  • Patent number: 4679273
Abstract: The present invention provides a dental appliance for cleansing the gingival one third areas of the teeth, the sulcular regions and the embrasure regions. The dental appliance of the present invention is in the form of a tooth brush having a brush head portion a handle portion and a neck portion. A plurality of tufts of bristles are connected to the brush head portion, preferably in a single row. The tufts form an undulating brushing surface having a plurality of alternating convex and concave regions. The convex regions are configured to coincide with portions of the free gingival margin adjacent to the facial surfaces of selected teeth and the concave regions are configured to coincide with the interproximal margins between the teeth selected in configuring the convex regions. As a result of the coincidence, the aforementioned areas of the teeth and gingivae can be efficiently cleaned. In order to permit easy manipulation of the appliance within the oral cavity, the brush head portion is cylindrical.

  • Patent number: 4676153
Abstract: Bales of hay or other fibrous material which are recompressed to approximately half of their original volume and then retied with bale twine and then held in a decompression chamber for a sufficient period of time to allow for trapped air to escape and for the fibrous material to loose some of its resiliency before subjecting the retied bales to unrestricted recoil stresses. Bales are recompressed in the recompression chamber, then tied, then transferred, under full compression, to a decompression chamber where they are held for said period of time prior to being ejected from the machine.

  • Patent number: 4672706
Abstract: An ergonomically designed toothbrush includes a handle of rectangular cross-sectional configuration. The handle is twisted about its longitudinal axis so that it fits the palm of a person's hand providing a power grip yet will fit most toothbrush holders. The forward end of the handle tapers outwardly and has an elliptical cross-sectional configuration with its outer surface being textured for ease of manipulation and comfort. A small elliptical neck connects the brush head to the handle and is designed not to interfere with the lips or cheeks when brushing. The brush head includes multi-level tufts of two grades of stiffness arranged in offset rows and is designed to remove plaque from interproximal areas as well as tooth surfaces and to reach into the gingival margin to gently massage the gums.

  • Patent number: 4670933
Abstract: An electrically heated windshield wiper assembly which includes a wiper blade of a resilient material such as rubber which is mounted within a wiper blade mounting strip of metallic material coated or laminated with plastic wherein the material is electrically resistant metal which generates heat therein responsive to electrical current being passed therethrough in a such a manner that this heat will warm the wiper blade to facilitate efficiency of wiping thereof of a conventional windshield configuration. The wiper blade mounting strip also provides the means whereby the wiper blade is secured to the clips of a conventional wiper frame. The wiper blade mounting strip defines a slot longitudinally along the center thereof into which the wiper blade is detachably secured. A rheostat is included to vary the amount of current and therefore the amount of heating of the wiper blade mounting strip and a switch is included for selective operation of the heating system.

  • Patent number: 4671173
Abstract: A device for selectively controlling the diameter of sections of a calender roll. The device comprises a plurality of nozzles which direct jets of superheated steam against sections of the calender roll. Thermal expansion, resulting from localized heating by the steam jets, corrects local non-uniformities in the gap between adjacent cooperating calender rolls. Moisture which condenses from the steam onto the calender roll surface is removed by a flow of air past the roll surface.

  • Patent number: 4667360
Abstract: The essential feature of the new toothbrush is the relative position of the handle (1) to the head (3) and the bristle pattern (4). An angle reference plane (11) lying on the bristle side coincident with an upper surface of the brush handle intersects the bristle pattern either at the surface (15), the edge between the said surface and the side (16) facing the handle, or on the side (16) of the bristle array facing the handle. Relative to the bristle array surface (15), an acute angle (.alpha.) of from 5.degree. to 20.degree. is formed between the two planes. The new toothbrush therefore is a bristle array surface set at an angle to the handle and improved force transfer to the working surface of the bristle array.

  • Patent number: 4658460
Abstract: A brush for a washing roller for use in an automatic motor vehicle washing installation or the like, comprises a flexible rectangular backing element (2) having means (3,4) along each of two opposite parallel edges for joining these edges together to hold the backing element (2) in a cylindrical configuration. Over the surface of the backing element (2) there are a plurality of sockets (5) for receiving fibres (10) fixed to the backing element by a sewing thread (11). One or a plurality of strip-like zones inclined diagonally with respect to the rectangular shape of the backing element (2) is or are provided with fibres (10) of a greater length such that when the backing element (2) is curved into its cylindrical configuration the strip-like zones with longer fibres form a helix over the surface of the roller thus formed.

  • Patent number: 4658716
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a controller for controlling the local diameters of a temperature sensitive calender roll by selectively heating sections of a sheet of calenderable material with infrared lamps while the sheet is in contact with the calender roll or before the sheet contacts the roll. The calender roll is made of a material having at least one dimension which responds to changes in temperature. Therefore, thermal expansion of the roll, resulting from contact of the heated sheet with the roll surface, corrects local non-uniformities in the calender roll diameters. If the calender rolls unexpectedly stop or slow down so that the sheet of calenderable material becomes overexposed to infrared radiation, a fire detecting device detects and extinguishes the fire by turning off the infrared heating lamps and flooding the area around the lamps with a fire-extinguishing fluid.

  • Patent number: 4656684
Abstract: A hair styling and grooming implement for use with the hair blow dryer essentially comprises two pieces, a hair engaging member and a handle. The member is mounted on the handle and both are capable of freely rotating along a common longitudinal axis relative to each other. The handle includes a locking means and releasing means which prohibits relative rotational movement between the handle and member and which holds the handle and member in selective rotational orientation or allows free relative rotation, to permit easy disengagement of the brush from the hair. The hair engaging member includes several rows of bristles on a brush holder which untangles the hair and holds the hair in order to wrap it around the body of the member. The member also includes beveled flanges which direct the hair onto the brush as the hair is drawn around the body of the member.
