  • Patent number: 4566358
Abstract: A bar stock guide arrangement for screw machines having a rotatably mounted fitting which has a horizontal opening for loosely passing the bar stock and guide rollers in the fitting at circumferentially spaced locations around the bar stock. The guide rollers are on roller supports which are radially slidable in the fitting and have rack teeth on their opposite sides. Weights are slidable radially in the fitting between the successive roller supports, and these weights have rack teeth on their opposite sides. Pinion gears are removably mounted in the fitting to engage the rack teeth on the roller supports and the weights so that centrifugal force on each weight produces an inward force on the neighboring roller support. Springs bias the weights radially outward.

  • Patent number: 4566826
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a cutting insert is disclosed. A rotatable head includes at least one peripheral slot which has a generally flat bottom and a pair of parallel sides. The parallel sides of the slot are tilted relative to the bottom so that the bottom of the slot forms an acute corner with one side and an obtuse corner with the other side. An insert seat is provided which has a bottom and a back side which meet at an acute angle conformed to the acute corner of the slot. The seat has a front side with a recess to support the cutting insert in a general radial posture relative to the rotatable head. The seat is secured to the slot with the back side of the seat flush with the side of the slot forming the acute corner. The location of the bottom of the seat relative to the bottom of the slot is adjustable. A wedge is forced between the insert and the side of the slot forming the obtuse corner to confine the insert between the wedge and the seat.

  • Patent number: 4563925
Abstract: Multispindle-automatic turret lathe with a spindle support mounted for rotation about a central indexing axis on a headstock and in which are mounted several workspindles, and with a main driving motor for a drive shaft which is adapted to be drivingly coupled with that workspindle which at any given time occupies the working position.Since it is regular custom to provide such main driving motors with electronic control units which not only control acceleration and deceleration of the workspindle which happens to be driven at any given time but which also allow the latter being stopped precisely in a clearly predefined angular position, a separate drive for the spindle support may be dispensed with by coupling the spindle support with the main driving motor for its intermittent indexing rotation movement.

  • Patent number: 4557165
Abstract: A rod-supply arrangement is described, comprising a guide tube containing oil and mounted in a support and a feed rod movable axially in the guide tube and coupled to a feed drive, the forward end of the feed rod carrying a rotatable coupling element, and also with an oil-supply pipe and an oil-return pipe. In order to obtain such an arrangement which requires little space and has a substantially simplified charging of the guide tube with always a new rod of material, in connection with which the stocking of the rods of material is not restricted to a prescribed number of existing guide tubes, provision is made for the guide tube to consist of a guide channel formed in the support and coupled with at least one oil-supply pipe and of an upwardly swingable cover extending throughout the length of the guide channel, oil being supplied through the oil-supply pipe during the feeding of the material rod in the closed guide tube of the guide channel.

  • Patent number: 4557167
Abstract: An apparatus for trimming a scrap ring from a cylindrical container body and its method of operation. A cylindrical container body, closed at one end and provided with a flange member which extends substantially at right angles to the body at the opposite open end, has a scrap ring trimmed from the flange member. The container body is fed into one of a series of hemispherical pockets of a rotary turret and is then moved laterally thereto with the aid of a vacuum holder that engages the closed end. The open end of a container is presented to a main disk cutter that rotates about its axis continuously and which travels in alignment with one of the hemispherical pockets. A frusto-conical ram is mounted on the main disk cutter and is inserted into the open end of the container to insure its roundness. An auxiliary disk cutter, whose axis is substantially at right angles to the main disk cutter, is mounted on a reciprocable bar member along with a stripper plate.

  • Patent number: 4554811
Abstract: A crankpin rolling apparatus is provided wherein plural pairs of upper and lower arms are pivotably carried by respective hinge pins extending in parallel relation with the rotational axis of a workpiece support device. A pair of upper and lower roller holders each rotatably carrying burnishing rollers are respectively mounted on each pair of the upper and lower arms. When the plural pairs of upper and lower arms are closed by respective pressuring actuators, the pair of upper and lower roller holders arrest a corresponding one of crankpins of a crankshaft on the workpiece support means and pressure the burnishing rollers upon fillets formed on the corresponding one of crankpins. The hinge pins are respectively carried by a plurality of rocking members, which are independently pivotable about a support shaft held by a machine frame in parallel relation with the rotational axis of workpiece support device.
