  • Patent number: 7095755
Abstract: In data transfer in isochronous mode using an IEEE1394 serial bus, the data transfer rate is guaranteed, but data transfer is disabled if the number of channels is insufficient. An already assigned channel is released by lowering the data transfer rate currently using that channel, and the released channel is assigned to new data transfer, thus allowing the new data transfer.

  • Patent number: 7092384
Abstract: A system and method for providing a voice and/or data service is thus presented, comprising the following. A connection request is detected. The connection request is formatted into a data cell. The data cell is sent to a service control point. The service control point determines in real time whether a connection to public switch network is available. If the connection to a public switch network is available, the requested connection is set up as a virtual circuit connection to the public switch network.

  • Patent number: 7092410
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring data transmission performance through a packet switched network, the apparatus having a time of day (TOD) clock for determining a send TOD timestamp, and for determining a present TOD when a data packet returns to the sending apparatus. The apparatus further comprising a counter that is incremented by a send sequence number each time data is sent, and one or more subtractors for calculating a first time difference between the send TOD timestamp and a receive TOD timestamp, and for calculating a second time difference between the receive TOD and the present TOD. Additionally, one or more comparators of the apparatus compare a sequence difference between the send sequence number and a receive sequence number in order to measure data transmission performance.

  • Patent number: 7088708
Abstract: A method for remotely communicating with a Broadband modem is provided. Once a communication error is detected on a Broadband modem, a Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) connection is established between the Broadband modem and a remote server. Communication then occurs with the remote server via the POTS connection using Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) tones. The communication preferably comprises transmitting information associated with the communication error to the remote server via the POTS connection using DTMF tones and receiving a diagnosis from the remote server via the POTS connection in DTMF tones. A system for remotely diagnosing a Broadband modem as well as a Broadband modem is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7082130
Abstract: A system and methods are shown for providing packet data serving node (PDSN) redundancy. One exemplary method includes providing an access node with a plurality of packet data serving nodes and at least one system manager, establishing an N to 1 redundancy of active to standby PDSNs. Upon establishing a communications session with a mobile node, each active PDSN provides state updates to the standby PDSN including only non-recoverable data. Upon failure of any active PDSN, the standby PDSN reassigned as an active PDSN replacing the failed unit and assuming the communications session with the mobile node. The remaining active PDSNs are notified of the reassignment and transmission of updated state data is discontinued.

  • Patent number: 7082131
Abstract: A network communication system sends identical information from a source node to a plurality of destination nodes by first sending the information from the source node to a predetermined relay node, then sending the information from the relay node to the destination nodes over predetermined communication paths. The predetermined communication paths connect the destination nodes to the relay node in a star topology. The star topology greatly simplifies the routing of the information, while automatically avoiding looped paths, and enables the identical information to arrive at all destination nodes in real time, substantially simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 7079527
Abstract: A Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) connection is established between a Broadband modem and a remote server. A configuration request is then transmitted from the Broadband modem to the remote server using DTMF tones. Subsequently a domain name associated with a Broadband Service Node (BSN) and a user identifier, such as a telephone number, is received from the remote server via the POTS connection using Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) tones. A PPPoE session is then established using the domain name, by firstly authenticating the Broadband modem for the PPPoE session and then configuring the DSL modem. This configuration is accomplished by transmitting a request for configuration details from the Broadband modem to the BSN having the domain name and then receiving configuration details from the configuration server. The Broadband modem then automatically configures itself using the configuration details.

  • Patent number: 7075896
Abstract: A method for the automatic layout of switched networks of switched network topologies. In representative embodiments, a topological map of a network is automatically obtained by combining various segments into one of three segment types, a bus segment, a serial segment, and a star segment. In the creation of the topological map of the network, the methods can be used to update the network map as changes occur.

  • Patent number: 7072365
Abstract: A frequency agile cable modem termination system which is configured to receive cable TV or other broadband signals on a frequency allocated basis. Cable TV headend may receive cable TV modem or other signals via optical/electrical converters and other links, and route those signals through a frequency multiplexer to divide individual feeds into separated frequency slots. The cable modem termination system may then have receivers tuned to individual slots allocated to data feeds, such as Internet, video, telephony or other sources, and route those sources over the Internet. Upon a failure condition within any given receiver or other component, a backup cable modem termination system, connected to the same common bus as the main or active system, may be rapidly activated by having backup receivers contained in that unit tuned to appropriate frequencies to pick up the signals within the corresponding band. Reliability and robustness is increased, and cabling requirements are decreased.

  • Patent number: 7065059
Abstract: A technique restores adjacencies between a non-stop forwarding (NSF) router and its neighboring routers during reload of routing protocol software on the NSF router within a computer network. When a new instance of the routing protocol software is re-loaded, each interface of the NSF router is placed in a special state that enables it to receive incoming Hello packets from its neighboring routers. When placed in the special state, the interface passively “listens” for incoming Hello packets from the neighbors to determine which neighbors send the packets. The router thereafter promptly creates and sends a unicast Hello packet to each neighbor from whom it has received an incoming Hello packet and creates associated neighbor data structures.

  • Patent number: 7058050
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for managing communications between two or more ad-hoc networks in a communication system. The systems and methods may have flexible communication time sharing of one or more nodes taking part in two or more ad-hoc networks. For example, the communication scheduling function for a node shared by two or more ad-hoc networks is provided with a generic functional architecture such that it may be located in a number of different locations. In one embodiment, a Bluetooth communication system includes an inter-piconet scheduling function having a JUMP mode introduced to distinctly identify a node to its neighbors as being shared with multiple ad-hoc networks. The jump mode may have one or more methods for managing the inter-network communications that may include: (1) predetermined fixed starting point and length communication windows, (2) time points with flexible starting points and communication window length, and/or (3) random starting time and length communication windows.

  • Patent number: 7042868
Abstract: A process is provided for determining the distance between two devices by sending ranging packets between them. The local device sends a first ranging packet, which the remote device sends holds for a first hold time before sending a second ranging packet in return. The local device also sends a third ranging packet, which the remote device sends holds for a second hold time before sending a fourth ranging packet in return. If the second hold time is twice the first hold time, then the propagation time for signals between the two devices can be determined solely by time measurements made by the local device. For received signals, these time measurements can be adjusted to provide accurate time estimates for a direct line of sight signal, which corresponds to a shortest transmission distance between the two devices. The propagation time can then be used to determine distance between the devices.
