  • Patent number: 7406327
Abstract: A system adapts power for minimizing the total amount of transmitted power in a wireless communications network. A transmit station transmits a communications signal requesting a response from receiving mobile stations. A plurality of the mobile stations receives the communications signal and each evaluates the signal reception, such as the signal-to-noise ratio or transmitted power. Each mobile station responds by transmitting a communications signal back to the transmit station in a specific time slot as a function of the signal reception to allow the transmit station to adapt its power based on the time slot of the communications signals received from respective mobile stations. This minimizes the total amount of power transmitted by the wireless communications network.

  • Patent number: 7398050
Abstract: A method of communicating data in a satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) system includes transmitting two radio frequency digital signals to a SDAR receiver within a motor vehicle. The two signals include substantially identical information. Each signal includes universal data, and also group-specific data that may or may not be relevant to the particular receiver. The group-specific data is located in a predetermined time location within the signals. This method includes combining the group-specific data from one of the two signals with group-specific data from the other signal to create a group-specific output signal. Similarly, the universal data from one of the two signals is combined with universal data from the other signal to create a universal output signal.

  • Patent number: 7386330
Abstract: A support shaft is received in a socket for relative rotation. A first hollow space penetrates through the support shaft. A first hollow member extends in a first direction from the tip end of the support shaft. The first hollow member defines a second hollow space extending in the first direction. The second hollow space receives a rotation shaft. A second hollow member extends in a second direction opposite to the first direction from the tip end of the support shaft. The second hollow member defines a third hollow space extending in the second direction from the tip end of the first hollow space. The electronic apparatus allows penetration of the wire through the first and third hollow spaces. No additional space is required around the second hollow member for locating the wire. The electronic apparatus is thus allowed to enjoy a reduced size or volume.

  • Patent number: 7181201
Abstract: A method and system are provided for routing a call to a called party's landline or wireless communication unit based on the availability of the wireless communication unit. A call placed to a called party's landline communication unit is routed to the called party's wireless communication unit if the wireless communication unit is determined available, otherwise, the call is routed to the called party's landline communication unit. Unlike past attempts to facilitate communication with a called party having wireless and landline communication units, these preferred embodiments operate automatically (without called party intervention) before a call is terminated at the landline communication unit and are responsive to the availability of the called party's wireless communication unit. Further, there preferred embodiments do not rely on complex, pre-determined hunting sequences or expensive adjunct customer premises equipment.

  • Patent number: 7043254
Abstract: Automated adjustment of system organization parameters in a wireless communication system is provided by determining the parameter settings using a characterization of signal propagation of the system's coverage area. This characterization is based on measurements of path loss-related characteristics by the system's base stations and wireless terminals. An exemplary path loss-related characteristic is path loss as determined by measuring received signal strength (RSS) at wireless terminals based on signals transmitted at known powers by a plurality of the system's base stations. It is possible for the wireless terminals to take measurement while operating in the coverage area, whether idle or during communication with the system, and for such terminals to be associated with the system's subscribers. A resulting characterization of signal propagation in the coverage area based on the measured path loss-related characteristic can then be used to determine a variety of parameter settings.

  • Patent number: 7043264
Abstract: A robust data delivery system between a server and a mobile client uses the Short Message Service (SMS) and General Packet Radio System (GPRS) services. A user and/or messaging provider set preferences on the mobile client for service coverage estimation that balances SMS and GPRS service coverage estimations for the mobile client, and/or service selection preferences that are expressed using a balance of cost of service and reliability of service. The mobile client receives a message from the server, sent using either the SMS or GPRS services. The mobile client checks the status of its SMS and GPRS signals. The mobile client weighs preference settings and the SMS and GPRS signal statuses to decide whether to answer the server using SMS or GPRS. If GPRS is selected, then the mobile client answers using GPRS; if SMS is selected, then the mobile answers using SMS.
