  • Patent number: 11103702
Abstract: The present invention provides a method implementing a speech strategy based on zero crossing behavior of speech time waveforms; the zero crossing containing both spectral and temporal speech information. This method uses temporal information of speech to activate electrodes instead of spectral information; maps temporal segment durations to spatial durations along the basilar membrane inside the cochlea; and provides instantaneous, continuous information about speech to electrodes that stimulate the auditory nerve. Timing of oval window mechanical motion is represented by zero crossings which are used to activate electrodes implanted inside the cochlea. Motion of the tympanic membrane, and the oval and round windows, follow the speech signal temporal waveform. Positive segments of the temporal waveform cause inward displacement of the oval membrane from its stationary position and negative segments causes outward retraction of the membranes.

  • Patent number: 11090497
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to implantable medical devices (IMDs) and methods for use therewith. Such a method includes using an accelerometer of an IMD (e.g., a leadless pacemaker) to produce one or more accelerometer outputs indicative of the orientation of the IMD. The method can also include controlling communication pulse parameter(s) of one or more communication pulses (produced by pulse generator(s)) based on accelerometer output(s) indicative of the orientation of the IMD. The communication pulse parameter(s) that is/are controlled can be, e.g., communication pulse amplitude, communication pulse width, communication pulse timing, and/or communication pulse morphology. Such embodiments can be used to improve conductive communications between IMDs whose orientation relative to one another may change over time, e.g., due to changes in posture and/or due to cardiac motion over a cardiac cycle.

  • Patent number: 11058866
Abstract: A variety of graphically responsive defibrillation electrode pads are described that can selectively display different images during use. The graphically responsive pads include a base electrode pad structure, at least two graphics, and one or more controllable layers that have multiple states. In some embodiments, the controllable layer incorporates an electrochromic material. In a first (opaque) state, the controllable layer hides the first graphic such that only the second graphic is visible to a user on the back side of the defibrillation electrode pad. When the controllable layer transitions to a second (transparent) state, the first graphic is made visible to thereby cause a composite image that combines the first and second graphics to be visible on the back side of the pad. In some embodiments, the electrochromic layer defaults to the opaque state when no power is applied to the electrochromic layer.

  • Patent number: 11052257
Abstract: A two-part NMS-test bench is provided with which instruments, generator voltages, and surgery modes can be evaluated with regard to neuromuscular stimulations. By separating the NMS-test bench in a first part for application of the instrument and in the second part for evaluation of the physiological effect on nerves, a measurement free of artifacts is possible. The spatial and timely separation of the RF-application from the recording of the compound action potentials makes RF-disturbances ineffective. The electrical signals gained in the instrument test chamber can be pre-processed. The recorded electrical signals emitted from the instrument can be evaluated at the nerve model an arbitrary number of times. The variance involved with the recording of compound action potentials during direct use of the instrument can thus be minimized. The separated test of the signals at the nerve model avoids thermal damage of a prepared nerve and falsification of measurement results.
