  • Patent number: 9277528
Abstract: A method and corresponding system is provided help establish a zone-based paging configuration. In accordance with the method, a RAN entity may evaluate the level of traffic in several small cells of the RAN, identify those small cells that have at least a threshold level of traffic, and responsively construct a new tracking area that includes the identified small cells. In another aspect of the method, a UE that is registered in a current tracking area, may move into coverage of a new sector and receive from a base station associated with the new sector two or more tracking area IDs. The UE may then determine that at least one of the tracking area IDs is indicative of the tracking area in which the UE is currently registered, and responsively operate in the new sector without transmitting a tracking area update message.

  • Patent number: 9277441
Abstract: When the priority class is set to a mobile terminal that has moved from cell to cell and even if an HLR is in a congestion state, a communication service is provided to the mobile terminal on a priority basis. A location registration signal, which is transmitted from a mobile terminal (2) that has moved from another area, and which is to be transmitted to an HLR (30), is received, and the apparatus corresponding to the movement source area is identified based upon the content of the location registration signal. Priority class information indicating whether the transmission process to the HLR is a priority process or a non-priority process is acquired from the identified another mobile communication control apparatus (200), and whether or not the location registration signal should be transmitted to the HLR (30) is determined based upon the acquired priority class information.

  • Patent number: 9264937
Abstract: A method, device and system are provided for scheduling the delivery of messages from a wireless device in order to reduce congestion on the wireless network used by the wireless device. A message scheduler application operating on the wireless device intercepts messages being sent from at least one application running on the wireless device to a device layer for transmission, where intercepted messages are collected and held in a message queue for later transmission. The message scheduler monitors operation of the wireless device to detect the establishment of a communication connection, such as a voice call or packet data session, and causes the messages in the message queue to be transmitted from the wireless device utilizing logical channels assigned to the wireless device when setting up the communication connection that are different from the traffic channel assigned for the communication connection to transmit voice or data content.

  • Patent number: 9258717
Abstract: A method and arrangement in a terminal evaluation unit for detecting a malfunctioning terminal in a cellular network is provided. Connection data is received from at least one network node in the cellular network, wherein the connection data is referring to connections of terminals when present in cells of the cellular network. A mean connection drop rate is calculated based on the connection data for the terminals when present at least in a first cell during a preset time period. An individual connection drop rate which is associated with the first terminal is determined from the connection data. Deciding, based on a ratio between the individual connection drop rate and the mean drop rate, whether or not the first terminal is malfunctioning and providing the result from the deciding action to a cellular network operator for further evaluation.

  • Patent number: 9253711
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and arrangements for facilitating an efficient connection setup. The present invention specifies rules for defining the signaling of connection setup messages from user equipments such as to apply one single transmission if an assigned uplink transmission grant for transmitting the connection setup messages is sufficiently large while applying separate transmissions if the size indicated in said uplink transmission grant is not sufficient. Thus, a sufficiently large grant allows a parallel execution of the connection setup messages.
