Patent number: 4604979Abstract: A suction space is disposed to selectively communicate with a pump working chamber defined at one end of a plunger via a first communication passageway in which a solenoid valve is arranged, or with suction ports formed in the plunger and communicating with the pump working chamber via a second communication passageway having a restriction therein. The solenoid valve alternately opens and closes for ordinary fuel injection during operation of the engine other than at the start thereof. A selector valve keeps the first communication passageway closed and simultaneously keeps the second communication passageway opened for fuel injection through collaboration of the suction ports with the second communication passageway, in place of the alternate opening and closing of the solenoid valve.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1985Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Assignee: Diesel Kiki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tadashi Kobayashi, Shinya Nozaki, Keiichi Yamada

Patent number: 4594979Abstract: A fuel injection pump serves to inject fuel into an engine. A movable member adjustably determines the rate of fuel injection into the engine. The fuel injection rate depends on the position of the movable member. A critical position of the movable member defines the boundary between a fuel injection enabling range and a fuel injection disabling range. This critical position is measured. An operating condition of the engine is sensed. The movable member is then controlled on the basis of the measured engine operating condition and the measured critical position.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1984Date of Patent: June 17, 1986Assignee: Nissan Motor Company, LimitedInventor: Seishi Yasuhara

Patent number: 4593671Abstract: A unique supplemental carburetion device for internal combustion engines producing a primary source of fuel-air mixture for use at idle and low engine speeds resulting in decreased fuel consumption and exhaust emissions comprising a fuel reservoir chamber joined to a source of liquid fuel and determinate fluid communication with a fuel metering chamber. The metering chamber preferably is vented to ambient air pressure contains diaphragm valve means for controlling fluid flow into the metering chamber. Liquid fuel from the metering chamber flows into a nebulizing chamber and is nebulized by interaction with a stream of ambient air or blow-by gases. The fuel-air stream is passed into a venturi throat and vaporized and then passed into an expansion chamber where the stream is expanded under low static gas pressure to a mixture having a pre-determined fuel to air ratio. The mixture exits the device and is delivered into downstream portions of the carburetor throat.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1985Date of Patent: June 10, 1986Inventor: Richard K. Boone

Patent number: 4590910Abstract: A liquid fuel injection pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine includes, a high pressure injection pump, an electrically operated spill valve which when open during a delivery stroke of the injection pump allows fuel to flow to a drain. The apparatus includes a control valve operable to control fuel flow through passage means to the injection pump, the control valve having three positions in the first of which there is unrestricted flow of fuel, in the second of which there is restricted fuel flow and in the third of which fuel flow is prevented. An angularly movable shaft is provided to close the spill valve and the control valve is connected to a shaft. The shafts exterior of the apparatus are connected to mechanisms whereby when the control valve is moved from the first position to the second position the spill valve will be closed thereby to allow the apparatus to supply fuel at a restricted rate.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1984Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: Lucas Industries Public Limited CompanyInventors: Edward R.
