  • Patent number: 6385171
Abstract: An LAN interface unit and an ATM switch unit cooperate to perform traffic control. A QoS unit monitors circumstances of an input buffer from a multiplexer of the ATM switch by means of a system controller and when an overflow of the input buffer is expected, the LAN interface unit of the multiplexer is instructed to perform traffic control. The LAN interface unit performs traffic control such as limitation of ATM cells inputted in the ATM switch.

  • Patent number: 6381221
Abstract: System for monitoring the performance of at least one line at a node of a digital communication network, such a system including a set of hardware registers associated with the line for registering line performance information associated therewith, a set of counters associated with the line, each counter defining a parameter depending on the line performance information, and a processing unit for, during a predetermined period of time, gathering the line performance information from the counters in a performance report to be sent to a network management unit. One table (22, 24 or 26) is associated with the line and stores all the data necessary to read the parameter for each counter of the associated set of counters with the line, and a processing machine (20) reads the table, sequentially computes the parameters defined by each counter by using the data stored in the table, and sequentially updates the counters.

  • Patent number: 6381252
Abstract: A method and system for managing and allocating multiple communication resources to ensure relatively equal usage. The selection of the resource can be performed by retrieving a pointer value, and testing the resource associated with the pointer value monitoring the call duration over this resource and appropriately updating it's status (if the call duration is below the threshold, a bad call count for the channel is incremented. And when the bad call count exceeds the threshold the channel is marked as faulty). The pointer value as necessary to find a usable resource, and a usable resource is selected. The pointer value can be modified either before the testing of the initially-selected resource, or after the final selection of the usable resource.

  • Patent number: 6377559
Abstract: A method for transmitting data between radio stations in a radio communication system includes superimposing first signaling information items with second information items at a transmitting end to form an aggregate signal. The aggregate signal is transmitted in a frequency channel, for distinguishing the first signaling information items and the second information items with the aid of individual fine structures. A received signal is evaluated at a receiving end. Initially an influence of the first signaling information items on the second information items is reduced by a compensation calculation carried out with reference to the received signal. Subsequently, the second information items are detected in the received signal already subjected to the compensation calculation. The method can be used in particular with a TD/CDMA transmission process. A receiver and a mobile station are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6373822
Abstract: A modular data network protocol conformance test system is designed to make distinct the key functionality that is required in protocol conformance testing such that the system can be reused across different platform testing, protocol testing, and network topology. As a result, in its current design, it can be used to test devices as distinct as cable modems, routers, and tag-switching routers. Consequently, the system has a packet generation module that generates send packets for transmission to the UUT (unit under test) and that analyzes the receive packets from the UUT. A separate network handling module transfers the send packets to and acquires the receive packets from the UUT.

  • Patent number: 6366572
Abstract: A symmetrical communication protocol allows handsets to operate as a master unit or a slave unit and operate independently of any base station. Remote units may contact each other directly with the calling unit being temporarily designated as a master unit and the called unit being designated temporarily as a slave unit. A wireless communication link is established between the two units and the units frequency-hop in synchronization in accordance with FCC requirements. The units independently monitor the signal strength of the incoming signal and can transmit power change commands to the other unit to increase or decrease transmission power as required. A calling unit initially transmits a call request on a limited number of the available frequency channels in order to decrease the acquisition time period. An idle unit has a sleep cycle and an awake cycle.

  • Patent number: 6366554
Abstract: A multi-carrier transmission system, for example a DMT system. Channel information is transmitted between two transceivers using a plurality of subcarriers. Each subcarrier, or symbol, has a parameter associated with it. The transceivers are adapted to transmit the channel information as a sequence of n groups in which each of the n groups contains information concerning the number of adjacent subcarriers which have the same value as the parameter, together with the actual value of the parameter. The parameter which may have a plurality of discrete values, may be a bit-loading value, or a QAM constellation identifier.

  • Patent number: 6356562
Abstract: A high-speed communications system which permits high-speed communication services to be implemented with minimum modification to the existing communications facilities. A multiplexer/demultiplexer unit multiplexes outgoing signals to a network and demultiplexes incoming signals from the network separately for voice and data signals. A first voice processing unit, being linked to a voice service subscriber who only uses voice communication services, processes voice signals for bidirectional communications over a subscriber line. A second voice processing unit, being linked to a voice/data service subscriber who uses both voice and data communication services, processes voice signals for bidirectional communication. An office-side modem unit has modulator/demodulator functions to support high-speed bidirectional data communication for the voice/data service subscriber. An office-side splitter splits incoming signals from the voice/data service subscriber into separate voice and data signals.

  • Patent number: 6353598
Abstract: The invention relates to mobile cellular communication systems in which asymmetric access to a time division duplex (TDD) communication channel is provided. The channel is divided (by TDD) into slots which are allocated to either uplink communication or downlink communication by the base station in each cell. Timing of slots, and thus of compulsory uplink and downlink slots, is coordinated across the cells of a system.

  • Patent number: 6347080
Abstract: A system and method for the detection of zero-rate communication frames on forward and reverse communication links is described herein. In a first embodiment, the rate determination process begins upon receiving pilot and traffic channel signals. The system then compares the received traffic channel energy with the pilot signal to obtain a metric. The metric is then compared with a predetermined threshold to detect the presence of a zero-rate traffic channel frame. In a second embodiment, the process begins with the receipt of a reverse communication link frame having first and second portions. The system then detects the energy contained in the first and second portions. The system compares the detected energy in the first portion with the detected energy in the second portion to obtain a metric. The system then compares the metric with a predetermined threshold to detect the presence of the zero-rate frame.

  • Patent number: 6343068
Abstract: The present invention relates to a guard apparatus for avoiding the malfunction of a communication apparatus due to an error in the received data in the specific location of a frame on the receiving side of an optical communication system using a SONET/SDH network. If a B2 error, a frame pattern error or an out-of-frame is detected for a received frame, this guard apparatus stops the operation for tri-stage protection for the data of the K1 and K2 bytes, and outputs data outputted for a received frame received one frame before the above-mentioned received frame. If these errors are not detected, the guard apparatus selects and outputs the non-protected data of the K1 and K2 bytes in the above-mentioned received frame. Thus, the extraction of data with an error due to an optical degradation can be avoided and thereby the malfunction of a communication apparatus in an optical communication system can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 6339601
Abstract: A method of, and frame synchronizing device for, synchronizing systems having a digital interface. The systems are synchronized by extracting frame time information from a signal transferred from an external source through a digital interface, generating a frame reset signal, delayed by predetermined time based on the extracted frame time information, and resetting the entire systems based on the generated frame reset signal. Also, the color burst signal is free-oscillated during the digital interface mode in order to accommodate to the frame reset signal, which has a variable period.
