  • Patent number: 4808006
Abstract: The device, placed inside of the cartridge, container, tube, etc., makes it possible to maintain two different substances in chambers (6, 7) separate until the moment of use and then makes possible their mixing, and distribution of the mixture from a closeable (3) output opening (2) of cartridge, tube or container (1). The device comprises a membrane (4) easy to perforate or break (10) fastened to a fluidtight peripheral ring (4'). A perforated (13) disk (14) is provided with points (8) or the like for perforating or breaking (10) of membrane (4) at the moment of use. The disk is driven like a piston, by sliding (arrow 12) and/or rotation (arrow 17) of a rod (5) coming in a tight manner from container (1) to allow, by alternating movements, the intimate mixing of the two substances.

  • Patent number: 4805394
Abstract: Method and apparatus for false twisting a yarn. The apparatus includes false twisting endless belts arranged to intersect each other at a nip point, a pivotally mounted arm having a yarn guide on one end thereof, a pivotally mounted bracket and adjustable cam means for maintaining the arm in separate adjusted positions wherein yarn guided by the yarn guide passes directly through the nip point of the endless belts to provide a predetermined number of false twists to the yarn and wherein the yarn is preliminarily false twisted with a twist number less than the predetermined twist number during initiation of false twisting. The method of the invention includes the steps moving the arm into a position wherein the yarn is engaged with the false twisting endless belts but not at the nip point or intersection thereof to impart initial or preliminary false twisting to the yarn and subsequently positioning the arm so that yarn guided thereby is passed through the nip point between the false twisting endless belts.

  • Patent number: 4803909
Abstract: An apparatus automatically braids a plurality of rope forming strands onto a center core member in a braiding pattern that causes the resulting rope to have a generally square shaped cross section. The braiding strands are fed to a braiding point on the center core member from a plurality of eight strand feed assemblies which are transported on a mechanism in two distinct but crossing orbits that encircle the center core member. The constituent strands are themselves formed by prebraided or pretwisted substrands or filaments to cause the resulting rope to exhibit pronounced ribs along the corners of the square cross section for a secure hand-to-rope grip.

  • Patent number: 4802398
Abstract: A braided mechanical compression packing including relatively low and high-strength yarns is provided with greater mechanical strength along a given diagonal direction to provide a reinforced corner by providing the higher strength yarn along only one diagonal track of the braider. This reduces extrusion of the packing from the confines of the stuffing box in which it has been sequentially installed; produces a packing with rectilinear non-symmetry having directionally different friction, for instance, to facilitate gravity return of a hydraulic ram; and lowers operating friction by reducing the overall amount of high-strength yarn in the packing braid.

  • Patent number: 4802331
Abstract: A glass fiber bulk strand roving that is made up of a multiplicity of strands, each of which is made up of a plurality of individual fibers, for example, 200 of such fibers. Each strand of the roving has a multiplicity of rather long, axially extending loops, for example, axially extending loops with a calculated length of at least 6 inches, and a multiplicity of shorter, unbroken, cross-axially extending loops that are formed in the axially extending loops of such strands. The axially extending loops and the cross-axially extending loops interengage and intertwine with one another to form a composite entangled structure. The roving of the present invention is made by a process that uses a finger wheel to form axially extending loops in strands and a spinner downstream of the finger wheel.

  • Patent number: 4799417
Abstract: Braided line is manufactured by drawing off filaments (3) from a carousel of bobbins (1) which are caused to follow interweaving paths about a common axis. The line can be tapered by cutting selected filaments at intervals and continuing the braiding with a progressively reduced manner. Each cut off filament (14) leading from the braid point (8) is kept co-axially aligned by the air flow into a suction tube (6) within the carousel while the remaining filaments (3) are braided around it. • Patent number: 4798452
Abstract: An autoclavable laser beam manipulator, made of non-corrosive materials forming its elements which in turn contribute to a novel construction for this instrument that is used with endoscopes of all kinds. Aircraft grade aluminum forms elements such as housing and piston. Laser grade uncoated molybdenum forms the mirrored element mounted on the piston and disposed within a chamber for the housing. Glass-filled DELRON material forms a member which contributes to the adjustment of location and position of the mirrored element to change the direction of laser beam egress from the device, thus controlling such direction.
