Abstract: A poly(.alpha.-aminoacetamide) ("poly(AAMID)" for brevity) main chain having terminal polysubstituted piperidinyl chain ends are novel compounds which have highly desirable UV-light stabilizing (UV-S) activity coupled with unexpectedly good thermal stability. These compounds, referred to as "piperidinyl-chain ended poly(AAMID)s", are oligomers which contain from 2 to about 18 AAMID repeating units, for use in polymer recipes to formulate a stabilized polymeric composition comprising a UV-light-degradable organic polymer containing an effective amount of the poly(AAMID) sufficient to stabilize the polymer. A poly(AAMID) is especially effective in a polyolefin in which there is from about 0.1 percent by weight (% by wt), to about 5% by wt of the oligomer, and is also effective in a wide variety of pastel colored and/or transparent commercially significant polymers.

Abstract: Included are halogenated phosphate-phosphites and their acid halides and acids. The halogenated phosphate-phosphites can be prepared by a process comprising serially contacting(A) a phosphorus trihalide with a triol;(B) a halogenating agent; and(C) an oxirane or an alcohol, under conditions sufficient to prepare the halogenated phosphate-phosphite. Steps (A) and (B) can prepare their acid halides. Use of water in step (C) can prepare their acids. For example, 3-((bis(2-chloroethoxy)phosphino)oxy)(2-bromomethyl-2-methylpropyl, 2-bromoethyl, 2-chloroethyl)-phosphorate can be prepared from 2-methyl-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol; phosphorus trichloride; bromine; and ethylene oxide. Also included is use of the compounds as a hydraulic fluid or flame retardant. For example, polyurethanes can be rendered less flammable with the halogenated phosphate-phosphite flame retardant.

Abstract: Stabilizer systems containing at least two Ni-containing light-stabilizers in which nickel (which, in class 2, optionally contains an additional ligand) forms a complex compound with a compound selected from the group consisting of the classes:1. 2-hydroxy-4-alkoxybenzophenones2. 2,2'-thiobis[4-alkylphenols]3. 3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxybenzoic acid monoalkyl esters4. 3,5-dialkyl-4-hydroxybenzylphosphonic acid monoalkyl esters5. 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-acyl-5-hydroxypyrazole,in which the radicals generally contained are appropriately substituted. After being incorporated into the corresponding polyolefins, these stabilizer systems have a synergistic effect which prevents or at least greatly retards decomposition initiated by light and/or oxygen.
Abstract: Stabilized acetal polymer molding compositions are formed by first preparing an intimate dispersion of an amidine stabilizer in a carrier resin comprising an ionic polymer, i.e. an "ionomer", and compounding the dispersion with the acetal polymer. The resulting composition is found in many cases to have improved stability over compositions prepared by adding the amidine compound in an undispersed form.
