  • Patent number: 9769622
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program product for generating location fingerprint data for a venue are described. A sampling device surveying a venue can move inside the venue. While the sampling device moves, the sampling device can record environmental readings including, for example, strengths of signals from multiple radio signal sources. The sampling device can take the recording at fixed or various time intervals. Meanwhile, the sampling device can determine, based on a starting point and motion sensor readings, an estimated location of the mobile device for each time the sampling device takes the recordings. The sampling device can display a motion path of the estimated locations and a user interface item for receiving a user input for correcting the estimated locations. The sample device can tag the recorded environmental readings with the corrected locations, and submit the tagged readings to a server for determining a location fingerprint for the venue.

  • Patent number: 9753965
Abstract: The disclosed apparatus, systems, and methods relate to a location query mechanism that can efficiently determine whether a target entity is located within a region of interest (ROI). At a high level, the location query mechanism can be configured to represent a ROI using one or more polygons. The location query mechanism can, in turn, divide (e.g., tessellate) the one or more polygons into sub-polygons. Subsequently, the location query mechanism can use the sub-polygons to build an index system that can efficiently determine whether a particular location is within any of the sub-polygons. Therefore, when a computing device queries whether a particular location is within the region of interest, the location query mechanism can use the index system to determine whether the particular location is within any of the sub-polygons.

  • Patent number: 9749865
Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for managing a beacon device. More particularly, a beacon management server is connected with the beacon device through a communication network and configured to periodically updates and manages a valid period of the beacon device. The beacon device initializes itself by autonomously deleting beacon information stored therein when the beacon device has been disconnected from the beacon management server for a certain time or more. Thus, the beacon device may be managed through the beacon management server. An operation of the beacon device may be controlled even when the beacon device is lost, thereby preventing illegal use of the beacon device by controlling a beacon signal that is transmitted even after the beacon device is lost. In addition, the beacon management server may verify the validity of the beacon device to give security to the beacon device and periodically update the valid period, thereby allowing efficient use of the beacon device.

  • Patent number: 9726751
Abstract: This disclosure concerns estimating the location of a transmitter using multiple pairs of locator nodes with known locations and measuring time of arrival of a signal received from a transmitter. A processor of a location estimation node first determines time difference of arrival values from time of arrival values measured by each pair of locator nodes. The processor then determines likelihood information for multiple candidate locations of the transmitter and estimates the location of the transmitter from the likelihood information. A processor further determines an initial time of arrival value for the received signal and channel impulse response for a radio channel between the transmitter and receiver. The processor then determines a time correction from the channel impulse response based on a first peak of the channel impulse response and a leading edge of the first value. The processor finally determines an improved time of arrival value of the received signal.

  • Patent number: 9674667
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling location data in a mobile communications network. A network node obtains an average geographical location of a mobile device over a predetermined time period and uses the average geographical location in an area of interest in an Origin Destination matrix. The advantage of using an average geographical location over a period of time is that much less data needs to be stored compared to storing all geographical data, but the data can be reused to define new Origin Destination matrices.
