The system also may include an instructor terminal located at an instructor site. The training site and the instructor site can be remotely located. The instructor may provide remote instruction or training to a trainee, for example by sending instruction inputs to the training terminal over the network in order to control aspects of the simulated environment.

    Abstract: A system and method for implementing a virtual fitness application are disclosed. Embodiments may be built for various platforms, including web browsers and mobile phones. One embodiment uses pose estimation to count the repetitive motions of a fitness activity (e.g., running). In one embodiment, to count the repetitive motions, a repetitive motion counting process is used that is based on computing differences of Y-coordinates of key points of the user. The repetitive motion counting process includes selecting a proper pose of the user; computing one or more delta values (corresponding to Y-coordinate changes of the key points); and counting a given user movement as a repetitive motion based on a function (e.g., average) of the delta values. One embodiment uses the pose estimation and repetitive motion count results to provide a gamified experience, for example, a leaderboard, a stats report, instant visual feedback, badges, coins, and a social experience.

    Abstract: A computer system analyses audio data representing a user speaking words from a body of text and identifies occasions where the user mispronounces an expected phoneme. Mispronunciation of the expected phoneme is identified by comparison with a phonetic sequence corresponding to the text, based on a predetermined or user-selected language model. The system requires the user to read continuously for a period of time, so that the user cannot hide any tendency they have to pronounce the words of the text either incorrectly or differently to the expected phonemes from the language model. The system operates on the basis of comparing the similarity of the spoken sounds of the user with the expected phonemes for the body of text, and it is not necessary to convert the user's speech to text. As the computer system need only work with the similarity scores and the sequence of expected phonemes, it can be implemented in a computationally efficient manner.
