Abstract: Radiation curable coating compositions that contain an acrylate-capped polyether urethane, a low molecular weight polyfunctional acrylate, a monofunctional acrylate and, optionally, a photo-initiator are described. When cured, the coating compositions are sufficiently hard and flexible to serve as an overprint coating on sheet metal which is to undergo metal forming operations.
Abstract: Improvements in phosphonitrilic polymers and compositions based on the same, possessing outstanding low temperature flexibility and good physical strength over a broad range of service conditions, are obtained by the incorporation of some unsaturated substituents in the side chains on the --P=N-- backbone, to adapt the polymers to vulcanization with sulfur accelerated cure systems or radiation cure.
Abstract: An improved process for the photopolymerization of compositions including photopolymerizable acrylic or methacrylic acid esters and an initiator (e.g., a benzoin compound) is disclosed. The addition of 0.1 to 20 weight percent (based on the amount of polymerizable material) of an organic phosphite substantially reduces the polymerization time of the resulting composition.
Abstract: Radial block copolymers are mechanically combined with additional polymeric materials to form plastic compositions having a high degree of clarity so that they can be substituted for polyvinylchloride plastic compositions in the fabrication of such devices as intravenous and blood tubing, containers for intravenous solutions and blood fractions, functional parts of intravenous administration equipment such as sight and drip chambers, needle adapters and miscellaneous assemblies for contact with intravenous fluids. The compounds of this invention can also be utilized for catherization, bodily drainage systems, and as pharmaceutical closures, resealable injection sites and syringe plunger tips.

Abstract: N-Substituted acryloyloxyethyl amines are useful both as radiation curable coating materials and as cure accelerators in coating formulations. The amines are prepared by one of several methods including transesterification of acrylate esters with an N-substituted hydroxyethylamine or acrylation of the N-substituted hydroxyethylamine.
Abstract: A process for curing acid-curable resins with photocatalyst compounds having the general formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN M = 0, 1 OR 2 AND P IS AN INTEGER FROM 1 TO 5 AND WHEREIN, WHEN P IS 1, R represents an alkyl or alkoxy group having at least 4 C-atoms, and when p>1, R represents alkyl or alkoxy groups having together at least 4 C-atoms. The photocatalyst which may be used is 2,2,2-trichloro-4'-tert-butylacetacetophenone. This compound may be prepared by chlorinating 4'-tert-butylacetophenone or by treating tert-butyl benzene in carbon disulfide with trichloroacetyl chloride or trichloroacetonitrile and aluminum chloride.

Abstract: Crosslinking, e.g., by irradiation, of a polymer comprising poly(tetramethyleneterephthalate) is made possible by the addition of a member selected from the group consisting of triallyl cyanurate and N,N'-m-phenylenedimaleimide. The resulting crosslinked modified polymer may be rendered heat recoverable.
Abstract: The use of terminal trichlorinated, brominated or iodinated hydrocarbons as co-photoinitiators in combination with standard photoinitiators in ultraviolet curable coating compositions is disclosed.

Abstract: A carboxyl containing polymer is either prepared in the presence of a polyepoxide or reacted with a polyepoxide. The polymer has sufficient acid groups to react with only about 1 to 10 percent of the epoxide (oxirane) groups. The remaining epoxide groups are reacted with an unsaturated monocarboxylic acid such as acrylic or methacrylic acid to form a radiation curable resin.
Abstract: A multicomponent polymer blend composition is prepared by intimately mixing a polycarbonate, a selectively hydrogenated monoalkenyl arene-diene block copolymer, and at least one dissimilar engineering thermoplastic resin under such conditions that at least two of the polymers form at least partial continuous network phases which interlock with the other polymer networks and therefore results in a desirable balance of properties. These blends have an unobviously high heat distortion temperature relative to the improved impact strength.
