  • Patent number: 7327748
Abstract: A high speed switching device including an aggregator, a plurality of intermediate ports, and ingress packet processing resources, is disclosed. The aggregator includes an external switch port operatively coupled to a transport medium, and a demultiplexer that divides an ingress data stream into a plurality of intermediate streams. The plurality of intermediate ports transmit the intermediate streams to ingress packet processing resources. The ingress packet processing resource may include one or more classification devices for parsing, switching or routing, and queueing packets of the ingress stream, prior to transmission to a switching fabric. The switching device optionally includes an egress processor for multiplexing egress data from the switching fabric. Intermediate port traffic may be dynamically modified to minimize load imbalance present in an ingress switching device and or egress switching device.

  • Patent number: 7324541
Abstract: In general, in one aspect, a switching device is described that includes a segmentation unit to receive packets and divide packets having a length greater than a maximum segment length into multiple segments. A plurality of queues associated with a source and a destination stores the segments. A request generator generates requests that include external factors including amount of data contained in the queue and at least some subset of priority and age. A scheduler receives the requests and assigns the requests an internal priority based on the external factors. The scheduler processes the requests for the queues by internal priority in order to generate grants. A framer, responsive to the scheduler, aggregates a plurality of segments for the queues that received a grant to form a frame and to transmit the frame to an associated destination. The frame may contain segments associated with different packets.

  • Patent number: 7324498
Abstract: An apparatus and method for reordering traffic flow templates (TFTs) in a mobile communication system. The apparatus and method include a primary GPRS tunneling protocol (GTP) tunnel for transmitting and receiving packet data to and from a mobile station and one or more secondary GTP tunnels having the same mobile station address as the primary GTP tunnel and each being divided into different TFTs. The TFTs each include different packet filter contents so that the secondary GTP tunnels are separated through TFT packet filtering. A controller is adapted to sequentially perform TFT packet filtering on input packet data for the TFTs, manage statistical data of packet data successfully TFT packet filtered according to the TFTs, and reorder an order of the TFTs by comparing the statistical data of the packet data successfully TFT packet filtered for the TFTs if a preset period expires.

  • Patent number: 7319679
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reducing the latency in a GPRS network, via which information is transmitted between a data requesting unit, i.e. a client (1), and a data-providing unit, i.e. a server (9), in the form of data packets. In order to transmit the data packets from the client (1) to the server (9), at least one first communication channel (UL-TBF) is opened and then closed. At least a second communication channel (DL-TBF) is then opened and closed for transmitting information from the server (9) to the client (1). A not insignificant latency is thus produced between the request for information and the receipt of information, which can be reduced, according to the invention, by opening the second communication channel (DL TBF) before closing the first communication channel (UL-TBF). A radio channel is thus provided for preventive purposes, for the feedback of the requested data.

  • Patent number: 7319694
Abstract: Dominated nodes A, B and C equip only with lower layers 1a, 2a and 3a, and upper layers for the lower layers are not equipped. Each of the lower layers 1a, 2a and 3a comprises a preset device, and managing information for managing a communication function of the lower layer is read from the preset device and set to a function device of the lower layer. The dominated nodes A, B and C can execute isochronous transmission without a dominating node equipped with an upper layer for managing the lower layers. The dominating node is not always necessary on an IEEE1394 bus.

  • Patent number: 7319688
Abstract: A method for mobile communication includes arranging a plurality of access points in a wireless local area network (WLAN) to communicate on a common frequency channel with a mobile station, and linking the access points together by cables in a wired local area network (LAN), so as to convey frames of data to and from the mobile station via the LAN. When one or more of the access points receive an uplink signal transmitted over the WLAN by the mobile station on the common frequency channel, the access points send messages over the LAN by interleaving the messages in one or more of the frames of the data, and arbitrate among themselves based on the messages so as to select one of the access points to respond to the uplink signal.

  • Patent number: 7317699
Abstract: A system for controlling configuration settings for mobile data communication devices and services includes a redirection server and a policy generation system. The redirection server detects a triggering event in a host system and in response to the triggering event continuously redirects data items from the host system to a wireless network. Each mobile data communication device receives data items from the wireless network and includes a device configuration stored in a memory location on the mobile data communication device. The device configuration of each mobile data communication device controls one or more functions of the mobile data communication device. The policy generation system receives a policy setting from a user interface and stores the policy setting in a user information record associated with a mobile data communication device.

  • Patent number: 7317735
Abstract: A method and system of the present invention includes the creation and transmission of a MAC header that includes a first MAC header portion and at least two scrambler recovery fields arranged on the two sides (before and after) of a header FEC portion. The invention includes determining whether a scrambler initialization field received at the physical layer was received in error, and if so, evaluating either one of the de-scrambled values of the two scrambler recovery fields in relation to a table to determine a pseudorandom sequence initialization value that corresponds to a given de-scrambled scrambler recovery field value. Once the corresponding pseudorandom sequence initialization value is determined, that value may be used to further de-scramble the data in the data frame to produce a correctly de-scrambled data frame.

  • Patent number: 7315510
Abstract: Recovery time upon the failure of a link or switching system in an asynchronous data network can be minimized if downstream data switches can provide upstream messages to upstream switching systems indicating to upstream switching systems that the downstream traffic arrived in tact and was properly handled. In one embodiment, the loss or failure of the upstream status message to an upstream switching system, causes an upstream switching system to reroute data traffic around a failed link or failed switch with a minimal amount of lost data.

  • Patent number: 7286533
Abstract: A bridge has a shared forwarding database and a plurality of ports. The bridge handles data associated with multiple virtual local area networks (VLANs). The shared forwarding database includes static entries for one or more devices which belong to multiple VLANs. Upon receiving data addressed to one of the one or more devices the bridge determines that the data should be source routed by retrieving the static entry from the shared forwarding database. The bridge then selects a bridge port to which the data should be forwarded on the basis of information in the data, such as a VLAN ID field.

Abstract: In an OFDM receiver the complex values of predetermined pilot sub-carriers are compared with expected values to determine pilot distortion values for those sub-carriers. The phases of the differences between successive values are determined, and then the rate at which these phases change with respect to sub-carrier frequency is determined. Data distortion estimates for other sub-carriers can be calculated by interpolation of the pilot distortion values such that the data distortion estimates have a phase which substantially complies with the determined rate.
