Abstract: The compounds are vesamicol (hydroxylated phencyclidine (PCP) isomer trans-2-(4-phenyl-piperidino)cyclohexanol) derivatives with anticholinergic properties termed herein "azavesamicols" in which the cyclohexyl group of vesamicol is replaced with a heterocycle of similar size, the piperidyl ring. The compounds bind to the vesamicol receptor, a cytoplasmically-oriented site on the cholinergic synaptic vesicle, which is associated with the vesicular transporter of acetylcholine.

Abstract: A process for hydrodewaxing a hydrocarbon feedstock boiling above about 350.degree. F. by contacting the feedstock and hydrogen at a hydrogen pressure of from about 300 to about 2000 psig at a temperature of 400.degree. to 900.degree. F. and at a space velocity of about 0.1 to about 10.0 LHSV with a catalyst comprising about 0.1 to about 23 wt. % of an oxide of a Group VIII metal, such as nickel, or an oxide of a Group VIB metal, such as molybdenum; supported on a porous alumina support containing about 50 to about 85 wt. % of a crystalline alumino-silicate zeolite of the ZSM-5 type based on the weight of the support. The catalyst is further characterized by having greater than 60% of the pore volume between 45-600 Angstroms in the 70-200 Angstrom range. The process is especially useful for dewaxing lubricating oil basestocks.

Abstract: An FCC process and apparatus for atomizing heavy feed are disclosed. A liquid feed containing stacked asphaltenes is pressurized, and preferably heated, with a gas such as light hydrocarbons. Pressurized gas and liquid discharge at high velocity into an expansion chamber, where shear force and sudden expansion disrupt stacked structures. Preferably, some thermal conversion, visbreaking, occurs in the expansion chamber. The disrupted feed is discharged into an FCC reactor, preferably to the base of a riser reactor, with a lighter feed, such as a gas oil, added higher up in the riser. Improved atomization and vaporization of the heavy feed in the riser increases conversion and reduces coke make.

C. a mixture of a .beta.-hydroxyethyl sulfone with sulfuric acid is supplied to a fluidized bed of end product produced by recycling and mechanical stirring. The mixture is reacted at 100.degree. to 200.degree. C.

Abstract: Two processes are described for the preparation of the optically pure compounds of formula 1: ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are e.g. alkyl, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are e.g. hydrogen and R.sup.5 is e.g. hydrogen. Both processes include, as key steps, the enantioselective hydrogenation of a C.dbd.C double bond and the regioselective formation of a dicarboxylic acid monoamide derivative. In one process a phenylitaconic acid derivative is asymmetrically hydrogenated to give an optically active (R)-benzylsuccinic acid which is then converted to a diester, said diester being converted to the monoamide compound of formula 1. In the second process, a phenylitaconic acid derivative is converted to its anhydride, and the anhydride is then converted to a monoamide which is then asymmetrically hydrogenated to give the compound of formula 1.

Abstract: This invention relates to the production of hydroxy-terminated polymers in the 2,000-20,000 MW range suitable for use as prepolymers in curing reactions with isocyanates to produce elastomers. The process involves the continuous addition over periods of 25-50 hours of an oxirane (monoepoxide) or a mixture of an oxirane and an oxetane to a reaction mixture, consisting of stoichiometric excesses of oxonium ion-forming catalyst such as BF.sub.3 -etherate and a diol initiator dissolved in an inert solvent. Under these conditions, chain extension of the diol occurs and the formation of cyclic oligomers and other impurities is minimised. The mole ratio of the initiator to catalyst is maintained at above 10:1 to suppress the formation of cationic terminal species on the growing polymer chain.
