  • Patent number: 4694525
Abstract: In a hairbrush having a base portion for implantation of bristles and a grip portion, bristles are implanted to extend from a center axis in the radial direction viewed in a cross-sectional plane of said implantation portion, in such a fashion that the curve defined by the tips of said bristles describes an arcuate shape, the curve defined by the tips of said bristles is arcuately recessed in a cross section in the longitudinal direction, and the axis of rotation of said grip portion in the longitudinal direction is in parallel with the center axis of said bristles and is spaced apart therefrom by 5 to 15 mm on the side of said bristles.

  • Patent number: 4691405
Abstract: In a toothbrush having a pair of adjustable bristle-mounting tabs which pivot relative to the bristle-mounting base so that the bristles mounted on the tabs may deflect in order to conform to varying tooth surfaces, a metal plate formed within the head of the toothbrush has opposite lobes thereof which extend into and form part of the tabs to provide better hinging action for the tabs and to prevent the tabs from breaking off and possibly being swallowed. The toothbrush is made using an injection mold, the lower half of which has a pair of dowels which are inserted in apertures within the opposite lobes of the metal plate to initially position the metal plate therein. The lower half and an opposite mating upper half together provide opposite mating pins which engage the opposite sides of the metal plate so as to precisely position the plate within a cavity defined by the joined opposite halves of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4691629
Abstract: An apparatus for dehydrating a crude veneer includes a pair of spaced parallel rolls each being provided with teeth on the periphery thereof which become sequentially aligned with those of the other roll as the rolls are rotated in opposite directions to each other. A veneer is passed through the gap between the rolls to efficiently squeeze out water while being subjected to a minimum of plastic deformation. This is accomplished by optimumly selecting the distance between the tips of the teeth on the two rolls as well as the distance between the peripheries of the rolls except for the teeth. The periphery of each roll is covered with an elastic material such as sponge in order to prevent water once pressed out from the veneer by the teeth from permeating into the veneer again.

The device consists of a circular pad for removable attachment to bottom of the holder for use on a floor and a plurality of brushes for removable attachment around perimeter of the holder for use on a base board of a wall. A flexible cover is removably attached over the holder to keep the brushes in proper position when the holder rotates when used. A longer softer brush may be installed so that bristle will reach to a corner apex between wall at right angles to each other.

  • Patent number: 4691404
Abstract: An interdental toothbrush has a handle made from a mixture of a thermoplastic elastomer and a general purpose polypropylene. A twisted wire brush projects from the handle in axial alignment therewith. The toothbrush can be held within a loosely clasped fist, with one end of the brush held between a thumb and an index finger. By manipulating the thumb and index finger, the angle at which the brush projects may be changed at will. In this way, the insertion of the brush in more difficult to reach spaces in or around teeth is more easily performed.

  • Patent number: 4685168
Abstract: The invention concerns a system for keeping windshield wiper blades free of ice or snow accumulation. A rectangular strip of transparent material is either affixed to or formed integrally with the windshield to extend outwardly from the surface thereof for a distance of 1/16". The strip is about the same length as the wiper blade and one inch wide. It is positioned with the longitudinal edges parallel to and the lower edge spaced 2" from the rest position of the wiper blade, whereby the blade wipes over both longitudinal edges of the strip in each direction on every cycle of reciprocating blade movement. The dimensions of 1/16" in thickness, 1" in width, and 2" spacing from the blade have been found to provide superior results in optimum blade cleaning with minimal wear on the blade edges, and are therefore considered critical dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4685389
Abstract: A device for controlling the diameter of cylindrical sections of a rotating calender roll. The device comprises at least one nozzle which directs a jet of air against the calender roll. The flow of air from each nozzle remains approximately constant. Only the temperature of the jets change as heating elements associated with each nozzle are energized or deenergized. Thermal expansion or contraction, resulting from localized heating or cooling by the air jets, corrects local non-uniformities in the calender roll diameter.

  • Patent number: 4685390
Abstract: A calender wherein a permanently installed main roll cooperates with at least one exchangeable roll to provide a nip for the passage of a web of paper or the like. The end portions of the exchangeable roll are mounted in bearings which are insertable into and extractible from sockets provided in levers which are pivotably mounted in the frame of the calender. The calender has a transporting unit which is provided with grippers for the bearings and with motors which reciprocate the grippers to extract the bearings from their sockets after the levers are pivoted to positions in which the exchangeable roll is spaced apart from the main roll. The transporting unit thereupon transfers the exchangeable roll onto a mobile rack which can be transported to a station where the exchangeable roll is repaired.

  • Patent number: 4681033
Abstract: In a belt press of the type used to dewater heavy slurries, an improved belt drive system is provided. The upper belt is driven by at least two rollers, one of which is situated in the dewatering section wherein the upper and lower belts are squeezed and traveling together. The improved drive arrangement provides a more uniformly increasing tension in the belt as it passes through the dewatering section than in such presses heretofore. Further because the lower belt is at least partially driven by its frictional engagement with the upper belt, through the sandwiched slurry, the synchronization of the belt speeds is improved. Further improved control of the belt press performance is provided by means for sensing the speeds of the belts and responsive means for regulating the belt tensioning systems accordingly.

  • Patent number: 4679274
Abstract: An oral hygiene device for mounting on and manipulated by a user's finger comprises a stem, an oral hygiene working head and a clamp for mounting the device on a user's finger. The working head is provided at one end of the stem and the mounting clamp provided at the other end of the stem. The stem includes a stepped portion between the working head and the mounting clamp to elevate thereby a portion of the stem provided with the working relative to the clamps so as to provide a working head essentially as an extension of the finger. The clamp may be formed of plastic having two pairs of opposing lugs. The plastic may be sufficiently resilient to conform to the shape of the user's finger to ensure an adequate secure mounting of the finger. The oral hygiene device of this construction provides a new mode for the delivery of improved oral hygiene to facilitate a quick and accurate arrival at predetermined destinations of the gum tooth junction.
