MEP, as well as other MEPs receiving the congestion notification, initiate a network management protocol message to a network management system for the OAM domain. The MEPs in the OAM domain may also propagate the congestion notification to MEPs in higher maintenance level OAM domains.

  • Patent number: 9253789
Abstract: A wireless digital communication system includes a base station in communication with a plurality of user equipment mobile terminals (UEs). The system prioritizes the forwarding of blocks of downlink data to designated ones of the UEs. The system employs adaptive modulation and coding (AM&C) to achieve improved radio resource utilization and provides optimum data rates for user services. Blocks of downlink (DL) data are received by the base station which requests downlink (DL) channel quality measurements only from those mobile terminals (UEs) with pending downlink transmissions. The UEs respond to the request by measuring and reporting DL channel quality to the base station, which then allocates resources such that the UEs will make best use of radio resources. The base station notifies the UEs of the physical channel allocation indicating the modulation/coding rate and allocated slots followed by transmission of blocks of downlink data which are transmitted to the UEs.
