  • Patent number: 4916854
Abstract: The spinner is formed of a thin film of a type and gauge that normally retains its shape but at the same time is flexible. The spinner has shrink points on opposite side edges of the rounded end portions which are offset from each other relative to the center of the body portion and which due to the distortion of the material at the shrink points form propeller-like, cupped end portions. In the method of forming the spinner, the blank is cut with the rounded end portions and narrowed body portion. The blank is formed into a propeller-like spinner with cupped blades and a propeller pitch by shrinking the film at points of the rounded end portions which are offset from each other and on opposite sides of the longitudinal center.

  • Patent number: 4914853
Abstract: A fish dehooking device is provided with a rigidly holdable T-shaped handle and a long rod with a smoothly-bent angled section at the opposite end for removing fishhooks from any depth within a fish. An optional enlarged spreader section of the rod is provided as a wedged base for removing the fishhooks and for preventing dislodged fishhooks being removed from puncturing intestinal sections or air bags that would lower the quality of the meat of the fish. The enlarged spreader section also allows fishhooks to be removed from the mouths of larger fish that have strong jaws and dangerous teeth. A method of using this device allows the holding and placing of hooked fish without contacting the fish or sharp projections on some types of fish.

  • Patent number: 4914852
Abstract: A tandem double offset fishhook includes first and second hooks, each having a shank, an offset bend curving concavely from one end of the shank and a point at the end of the bend. The shank of one of the first and second hooks is longer than the other shank with respect to the eye formed at one end of one of the shanks so as to space the points of the first and second shanks apart. The offset bends of the first and second hooks are disposed at equal inverted angles on opposite sides of a vertical plane through the first and second shanks to generate forces which cause the fishhook to rotate and spin as it is drawn through the water while being reeled in. In one embodiment, the first and second shanks are integrally formed from a single elongated wire, with the eye disposed between the ends of the shank at one end and the shanks being disposed side-by-side in parallel.

  • Patent number: 4910907
Abstract: A bait harness adapted to hold a bait in the form of a fish or fillet is provided for casting, trolling or jigging. The harness includes a clamp of highly resilient spring material bent to define a closed end with integral opposed sides converging to free ends biased to an abutting closed position for gripping the bait. In one embodiment, the clamp is provided with a pair of elongated arms, each fitted with a prong, pivotally mounted respectively at one end to respective free ends of the clamp to open the same when pressed into engagement with opposed sides thereof. This embodiment is used with an elongated skewer impaled lengthwise through the bait fish or fillet so as to extend from the extremities thereof and the bait is secured by mounting the clamp to the leading end of the skewer so that the free ends of the clamp when closed tightly grip the bait and when the arms are closed, the prongs penetrate the bait for additional gripping.

  • Patent number: 4908980
Abstract: This invention relates to the control of flying insects in and around homes, commercial establishments, farm buildings and the like. Specifically, the formulation, design and technique involved in the device allows the user to maintain an insect free environment and to dispense an insecticide capable of eliminating flying insects in a safe and effective manner. The use of a translucent shield that contains an insecticide that leeches to the surface through the heat of ambient light, while converting ambient light into a spectrum that attracts flying insects provides an economical method of delivering a killing agent to the insect.

  • Patent number: 4907732
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for joining pipe sections on or along side a pipeline right-of-way. The apparatus comprises a main frame and one or more telescoping subframes. The two pipe sections are supported in a first position where their ends are beveled. The two pipe sections are moved to a second position where they are pushed together, held in place with a clamp, and rolled while a welding head joins the two pipe sections. The joined pipe sections are moved to a third position to await removal from the apparatus by a crane. In the meantime, pipe sections are continually loaded and unloaded from the apparatus so that pipe sections can be joined on a continuous basis. The subframe telescopes into and out of the main frame to support a pipe section thereon. Road wheels and tractor wheels are provided on the main frame to allow the apparatus to be transported and positioned along the pipeline right-of-way in inaccessible and remote locations.

  • Patent number: 4905405
Abstract: A marine animal trap comprising entrance gate means including a plurality of plastic fingers having a relative buoyancy and arrangement to be maintained closed and to reclose by buoyancy action after an animal enters the trap by buoyant action. In preferred forms some fingers have a slight positive buoyancy and some have a slight negative buoyancy in water. A mounting frame suitably includes journal rods mounting said plurality of fingers for pivotal movement in a generally vertical manner, and stop means whereby when the trap is in water the nominal state of rest of at least some of the fingers is with the finger partially spanning the gate entrance and with such fingers in such position being restrained from outward pivotal movement, the fingers being nonetheless free to pivotally move inwardly so as to not impede animal ingress through the gate. The form, arrangement and placement of the fingers in the trap can vary.

  • Patent number: 4905400
Abstract: A contoured reel seat segment for a spinning type fishing rod which is formed to comfortably fit against the fisherman's hand grip thumb and finger positions where they grasp the reel seat segment forward of the spinning reel's main attachment stem. Force resistant inclined surfaces are formed on the reel crank side of the reel seat segment and on the bottom of the reel seat segment to advantageously increase the surface contact from the user's thumb and fingers to the reel seat segment of the spinning rod handle. The force resistant inclined surfaces can be concave surfaces, can be formed on a portion of the reel seat segment which protrudes laterally and outwardly towards the reel's crank, and can also be in the form of angularly disposed concave indents for the user's thumb and large finger. The force resistant inclined surfaces provide mechanical advantage for the user's thumb and fingers to resist and engage upward and downward rod forces which exert on a spinning rod reel seat in the act of fishing.

  • Patent number: 4903428
Abstract: A fishing jigger is shown having a paddle wheel rotatably mounted in a cavity of the jigger body about a transverse axis. A crank member is pivotally mounted on the paddle wheel eccentrically of the transverse axis and is reciprocated along a crank port by rotation of the paddle wheel induced by water impacting the paddles. A lure or bait attached to the crank member is thus jigged back and forth as the fishing jigger is pulled through the water thus increasing its appeal to a fish.
