  • Patent number: 5996971
Abstract: A portable apparatus for pulling well pipe upwardly through a well includes a well pipe hauling head which incorporates two opposed, inwardly tapering discs which are adapted to frictionally engage well pipe therein by only a quarter-turn engagement with the pipe. This allows for easy manual engagement and disengagement of the well pipe with the hauling head. The hauler head is mounted with suitable mounting apparatus permitting the hauler head to be freely rotatable in a supported position adjacent a well. The apparatus may be provided with a reduction gear box so that it may be actuated by a portable power drill.

  • Patent number: 5984279
Abstract: Apparatus for coupling an elongate support and a fence, such as a partition between cubicles in a stall. Cubicle partitions are first hung from couplings which have been fixed to a horizontal member of an elongate support. The partitions are hung on the support one end at a time, allowing for a single person to perform this operation even with relatively heavy partitions. After hanging the ends of the partition, the partition can be adjusted prior to finally securing the ends of the partition to the support.

  • Patent number: 5984219
Abstract: In a spinning reel for fishing, a fishline guide roller is rotatably supported on a bail support arm pivotably mounted on a rotor. The guide roller has a flattened shape such that a ratio of an axial length of the roller relative to a diameter thereof falls within 0.10-0.40. Further, the guide roller is formed with a narrow fishline guide groove so that a ratio of an axial length of the fishline guide groove relative to an axial length of the roller falls within 0.05-0.35. It is possible to make a fishline guide roller small in weight and size and to restrict axial motion of a fishline along the guide roller which, among other advantages, reduces line twist in the fishline.

  • Patent number: 5984276
Abstract: A cable retraction speed limiter has a body which is designed to be mounted on the housing of a hoist and a spool which is rotatably supported by the body. A flexible extension member is disposed about the spool so that it can be extended from and retracted onto the spool by rotation of the spool. The end of the flexible extension member is designed to be attached to an air pressure responsive member inside of the air balancing hoist. The cable retraction speed limiter also includes a spool lock that stops rotation of the spool when the rotational speed of the spool exceeds the rotational speed limit, thereby limiting the hoist cable retraction speed.

  • Patent number: 5957432
Abstract: A safety apparatus is capable of tensioning a horizontal lifeline while providing an adjustable shock absorber and a gauge or indicator for indicating the amount of tension on the lifeline. A housing is adapted to be secured to an anchor point through an anchoring line. The free end of a horizontal lifeline passes over a pulley within the housing and around a number of rollers which are adapted to maintain the lifeline in secure contact with the pulley. A lever is utilized to rotate the pulley in order to tension the lifeline. The lever, however, is interconnected to the pulley through an adjustable disk brake which can be preset to a desired force. When the tension on the lifeline reaches its desired level, the brake slips and the lever can freely rotate. A second series of disk brakes connected to the pulley function as a shock absorber.

  • Patent number: 5950991
Abstract: An improved force transmitting apparatus for transmitting force between first and second members includes a plurality of force transmitting assemblies. The force transmitting assemblies are operable between engaged conditions in which the first force transmitting apparatus is effective to transmit force and disengaged conditions in which the force transmitting apparatus is ineffective to transmit force. A controller operates the force transmitting assemblies between the disengaged and engaged conditions as a function of a load applied to the apparatus. The improved force transmitting apparatus is useful as a brake in a drilling system having a draw string connectable with pipe. The force transmitting assemblies are connected with a drum of a winch connected to the draw string.

  • Patent number: 5947404
Abstract: A stator winding apparatus is disclosed for use in the manufacture of stators having radially-extending, outwardly-open, coil-receiving slots. Lead wire guide assemblies are provided for guiding lead wires into cavities in individual terminal members mounted on the stator core. In addition, a wire-retaining member is provided to confine a lead wire between the end face of the stator core and the wire retaining member to thereby prevent the lead wire from being inadvertently looped around a portion of the wire-guide tooling provided to guide wire into the stator core slots. Related methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5944273
Abstract: A uniformly wound parent roll of soft, high bulk tissue has greater uniformity in sheet basis weight, machine direction stretch and bulk when compared to parent rolls wound by conventional winding methods. The method involves carrying the tissue sheet on a relatively air impermeable transfer belt which traverses an unsupported span between two winding drums. The sheet is transferred from the transfer belt to the parent roll as the parent roll is urged against the sheet/transfer belt at a point within the unsupported span. The resulting deflection of the transfer belt is detected and, in response, the reel spool position is controllably changed to maintain the deflection within predetermined limits. The tension of the sheet is controlled by the predetermined differential speed between the outer most surface of the parent roll and the transfer belt.

  • Patent number: 5944274
Abstract: A fishline guide mechanism for a spinning reel, in which a fishline is guided within a relatively narrow groove formed in a rotatable guide roller which may be supported on a bail support member so as to be tiltable about its rotational center depending on a direction of force applied to the fishline. The groove is sized to prevent the fishline from rolling and sliding in the lateral direction (along the roller axis) when the fishline is guided by the roller, to thereby reduce twisting and tangling of the fishline.

  • Patent number: 5934588
Abstract: A fishing reel of the multiplier type has a frame, a line spool rotatably mounted in the frame, a brake disk coaxial with the line spool and non-rotatably but axially displaceably arranged in the frame, and a brake unit connected to the line spool and adapted, in cooperation with the brake disk, to brake spool rotation. The brake unit has brake arms with a first end and a second end. The brake arms support at their first end a brake element and are at their second end connected to the holder in a manner pivotable about a pivot axis perpendicular to the line spool axis, so as to be pivoted between an off-position and a braking position, in which the brake elements engage the brake disk. The first end of each brake arm is positioned radially inside its second end. Each brake arm extends in a direction which is so offset from a radial direction in respect of the line spool axis that its first end is positioned in the direction of rotation of the line spool seen behind its second end.
