  • Patent number: 4519279
Abstract: Work-rest for use primarily with machine tools, provided with a prehensile, selfcentering, automatic and double-acting equipment. This equipment is composed of a tern of rollers, whose centripetal simultaneous displacement, that assures the coaxiality of the workpiece, is realized by a pair of symmetrical double-acting grooves made on interchangeable lever arms whose angular movement is enslaved to the axial sliding of a central push rod double acting, grasping and expanding. The interchangeability of the arms of the double-acting prehensile equipment makes possible the use of only one work-rest body for a larger dimensional range of workpieces, both from the outside and from the inside with a considerable saving of operating cost.

  • Patent number: 4507024
Abstract: A cutting tool for improved material removal efficiency at relatively high feed rates is disclosed. In a preferred form of an indexable polygonal cutting insert, an edge land and chip contacting ramp surfaces in at least a top face of the insert are advantageously arranged for reduced cutting forces and friction, ample cutting edge strength and inducement of free chip flow. In order to overcome deleterious chip convergence and resultant high pressures in the vicinity of the nose radius of the cutting corner of the insert, a recessed control surface is positioned in each corner portion of the polygonal insert.

  • Patent number: 4502517
Abstract: A safety tool rest for a lathe having a rotating workpiece is disclosed. The tool rest includes a generally planar base which is attachable to the lathe. An elongate flange projects upwardly and outwardly from the base and has an upper edge which is disposed adjacent the rotating workpiece. A tool for cutting the workpiece rests on top of the upper edge of the flange. An elongate bar is attached to the base but is located above the base at a height higher than the upper edge. In this manner, the tool is inserted below the bar and over the upper edge for cutting the workpiece. The tool is prevented from being flipped about the upper edge during contact with the rotating workpiece by the bar. Preferably, the bar is vertically adjustable relative to the base to accommodate different sized tools. This adjustment is provided by two threaded bolts which pass through the bar and engage the base. A spring is provided around the bolts to urge the bar away from the base.

  • Patent number: 4497101
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for manufacturing a three-dimensional, shaped graphite electrode (3) utilizing a three-dimensional, shaped file (4), moved toward one another (filing stroke) while executing an orbital relative movement between the shaped file and the three-dimensional, shaped electrode blank until such time as the contour of the three-dimensional, shaped electrode corresponds, with tolerance, to a negative copy of the contour of the shaped file. During the filing process, graphite particles filed off by the shaped file are flushed out of the working gap (7) formed between the shaped file and the three-dimensional, shaped electrode with the aid of a flushing fluid.

  • Patent number: 4493232
Abstract: An adjustable mandrel for securing a portable lathe adjacent the end of a pipe to be prepared for welding includes a lathe support plate that is adjustable about a single miter axis relative to the body of the mandrel which is arranged to engage the I.D. of a pipe. The portable lathe is connectable to the support plate by means of a mandrel engaging fixture that enables the cutting plane of the lathe to be located adjacent the pipe end. The miter axis of the mandrel is always located so that it lies in a direction that is parallel to the cutting plane of the portable lathe. The miter angle can be set within a range of positions so that the pipe end can be cut at a precise miter angle in preparation for welding to another pipe section.
