Patent number: 4543935Abstract: A pressure regulator valve for use in fuel systems for internal combustion engines utilizing super-chargers for air supply which includes a three-part housing lamination with separate upper and lower diaphragms between the bottom and top housings and the intermediate housing. The lower diaphragm is responsive to fuel pressure and will open a valve to by-pass fuel to a fuel tank. The upper diaphragm is exposed to the pressure of super-charged air to resist the opening of the fuel by-pass valve. The effective areas of the upper and lower diaphragms is designed to have a ratio of about 4 to 1. An adjustable air by-pass valve is provided to adjust the air pressure acting on the upper diaphragm to permit ratio adjustment of the air pressure reaching the regulator to the fuel pressure reaching the engine, for example, a fuel injector leading to the engine.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1984Date of Patent: October 1, 1985Assignee: Walbro CorporationInventor: Charles H. Patent number: 4541395Abstract: A pressure regulator for liquid pumping systems, and particularly fuel supply systems for use in vehicles, is disclosed. The regulator is designed with an inlet from the fuel pump, an outlet to the engine fuel inlet, and a drain outlet for draining fuel, in excess of that required by the engine, back to the fuel tank. During engine operation, fuel flow is continuous from the tank to the fuel pump, and from the fuel pump to the regulator. In most cases, fuel is continuously flowing from the regulator back to the fuel tank. Constant fuel flow through the regulator replenishes, in the regulator, the fuel drawn by the engine. A consistent fuel pressure is presented to the engine fuel inlet. The regulator and its systems are disclosed, as are methods of use of the regulator and the systems.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1984Date of Patent: September 17, 1985Inventor: Leroy Geiger

Patent number: 4535742Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, in which beyond a predetermined remnant stroke during the supply stroke of the pump piston a relief conduit is opened via a first control edge and the remaining fuel pumped by the pump piston is pumped into a reservoir connected there. During the subsequent intake stroke, the diverted fuel is pumped back into the pump work chamber of the pump piston, until the first control edge again closes the relief conduit. During the subsequent intake stroke of the pump piston, in particular at the bottom dead center position of the pump piston, the relief conduit to the reservoir is once again opened by a second control edge, and then a complete relief of the reservoir is attained. It is during this phase that the metering of the fuel to be injected during the next supply stroke of the pump piston also takes place, via a magnetic valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1984Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Helmut Laufer, Helmut Pfeifle, Max Straubel

Patent number: 4531491Abstract: A fuel injection pump serves to periodically inject fuel into an internal combustion engine. A movable control member serves to determine the quantity of fuel injected during each fuel injection stroke in accordance with the position of the control member. A permanent magnet is movable together with the control member. A stationary magnetically-permeable member serves to conduct magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnet. The magnetic flux conducted by the magnetically permeable member depends on the position of the control member. A Hall element unit serves to sense the conducted magnetic flux and generate a first signal indicative of the actual position of the control member. A second signal indicates a desired position of the control member. A device, responsive to the first and second signals, serves to adjust the actual position of the control member to the desired position thereof.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1983Date of Patent: July 30, 1985Assignee: Nissan Motor Company, LimitedInventors: Akihiro Iiyama, Hiroaki Miyazaki, Yukihiro Etoh, Toshiaki Tanaka
