  • Patent number: 7620412
Abstract: A system and method for reducing call establishment delay in wireless network is provided, in which a network node establishes a call to a wireless terminal controlled by an AP via a server. The wireless terminal notifies the server of its listen interval. In the power saving mode, the wireless terminal wakes up every listen interval and listen the beacon to check whether any buffered packet for it. When the wireless terminal learns from the beacon that there are packets waiting, it communicates with the access point to retrieve them. The server records a listen time at which the wireless terminal will wake up and listen to the AP based on the listen interval. When a network node calls the wireless terminal, the server buffers the request for a time interval based on the listen time, and then sends the request to the wireless terminal.

  • Patent number: 7620417
Abstract: A communication terminal apparatus that can perform an appropriate system operation at the network side and also can avoid a reduction in throughput and a reduction in system efficiency. In this apparatus, a compressed mode calculating part (124) determines, based on compressed information and slot format information, a slot that is a gap in a frame of a compressed mode. A transmission power control part (125) establishes a transmission power obtained by increasing, by &Dgr; Pilot, the transmission power as designated and set by a TPC command for the slots other than the gap in the frame of the compressed mode. A DPCCH transmission power reporting part (127) outputs, to a channel encoding part (128), a report value indicative of the transmission power obtained by removing the effect of &Dgr; Pilot from the transmission power established by the transmission power control part (125).

  • Patent number: 7613476
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed whereby noise is introduced at one or more base stations in non-HSDPA cells into the uplink signal from one or more user devices. As a result, the apparent quality of the uplink channel in those cells will appear to be lower than the actual quality of that channel. The power control commands issued from the base station to the user device will, therefore, reflect this lower estimated channel quality and, as a result, the user device will follow power control commands from the base station in the HSDPA cell. Therefore, the transmit power of the user device will remain adequate to communicate with the base station in the HSDPA cell and, as a result, the UL and DL in the HSDPA cell will remain synchronized.

  • Patent number: 7590078
Abstract: Backward compatibility may require the use of fields or other indicators that are interpreted by new nodes or stations in a system in a manner different from the way legacy nodes interpret those same fields. In some circumstances, these indicators may be used to “spoof” legacy nodes to behave in certain ways, to allow a next generation protocol to be performed without interference from those legacy nodes. While this practice is may increase communication effectiveness, spoofing may lead to inefficient operation of legacy nodes. Legacy nodes may detect spoofing, including detecting field settings in a legacy portion of a transmitted message, or detecting phase shifts in a message. Once spoofing is detected, a variety of steps may be taken, including determining the duration of the next generation message, entering a low power state for the duration, communicating on alternate channels for the duration, modifying legacy backoff procedures, and others.

  • Patent number: 7577453
Abstract: A technique for wireless load balancing involves providing a wireless infrastructure that creates a target band option and helps push clients toward that band. An example of a method according to the technique involves, by way of example but not limitation, responding only to probe requests on a first band when a client is detected on the first band and a second band. For example, using the techniques described herein, a platform that is both 802.11a and 802.11b/g compliant may attempt to connect preferentially to the 802.11b/g band of a wireless network, and be migrated toward the 802.11a band instead.
