  • Patent number: 9007943
Abstract: Methods and structure for reduced layout congestion in a switching device integrated circuit. A switching device such as a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) expander comprises a switching circuit to couple any of a plurality (“N”) of physical links of the switching device with any other physical link of the switching device. The switching circuit comprises a first stage circuit adapted to couple any of the N physical links with a selected one of N/2 communication paths of the switching circuit and comprises a second stage circuit adapted to couple any of the N/2 communication paths with any of the N physical links. Since only N/2 communication paths may be active at any time in such a switching device, a control unit of the switching device tracks which of the N/2 communication paths are presently in use or unused so that an unused path may be selected for a new connection.

  • Patent number: 8996659
Abstract: The solution of the present application provides many types and forms of resources, such as products or services, to an environment of heterogeneous devices. An agent and centralized service may communicate to deliver an optimum package of resources to a device. Each device may include an agent that collects information important to determining the appropriate resources for the device and understanding the environment the devices are contributing to. The information may be stored and analyzed in a cross device knowledge base, and the knowledge base may be consulted to determine resources appropriate for devices. The agent and centralized service may engage in pro-active alerting and provisioning of services, based on any collected information, to minimize the burden of resource procurement on the customer. After delivery of resources, the agent and centralized service may also perform updating, repairing, and healing functions for the resources.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a switch. The switch includes a port that couples to a server hosting a number of virtual machines. The switch also includes a set of virtual port grouping information and a virtual port grouping mechanism. During operation, the virtual port grouping mechanism determines whether a frame is traveling from a virtual port group to the same virtual port group. If the frame is not traveling to the same virtual port group, the virtual port grouping mechanism prevents the frame from being forwarded.

  • Patent number: 8976790
Abstract: A method comprises transmitting a plurality of copies of a message from each of a first transmission node and a second transmission node, each copy having a respective identification and forwarding each of the plurality of copies of the message among other nodes in the network based, at least in part, on the respective identification of each copy such that each copy of the message traverses a predetermined communication path among the other nodes. • Patent number: 8976713
Abstract: There are provided a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving signals in the same frequency band at the same time. A signal is received using a dual polarization antenna, the main axis of the polarization of the reception signal is predicted by performing adaptive polarization tracking, and polarization filtering is performed in order to remove interference. A signal is transmitted through a polarization completely orthogonal to the tracked polarization. In accordance with the present invention, in a wireless communication system, signals can be transmitted and received in the same frequency band at the same time.

  • Patent number: 8971204
Abstract: A wireless communication network having received priority access requests on an access channel issues an implicit reject response on a grant channel, such as a flag or other value embedded in an explicit access grant or explicit access reject response. The implicit reject response applies to some or all outstanding low-priority access requests. At the expiration of a terminal's grant channel monitoring window, if it has detected an applicable implicit reject response but not an explicit response, the terminal will refrain from transmitting another access request for a predetermined or configurable duration. The implicit reject response may comprise a flag, or a value that implicitly rejects only a fraction of the outstanding low-priority access requests. The implicit reject response may comprise a duration that the terminal must wait prior to transmitting another access request, and may direct the terminal to directly monitor the grant channel without transmitting a subsequent access request.

  • Patent number: 8964545
Abstract: The invention relates to communication between mobile nodes and/or node arrangements in wireless communication networks. In particular, the invention relates to a method in a radio access arrangement for improving the balance between the capacity allocated to initial access for network entry and the capacity allocated to payloads in the radio access arrangement. The radio access arrangement is configured to operatively communicate with a plurality of mobile nodes via an air interface. First, an initial access capacity is set to a value (S2), and then a current initial access load is obtained (S3). The next step is to increase (S7) the initial access capacity provided by the radio access arrangement (212, 312) if the current initial access load exceeds a predetermined upper limit (S4).
