Abstract: The invention relates to a ceramic color paste, in particular a color paste containing alkyd resins, for the production of decorations on surfaces of glass, porcelain or ceramic, and a printing medium for the preparation of the color paste.Known generic color pastes and printing media for producing the same generally have an intense odor and tend to form a skin if an alkyd resin is present.The invention overcomes these disadvantages by the solvent system of the printing medium of the color paste containing substantially at least 50 to 100% by weight, preferably above 70% by weight, of one or more isoparaffins and from 0 to 50% by weight, preferably from 0 to 30% by weight, of one or more solvating plasticisers. Skin formation is prevented by the presence of an aldoxime or ketoxime containing 3 to 6 carbon atoms or an anti-oxidant for polymer systems.
Abstract: A water base erasable ink composition which comprises:(a) water as a solvent in amounts of 50-90% by weight;(b) a coloring agent dispersed or dissolved in water in amounts of 1-30% by weight;(c) an aqueous emulsion of at least one nonvolatile or only slightly volatile compound which is liquid at room temperatures and is selected from the group consisting of aliphatic carboxylic acid esters, higher hydrocarbons and higher alcohols in dry amounts of 1-20% by weight; and(d) a water soluble resin or a water-solubilized resin which is film forming at room temperatures in amounts of 0.1-15% by weight. The water soluble resin or water-solubilized resin may be displaced by an aqueous emulsion or a hydrosol of water insoluble resins.
Abstract: A grease composition for use as a cable filling material which contains about 25 to 75 parts by weight of castor oil or a ricinoleate polyol, about 13 to 71 parts by weight of a hydroxy-terminated polymer of polymerized castor oil or the reaction product of a polyisocyanate compound and castor oil or a ricinoleate polyol, and about 4 to 12 parts by weight of colloidal particles such as silica, clay or mixtures thereof. Optionally, an antioxidant component can be added to impart high temperature resistance, a bleed inhibitor, typically of a rubber component, can be added to improve bleed resistance, a water blocking agent of a superabsorbent compound can be added to reduce water transmission, microspheres can be added to reduce the weight of the formulation, and/or conventional additives such as fungicides, bacteriocides etc. can be included.
Abstract: A water soluble chemical composition for use as a soil stabilizer, conditer and structuring agent includes a dispersing agent such as a polyanionic sulfonated urea-melamine formaldehyde condensate, an aggregating agent such as a non-ionic water soluble urea-formaldehyde condensate having relative weight average molecular weights between 400 to 10,000 and polydispersity between 2.5 to 10, and a basic salt like di-sodium tetra borate and/or a neutral salt like sodium chloride and a nitrogen potassium or phosphorous containing compound such as potassium nitrate, phosphoric acid, potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate and the like, wherein the ratio of urea-formaldehyde to sulfonated urea-melamine-formaldehyde is between 0.2:1 to 2.0:1 and the final solid contents of this composition is between 1-15%. These compositions are then sprayed on top of sand or soil with conventional equipment and will impart significant improvements in their mechanical properties and their erosion resistance to water and wind.

Abstract: An aqueous dispersion of small particles of a phenol/formaldehyde novolac resin, referred to as a dispersed novolac resin, useful for example as a binder in preparing glass fiber insulation. The dispersed novolac resin is produced by preparing a molten novolac resin, cooling, adding water and optionally a surfactant and then adding a protective colloid. Additional water is added to provide the desired dispersion.
Abstract: An ink jet ink especially for printing on to plain paper comprises a suspension in (a) non aqueous solvent of (b) a disperse phase comprising: (i)) a water-insoluble dyestuff which is insoluble in said solvent at the ink jet operating temperature and below; (ii) a water insoluble resinous dispersant for the dyestuff which in the amount used is capable of forming a solution in the said solvent at the ink jet operating temperature, (iii) a polymer binder to hold the dyestuff on the surface of the paper.
Abstract: Mixtures of isomeric decyl alcohols obtained by oligomerization of propylene in the presence of deactivated zeolites as catalysts, followed by separation of the nine carbon olefins from the oligomer mixture, then hydroformylation of the 9 carbon olefins to 10 carbon aldehydes, and hydrogenation of the aldehydes to the corresponding alcohols. The mixtures, when esterified with phthalic acid, or anhydride, provide a mixture of isomeric di-decyl phthalates that can be used as plasticizers.

Abstract: A binder composition of a phenolic novolac resin and a (lower) alkoxylated triazine-formaldehyde resin curing agent is disclosed. The triazine resins have sufficient carbon atoms in the alkoxy groups so as to provide a curing agent having a water solubility of less than 15%. The binder cures at high temperatures so as to provide improved flow and prolonged workability to the composition. The compositions are useful in refractory applications having a need for high temperature curing agents such as for maintenance and repair within refractory vessels by gunning/spraying, manufacture of electrodes by the Soderberg method, and for use in blast furnace tap holes.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of composition board, particleboard, fiberboard, waferboard and oriented strandboard as well as new and useful products thereof are provided for by the separation of one portion of the solid constituents of the composition board and the separate blending of that portion with adhesive before combining and mixing that portion with the remaining solid constituents of the composition board product. The method and product is particularly adapted to the use of fines as the one portion of the solid component of composition board and utilizing the precoated fines as an adhesive carrier in the final step of mixing or blending of the fines with the remaining composition board components.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a friction material comprising a silicone resin, a phenolic resin, and, in certain embodiments, silicon nitride particles, incorporated into an aqueous paper formulation which is then formed into a friction material. The friction material is prepared by mixing the silicone resin, the phenolic resin (and, in certain embodiments, silicon nitride particles) into a raw paper formulation, forming a porous friction material, and heating the friction material to cure the phenolic resin and silicone resin.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for dispersing a pigment to obtain a pigment dispersion. The method involves dispersing 100 parts by weight of a pigment, 0.1 to 30 parts by weight of a specific pigment dispersing agent and 5 to 300 parts by weight of a water-based resin in 100 to 2,000 parts by weight of an aqueous medium having a water-soluble organic solvent concentration of 4 to 15% by weight. Pigments are obtained which are suitable for the production of water-based coating compositions or water-based inks excellent in fluidity, storage stability, gloss of a coating, sharpness and tinting strength.

Abstract: Stable emulsions based on unsaturated polyetherester resins are disclosed. The emulsions have high stability compared with conventional emulsions that are based on unsaturated polyester resins. The invention includes base-stabilized emulsions, as well as emulsions containing fillers or functional additives. The emulsions, which are storage stable for weeks or months, are useful for making water-extended polyetherester thermosets having excellent physical properties, even at high water contents.
