  • Patent number: 5174027
Abstract: The cutting height of a grass trimmer is determined by the location of an eyelet (19) through which the cutting thread (16) extends from the coil (15) of the trimmer. According to the invention the eyelet is provided in an insert (21) accommodated in a hole of the trimmer wall. The insert can be set in at least two positions whereby the eyelet adopts different heights.

  • Patent number: 5172524
Abstract: A hand sanding block is formed with two blocks, which may be of equal or unequal lengths, of like cross section and disposed in coplanar relationship with opposed inner ends. The blocks are freely movable towards away from each other, event to the point of total separation, by means of a pair of spaced dowel pins projecting from one block for telescopic engagement in corresponding spring loaded sockets in the other block and are normally held apart in spaced relationship by the springs in the sockets. For mounting and removing an endless sanding belt or an abrasive sanding strip, the blocks are pressed together so the inner ends are in abutting relationship and once the belt or strip is in place, the holding pressure is released so the block can move apart to provide tension on the belt or strip.

  • Patent number: 5170560
Abstract: A hand held nibbling machine has a manipulatable housing with a drive head in which there is a downwardly opening passage. A tool assembly has an upper portion extending into the passage of the drive head, a lower portion for supporting a die, and a neck portion therebetween providing a throat portion between the upper and lower portions and into which a workpiece may extend. The upper portion of the tool assembly is releasably engaged in the passage of the drive head by interengaging surfaces about a portion of the outer surface of the upper portion of the tool assembly and about a portion of the wall of the drive head defining the passage, and these surfaces are disengageable by rotation of the tool assembly within the passage to move the interengaging surfaces out of alignment. A releasable fastener in the drive head is engageable with the upper portion of the tool assembly to secure the tool assembly in a rotated position in which the surfaces are interengaged.

  • Patent number: 5170559
Abstract: A cutting blade (16) of rose-gripping shears cooperates with an anvil (30). A clamping piece (50), which has a clamping plate (52) which rests against the anvil (30) in the closed position, is movable together with the cutting blade (16). The said clamping piece can move backwards under spring action in order to hold a cut stem between the clamping plate (52) and the anvil (30). The spring urging of the clamping piece (50) is obtained by a spring arm (56) which extends in an arcuate section around the swivel pin (22) between the shear arms and comes against a mounting plate (58) which is connected, fixed for rotation, to the gripping lever of the cutting blade (16).

  • Patent number: 5165171
Abstract: A unitary metal pizza slice server has a triangular food support surface with a first handle portion projecting from its base and an overlying second handle portion resiliently joined at the distal end of the first portion to form a U-shape handle. The second handle portion terminates in a concave U-shaped food gripper facing the base of the triangular food support surface. The handle has a zone proximate the food support surface of a sufficient width and length in order to dissipate heat from a piping hot pizza slice on the food support surface so that the portion of the handle beyond this zone may be gripped by an unsheathed hand of a user. The handle is also sufficiently long to ensure sanitary serving of the pizza slice.

  • Patent number: 5161309
Abstract: The present invention is a swim fin equipped with extendable knives which can be used by a diver to fight off an attack by a predatory underwater creature, such as a shark. The knives, when in their locked closed positions, lie in a recessed section provided in an outside edge of the swim fin. In their locked closed positions, the knives lie parallel with a bottom surface of the swim fin. When extended to their locked open positions, the knives point downward from the swim fin. The swim fin is provided with means for locking the knives in their open and closed positions, unlocking the knives from their locked open and locked closed positions, and moving the knives between their open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 5159758
Abstract: A carpet trimming tool is disclosed for trimming edges of two carpet sections to be placed into abutment and joined together by a thermo adhesive tape or the like. The device utilizes a base with a pair of transversely spaced, upwardly projecting blades cooperating with a downwardly directed clamping arrangement holding the two carpet sections in engagement one with each of the two blades. Since the two blades cut the respective carpet sections from the underside generally cutting only the base of the carpet, and due to the constant spacing between the two blades, the resulting joint is virtually entirely concealed as there is no damage to the tuft caused by the cutting.

  • Patent number: 5153993
Abstract: A clay cutter for simultaneously cutting a plurality of slabs of clay, including a frame including first and second opposing, longitudinally-extending side members. A plurality of cross wires are attached to and extend between the first and second side members in mutual parallel relation to each other. First and second springs extend along respective ones of the side members and are alternately retractable and uniformly extensible between a relatively short length and a relatively long length. The cross wires are attached by opposite ends to the springs and are moveable with the springs as the springs move between the relatively short length and the relatively long length to thereby decrease or increase uniformly the space between each of the cross wires.

  • Patent number: 5150523
Abstract: A deadman switch arrangement for a hedge trimmer wherein the auxiliary handle of the hedge trimmer is provided with a cover member which pivots thereon. The cover member has a camming surface near its pivot point, the camming surface having a ramp which moves an actuating pin inwardly toward the center of the hedge trimmer housing as the cover member is moved toward the auxiliary handle. When moved inwardly of the housing, the actuating pin closes a switch to complete the main power circuit of the hedge trimmer. The cover member is biased away from the auxiliary handle so that if the operator releases the cover member, the hedge trimmer is automatically turned off.
