    Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine comprises a rotary distributor member having a transverse bore mounting pumping plungers arranged to be moved inwardly by cam lobes on a cam ring. The outward movement of the plungers is controller by varying the axial position of the distributor member. Fuel flows from the bore by way of a delivery passage to an outlet and also when the distributor member is set to provide low fuel delivery through a restricted passage and a flow channel. The period in terms of degrees of rotation of the distributor member for a given displacement of fuel through the outlet is extended as compared with an apparatus in which the restricted passage and flow channel are not provided. The cam ring is also angularly adjustable and the restricted passage and flow channel are positioned so that flow of fuel through the restricted passage ceases as the cam ring moves angularly with increasing speed.

The cable has a spiral winding between two sun gears, and the boss plate extends between two neighboring turns of the winding. The number of turns of the winding is in excess of the maximum number of revolutions that the steering wheel can make. When the boss plate is rotated during the rotation of the steering wheel, the plate slides through the winding in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the winding.

    Abstract: Improved light reflector apparatus for use in an electronic flash unit or the like is formed by an injection molding operation, which causes both precise shaping of a reflector and accurate mounting of the reflector securely within a housing. A light-reflecting flexible sheet is placed in a mold so that its light-reflecting front surface is centrally positioned adjacent a mold forming surface. The forming surface, which is larger than the sheet, has a contour adapted for shaping the sheet to reflect light into a beam of illumination. Liquid plastic is injected into the mold under pressure against the opposite surface of the sheet, thus pressing its light-reflecting surface into intimate contact against the forming surface. Because the sheet is smaller, the border of the forming surface is not covered by the sheet. Plastic flows beyond outer edges of the sheet against the uncovered border of the forming surface.

    Abstract: In a fuel injection system, as an engine crankshaft rotates twice, a working chamber contracts and expands a number of times equal to twice the number of engine combustion chambers. Each time the working chamber expands, fuel is conducted to the working chamber. During alternate contractions of the working chamber, fuel is directed from the working chamber toward each of the combustion chambers in sequence to be injected thereinto at a first timing. During the intervening contractions of the working chamber, fuel is directed from the working chamber toward each of the combustion chambers in sequence to be injected thereinto at a second timing. The second timing follows the first timing by a fraction of at least one operating stroke of the engine. In another fuel injection system of this invention, fuel is periodically injected into an engine combustion chamber at a first timing with respect to rotation of the engine crankshaft.

    Abstract: A control device for Diesel engines with which a rapid shutoff of the latter is possible by emptying the suction chamber of the injection pump by aspiration. The control device includes a control valve, which in the operating position (I) opens up the feed line of the feed pump toward the suction chamber and in the reversed shutoff position (II) blocks this feed line between the compression side (D) of the feed pump and the suction chamber. The control valve is an electromagnetic shutoff valve. A further part of the control device is an electric fuel pump, which as a special aspirating pump is disposed in an aspiration line leading from the suction chamber back to the fuel tank. For emergency engine shutoff, the control valve, displaced into its blocking position (II), blocks the flow of fuel between the feed pump and the suction chamber, while the aspirating fuel pump that has been turned on at the same time empties the suction chamber by aspiration.

    Abstract: A fuel injection pump for a diesel engine includes a housing having a bore within which a plunger reciprocates according to the operation of the engine, the bore defining a pumping chamber at an end of the plunger. The pumping chamber is communicated to a fuel intake passage only when the plunger is moving in a direction to enlarge the size of the pumping chamber and being communicated to fuel injection nozzles only when the plunger is moving in a direction to reduce the size of the pumping chamber. A first electromagnetic valve for fuel shutoff is provided at a middle portion of the fuel intake passage. A second electromagnetic valve, advantageously used also for fuel amount control by timely venting the pumping chamber in its compression stroke, communicates the pumping chamber to the intake passage downstream of the first electromagnetic valve for at least a predetermined short time period when the first electromagnetic valve is closed.
