  • Patent number: 4907491
Abstract: The cylinder has a sealed back wall through which the rod passes. A piston assembly mounted on the rod between the back wall and a cylinder front end-piece contains a fluid-pressure-activated clamp. The front end-piece also has a clamp. By sequenced operation alternatively fixing the piston or the cylinder to the rod through the respective clamp, the relative travel of cylinder and rod can be extended to any desired length.

  • Patent number: 4907946
Abstract: An annular cast inner support member is concentrically mounted within an annual cast outer support member for mounting a plurality of radially extending outlet guide vanes within the flowpath of a gas turbine engine. The outlet guide vanes are resiliently connected to the inner and outer support members to control and limit the compressive loading of the outlet guide vanes caused by thermal stresses during engine operation. A resilient clamped interconnection which is particularly suitable for use with ceramic outlet guide vanes includes a bolted and clamped socket assembly which maintains both radial and circumferential compressive forces on the outlet guide vanes at all times, notwithstanding the differences in thermal growth rates between metal and ceramic materials.

  • Patent number: 4907492
Abstract: A piston is moveably arranged in a cylindrical bore of a housing and the piston rod extends through one end of the housing for connection to a unit to be controlled. A very high variable control rate of the piston is made possible by a control slide valve formed as a hollow cylinder that is moveable within a coaxial bore of the piston rod. The hollow, cylindrical, control slide valve contains a plurality of apertures that cooperate with ports formed in the piston rod that extends on either side of the piston. A chamber formed on one side of the piston is connected to a source of pressurized fluid and a chamber at the other side of the piston is connected to a return for such pressurized fluid. A control rod is connected to the control slide valve for moving same within the coaxial bore of the piston rod and by specially forming the guiding or leading edges of the apertures formed in the control slide valve, high variable control rates are possible.

  • Patent number: 4907945
Abstract: A side-channel compressor includes a rotor having transport blades, and an injection nozzle for introducing a cooling liquid into a transport section of the compressor. Damage to the transport blades by droplets of liquid can be avoided by the providing the injection nozzle at the part of the compressor housing forming the side channel. The injection nozzle directs the coolant into a side channel space which is free of the transport blades.

  • Patent number: 4905577
Abstract: A hydraulically-operated piston machine includes at least one cylinder and a piston axially movably guided in the cylinder. The piston is connected to a crankshaft or the like by means of a connecting rod. The connecting rod and the piston each have spherically-shaped bearing surfaces serving for connecting the connecting rod and the piston with each other in an articulated manner. The connecting rod defines at its end connected to the piston a radially outwardly facing spherical surface portion which is arranged concentrically with the spherical bearing surface of the connecting rod. The spherical surface portion rests against the surface of a recess defined in the piston, so that a hollow space is defined between the surface of the recess and the spherical surface portion. The piston defines a bore for effecting communication of fluids between the interior of the cylinder and the hollow space.

  • Patent number: 4905570
Abstract: There is described a power booster for actuating a master brake cylinder having a booster piston which is axially movable in a cylinder bore and which, with its peripheral surface, confines a pressure chamber connectible to a hydraulic pressure source and, with an end surface, confines a booster chamber that is connectible with a pressure chamber via a first closable valve passage. Via a second closable valve passage, the booster chamber is connectible with a compensating chamber connected to an unpressurized reservoir. The compensating chamber is bounded by the peripheral surface of a reaction piston and by a sleeve that is formed fast with the housing and encompasses the reaction piston. The second valve passage is disposed in a central bore in the reaction piston terminating into the booster chamber. Arranged in the central bore is an actuating rod which carries a valve element for closing the second valve passage and which extends into the first valve passage in the booster piston.

  • Patent number: 4905575
Abstract: A solid state pressure sensor utilizes a brittle diaphragm made of a material such as silicon, which is mounted between base plates of glass, and which deflects in response to pressure. The base plates of glass can have recesses formed therein to receive the diaphragm and provide a full support across the diaphragm under overpressure conditions to prevent overstressing the diaphragm, or the diaphragm can have such contoured surfaces for forming overpressure stop surfaces against the facing base plate. The diaphragm has grooves defining a central portion that deflects, and whereby the grooves will form webs joining the central portion to an outer rim so that the diaphragm acts similarly to a "free edge" diaphragm in its deflection characteristics. The grooves defining the webs can have various configurations for achieving the results desired.

  • Patent number: 4905977
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for accumulating sheets into a stack and for folding the stack with at least two folds into a "C" or "Z" letter fold. A continuously traveling conveyor travels past a plurality of sheet feeding stations. A sheet is removed from each station simultaneously and these sheets are transferred to a position over the conveyor, and they are stacked directly onto the previously deposited sheets on the conveyor so that simultaneously a sheet is added to each stack at a location opposite each station. Such stack is conveyed to a folding knife which folds the stack off center and leaves a larger unfold portion. At a second folding station, a folding device folds a second fold parallel to the first fold to complete a letter fold for the entire stack of sheets which folded stack is then discharged.

  • Patent number: 4905976
Abstract: The manipulator comprises a support structure 1 with a vice 5 vertically disposed capable of grasping a plate sheet 22 and carrying it to the press 23, the plate sheet performing a rigorously linear course. The support structure is intended to perform a rototranslatory motion, rotating around pivot 11 which is located corresponding to the extremity of the support structure opposite to the extremity in which the vice 5 is placed. This pivot slides along guide 13 which is located laterally with respect to the direction of advance of the plate, the direction of the guide being perpendicular with respect to the direction of advance of the plate. The energy required to transport the plate from the loading zone to the press is reduced to about one-half with respect to the energy required in similar devices of known type in which a support structure which carries the plate sheet from the loading zone to the press performs exactly the same course of the plate (see FIG. 3).
