  • Patent number: 7564878
Abstract: A method of operating a wireless network, including detecting at least one signal of an external radio source, by a network device of the wireless network, during normal operation of the wireless network, in which while detecting, the network device does not send data to another network device of the wireless network, and changing a communication channel or frequency band, if the at least one signal overlaps with a currently used communication channel or frequency band.

  • Patent number: 7551637
Abstract: Method and apparatus for a channel sensitive scheduler for scheduling transmissions in a communication system. The scheduler is defined by a priority function of the channel condition as determined by amount of transmission power needed by a mobile station. In one embodiment the channel condition is determined based on the transmission pilot power of each mobile station and is used to calculate a priority value for each mobile station. The mobile stations are then scheduled to transmit based on the priority value.

  • Patent number: 7545802
Abstract: A method for providing an optimized audio quality communication session between a near end and at least a far end telecommunications terminal requires that at least the codec of the near end telecommunications terminal is able to apply two alternative encoding techniques belonging to the same audio compression protocol. When the near end telecommunications terminal receives a data packet from the far end telecommunications terminal after a setup of the communication session during which the audio compression protocol is set, it will determine out of the received data packet the encoding technique used by the far end telecommunications terminal. This is performed by analyzing the content of the header of the received packet. In case the determined encoding technique is based on a different alternative encoding technique of the audio compression protocol used initially by the near end telecommunications terminal, then an adaptation will be performed.

  • Patent number: 7539193
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating communication between a CMTS and an application sever in a cable network. Customer premises equipment (CPE) generates packets that are sent through a cable modem (CM) to a cable modem termination system (CMTS). A packet is parsed by CMTS and the destination IP address and port number compared to the destination IP address-port tuples received by the CMTS from a datastore. A packet that is directed to an IP address-port tuple on the target list (a “service request packet”) is modified to incorporate CMTS-identifying information and subscriber-identifying information in the packet header. When the application server communicates with the CMTS to reserve the network resources, the application server provides the CMTS with the CM MAC and CM IP addresses to facilitate resource allocation, subscriber identification and billing.

  • Patent number: 7512142
Abstract: A source process communicates with a sink process by writing messages to a finite queue. The source process determines whether the finite queue is full. If the source process determines that the finite queue is full, the finite queue is emptied and a refresh-all message is written to the finite the queue. When the sink process reads a refresh-all message from the finite queue, the sink process performs a refresh-all operation in which a refresh operation is performed for each member of a set of objects.

  • Patent number: 7508778
Abstract: A system and method for adjusting quality of service in a communication system improves an allocation of resources in a communications environment with shared resources among multiple communicating stations by adjusting quality of service levels based on characteristics of the communicating stations. In a disclosed embodiment, a base station (130) communicates with one or more remote stations (110a, 110b). Quality of service levels for communications between the base station and a remote station 110 are adjusted based on a characteristic of the remote station. In this way, a lower quality remote station can be allocated a lower quality of service level than that allocated to a higher quality remote station, thereby preventing an inefficient allocation of shared resources and improving overall system performance.

  • Patent number: 7508766
Abstract: A routing protocol scatters a stream of packets along a number of parallel paths, the packets being treated independently. The next hop for each packet is chosen probabilistically by comparing the ‘resistance’ of available options. The resistance of a given hop depends upon the time the packet would spend in an output buffer from the current node, the time the packet would spend in the input buffer of the next hop node, the transfer time between the nodes and the number of hops that the packet would take from the current node to the ultimate destination of the packet using the shortest path. This routing protocol is more efficient that shortest path first routing under simulation.

  • Patent number: 7486624
Abstract: A single-usage network tap monitors network information flow over a particular connection. Instead of requiring a tap for each analytical device, by incorporating elements that regenerate, spread, and coordinate the timing of the signal, multiple, simultaneous, and parallel analytical devices can monitor a particular network connection through one tap, It incorporates four amplifiers preferably manufactured on the same IC die with high-impedance input terminals connected directly to the two conductors of a gigabit Ethernet local area network digital transmission line so as not to load or otherwise upset its impedance or other parameters. The output terminals of the operational amplifiers are connected to and match the input impedance of the digital transmission protocol Gigabit analyzer. The gain of the operational amplifiers is arranged so as to replicate at the input of the analyzer the signals appearing on the Gigabit local area network transmission line with uninterruptible power supply.

  • Patent number: 7466693
Abstract: A global communication internet telephone system is a new software Web Call structure, in which the system user only requires a computer with Windows 98® or above, a duplex sound card, a display interface and internet access, and logging directly into a GTD Web 800 web page thereafter, receiving a automatic number dispensing function and GTD automatic number skipping function. The characteristics of the system lies in that a signature which can be linked to the GTD Web 800 web pages for browsing is added into an e-mail of a user computer. As long as an e-mail receiver clicks on the signature file of the e-mail, he can be linked to the web pages and conduct a VoIP dialog with the e-mail sender. If a computer at a sending side is not powered on the sending side can freely choose whether to forward incoming calls to a designated cellular phone or local phone by automatically appointing a number.

  • Patent number: 7460523
Abstract: A distributed processing system including one or more modems connected to a server through a network, such as a cable network or other similar network for transporting data and/or voice. The processing applied to information to be transported to a public network, such as the Internet, is performed by the server rather than the modem. Voice services are provided to telephone equipment connected to a modem by digitizing the voice signals and forwarding the signals as packets to the server. The application of a network stack to the voice packets is performed by the server prior to sending the packets over the public network. Likewise, voice packets received from the public network include network stack formatting. The server removes this formatting prior to sending the voice packets to the modem. This significantly reduces the complexity and cost of the modems.

  • Patent number: 7447191
Abstract: A power supply distributor permits to broadcast data received in phantom mode at one of its port to at least few of the other ports such that the respective apparatus connected to the power supply distributor will receive them. The power supply distributor includes modems for at least few of the communications links, while the modems are connected between each other through a multiplexer. Optionally, the multiplexer is setup with a switching function. This enables advantageously to select the ports to which received data in phantom mode will be forwarded allowing to buildup a communications link between different apparatus, such link being based solely on transmission of data in phantom mode. Such links can be setup in a bi-directional modus between at least two apparatus. A ghost network is designed which is mapped on an existing network and based on transmission of data in a phantom mode.

  • Patent number: 7440459
Abstract: In a method of detecting whether a given node supports a given protocol version, a source node sends a request message to the destination mode based on a first protocol version. The source node receives an indication message in reply to the request, and may detect that the destination node does not support the first protocol version based on the indication message. Accordingly communications may be established between a user of the wireless network and an external network via the source and destination nodes.
