  • Patent number: 4897954
Abstract: An Apparatus for baiting long lines comprising a container holding water mixed with bait. The container is provided at its bottom with guide rollers designed to conduct a long line introduced into the container at the top thereof downwards and through the mixture of water and bait. A first baffle is provided in the container and extends essentially in the direction of advancement of the long line. The baffle may be set in different angular positions relative to the interior end wall of the container to form a baiting zone through which the long line is made to pass. A second baffle behind the first baffle may be adjusted into different positions of inclination relative to the first baffle to guide the flow of water and bait downwards behind the first baffle.

  • Patent number: 4896813
Abstract: Metals to be bonded are drawn from pay-off reels and passed around holding rollers which are grounded cathodes, each roller being partially exposed in an etching chamber having an anode area at least three times the exposed area of the cathode. Each chamber has an inert gas at from 10.sup.-4 to 10.sup.-1 Torr and is subjected to RF power with a frequency from 1 to 50 MHz, which by a magnetic field produced by fixed magnets in the holding roller produces a glow discharge plasma which etches the metal in the chamber. Etched surfaces of the strips are then rolled together in a vacuum of from 10.sup.-6 to 10.sup.-3 Torr and a temperature to 300.degree. C. at a rolling pressure sufficient to effect a thickness reduction from 0.1 to 30%.

  • Patent number: 4894942
Abstract: A pneumatically operated device for collecting biological specimens under water in a receiving chamber and employing a pneumatically operated plunger for creating suction at an intake to the receiving chamber is provided with a nozzle having a movable end remote from the intake. A pneumatic nozzle activator is operated in tandem with the plunger to extend the movable end of the nozzle away from the intake and toward a live biological specimen to be trapped. Concurrent retraction of the plunger and extension of the movable nozzle end toward the specimen, enhances the likelihood of a successful capture. A specimen collecting container may be coupled to the receiving chamber, and flapper valves within the nozzle, at the receiving chamber intake, and at a specimen collecting port leading to the collecting container facilitate the direction of the specimen into the collection container while reducing the likelihood that the specimen will escape.

  • Patent number: 4895291
Abstract: A method of making a hermetic seal for a solid-state device is disclosed. The device includes a ceramic housing having a cavity for an element such as an image sensor. A cover formed of a transparent material is sealed to the housing to close the cavity. A metallization support is formed on the cover and on the housing. In order to form a hermetic seal at a relative low temperature, a layer of indium is coated on the metallization support of either the cover or the housing, and a layer of tin is coated on the support of the other of the two parts. The cover is then placed on the housing, and the parts are placed in a furnace where a temperature under the melting temperature of the composite alloy of tin and indium is maintained for a period long enough to diffuse the tin and indium together. The temperature is then raised to a temperature sufficient to melt the alloy, and the device is then slowly cooled to ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 4894884
Abstract: Over-center self-closing hinge for cabinet doors, having an inner link and an outer link in a quadrilateral arrangement and a lever in the form of a hairpin spring fulcrumed at one end in the cabinet-wall-related hinge part and thrusting at right angles to the hinge axis against a cam which is journaled on the inner link and abuts in its one position against the pivot eye of the latter and in its other position against the link itself. The cam is of such a configuration that, when the hinge is moved from the open position to the closed position, just before it reaches the closed position, the line of thrust applied by the hairpin spring passes through the pivot axis of the link, but then the spring passes over onto a portion of the cam associated with the second position of the latter, thereby causing the cam to rock over and alter the line of thrust of the spring such that it seeks to close the hinge.

  • Patent number: 4893430
Abstract: A multi-jointed, artificial fishing worm (A) is disclosed which includes a buoyant head (B) and a beaded worm body (C) having a major length and consisting of a series of spherical beads (18) threaded upon a flexible fishing line (16). The beads are threaded loosely on the fishing line to provide a prescribed spacing (30) and a flexible joint (26) about which worm body (C) flexes in all directions to simulate the natural motion of a worm upon retrieval of the artificial lure. A weight (D) threaded onto the fishing line and about the middle of worm body (C) provides an unusual undulating motion to worm body sections (22 and 24) defined on either side of weight (D). The amount of weight (D) may be prescribed in order to change artificial fishing worm (A) from a top water lure to a lure which may be fished at desired depths below the surface of the water.

  • Patent number: 4893433
Abstract: A slip bobber for a fishing line includes a pair of separable parts that abut on each other at respective transverse mating surfaces to form a buoyant body. The mating surface of one of the parts has a diametral groove dimensioned for slidable reception of a fishing line. An externally-threaded post projects outwardly from this surface and has a longitudinal line-receiving slot extending transversely through the post and in register with the groove. The mating surface of the other part includes an opening in register with the post and dimensioned for receiving the post in threaded engagement for bringing the parts into abutting engagement. A resilient flexible wall preferably provides the latter mating surface and is stressed to enhance engagement and resist separation of the parts.

  • Patent number: 4891862
Abstract: A self-closing hinge comprises a pair of hinge leaves pivotally interconnected by an offset hinge pin. One leaf has a flanged head projecting substantially radially with respect to a sleeve of the other hinge leaf, within which the hinge pin is mounted. The external surface of the sleeve serves as a cam surface against which a follower element carried on the head of the other leaf is biased. The cam follower comprises a tubular spring-steel member oriented parallel to the hinge pin and generates a force through the head of the other leaf along an axis distally offset relative to the axis of the hinge pin. During closing of the hinge the follower is brought into registration with a pocket formed in the sleeve to effect a rocking movement of the follower about one edge of the pocket to generate a self-closing moment.

  • Patent number: 4892132
Abstract: A casting method and apparatus making use of a twin belt caster which has an upper belt, a lower belt and dam members disposed between both opposing longitudinal edges of the upper and lower belts. The upper belt, lower belt and dam members in cooperation provide a continuous casting mold which is inclined at a predetermined angle from the horizontal plane and into which a melt of steel is poured. The lower belt provides a smaller cooling effect than the upper belt so that the solidification of the melt is retarded in the region near the lower belt as compared with the region near the upper belt.

  • Patent number: 4891903
Abstract: A fishing sinker to be used as either a sliding sinker or a non-sliding sinker comprised of a body 20 with flatted side supporting two end tabs 22 defining a through hole and a centered element 26 integrated with an intermediate portion 28 in a way to define an open slot 30 and two transverse slots 34. The end tabs are movable and open to the opposite side from the main slot thus providing a sine wave path for the line to be threaded. Once in place the line 36 follows a straight path allowing the sinker to slide on the line. The tabs are then pressed against the body thus securing the line within the through hole. A looping of the line around the intermediate portion 28 may be used to fix the line frictionally to the sinker. Again the line is threaded under the tabs to complete the mounting. The tabs are again set so as to secure the line.
