Abstract: Stabilizers for synthetic polymer compositions are provided which are poly(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidyl amino)-1,3,5-triazines having the formula: ##STR1## in which: R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, hydroxyalkyl and alkoxy having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; acyl having from the one to about twelve carbon atoms; and oxyl;X and Y are each selected from the group consisting of ##STR2## wherein: R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, hydroxylalkyl and alkylenealkoxy having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; cycloalkyl having from three to about twelve carbon atoms; and aryl having from six to about eighteen carbon atoms;R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen; alkyl having from one to about twelve carbon atoms; cycloalkyl having from three to about twelve carbon atoms; and aryl having from six to about eighteen carbon atoms; and R.sub.2 and R.sub.
Abstract: Compounds of the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.5 are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 -cycloalkyl or a group of the formula (II), ##STR2## R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 -alkylene, R is a group of the formula (III) ##STR3## wherein R.sub.6 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.8 -dialkylamino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy, a 5-membered to 7-membered heterocyclic group containing a nitrogen atom which is attached to the triazine residue or a group of the formula (IV), ##STR4## R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are independently C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 -alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 -cycloalkyl, benzyl or a group of the formula (II), subject to the proviso that both, R.sub.1 and R.sub.5 are different from hydrogen, if R is a group ##STR5## are useful as light stabilizers, heat stabilizers and/or oxidation stabilizers for organic materials, in particular synthetic polymers.
Abstract: Acid-curable thermoset enamel compositions coming in contact with copper or copper-containing alloys are discolored and degrade more rapidly due to leaching of copper into the compositions. The presence of small amounts of benzotriazole or tolutriazole effectively prevents the discoloration and concomitantly retards degradation.
Abstract: Flame retardant mixtures of a polyphenylene ether resin, an alkenyl aromatic elastomer, an organic phosphate flame retardant agent and a crosslinking agent are described. They are curable by heating or by exposure to high energy radiation. Articles such as electrical wires and cables comprising insulation made of the composition, and a method of their production, are also disclosed.

The compounds of the formula I are readily obtainable, and are particularly valuable as UV absorbers by virtue of their good solubility in copolymerisable monomers.
Abstract: Novel tetraglycidates have the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, perfluoroalkyl, or cycloalkylidene of 5 to 7 carbon atoms. Epoxy resin systems exhibiting good tensile properties and moisture sensitivity can be made by copolymerizing the tetraglycidates with a polyamine curing agent. Prepregs can be made by combining the epoxy resin systems with a fiber reinforcement. The epoxy resin system may include a co-epoxide.
Abstract: Tetramethylpiperidyl terminated triazine oligomeric esters and amides having a plurality of tetramethyl piperidyl moieties are useful as polymer additives to impart resistance to degradation when exposed to actinic radiation.
Abstract: Disclosed is a high energy radiation resistant, polypropylene composition. It consists essentially of substantially crystalline normally solid polypropylene having a narrow molecular weight distribution, and, dispersed therein at a concentration effective to increase substantially the high energy radiation resistance of the polypropylene, a synergistic mixture of:(1) a hindered amine component,(2) a hindered phenolic component, and(3) a phosphorous containing component,the weight ratios of component (1) to component (2) to component (3) being about 1:(0.1-2):(0.1-2).Also disclosed are radiation sterilized articles in which at least part of the material of construction comprises the polypropylene composition.

Abstract: Fireproofed thermoplastic molding materials which contain red phosphorus as a flame-proofing agent are obtainable by mixing(A) from 5 to 95% by weight of a polyamide or of a polyester or of a mixture of these,(B) from 5 to 95% by weight of an elastomer dispersion containing, as essential components,(b.sub.1) from 5 to 75% by weight of an elastomer prepared by emulsion polymerization,(b.sub.2) from 10 to 70% by weight of red phosphorus, p2 (b.sub.3) from 10 to 80% by weight of water and(b.sub.4) from 0.1 to 5% by weight of dispersant, and(C) from 0 to 60% by weight of fibrous or particulate fillers or a mixture of these,the total content of red phosphorus in the molding material being from 3 to 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the molding material, and the elastomer composition being introduced into a melt of the polyamide or of the polyester or of a mixture of these.

Abstract: The invention relates to thermoplastic polycarbonate molding compositions comprising a polycarbonate resin and a stabilizing agent conforming to ##STR1## where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently are ##STR2## R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom, a branched or linear C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 cycloalkyl, and R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 independently are a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, x is an integer of about 1 to 70,y is an integer of about 0 to 70,R.sub.4 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkyl or cycloalkyl, C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 aryl or C.sub.7 -C.sub.20 alkylaryl or cycloalkylaryl. The agent is homogenically distributed throughout the resin and is present in an amount sufficient to improve the gamma radiation resistance of the composition.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process for enhancing the properties of alkylene(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)-bis-(tetrabromophthalimide) or bis-(tetrabromophthalimide) products produced by the bromination, respectively, of alkylene(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)-bis-(phthalimide) or bis-(phthalimide) with a brominating agent in the presence of oleum, the process comprising curing the alkylene(C.sub.1 -C.sub.6)bis-(tetrabromophthalimide) or bis-(tetrabromophthalimide) products at a temperature above about 150.degree. C. and below the melting point of the tetrabromophthalimide being cured for a period of from about 36 hours to about 5 hours. This enhanced product and its use in molding and extrusion compositions and in molded and extruded articles is also disclosed.
