  • Patent number: 4889470
Abstract: A compressor diaphragm assembly for combustion turbines includes a plurality of vane airfoils, each of which is formed with an integral inner shroud. A segmented seal carrier is suspended from the inner shrouds, and an outer ring supports the plurality of vane airfoils from a casing portion of the turbine in a parallel relationship at a predetermined angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the turbine. The outer ring has one or more grooves formed at the predetermined angle to engagably receive respective rows of the vane airfoils at their outer portion. Each seal carrier segment includes a pair of disc-engaging seals, and is formed to be engaged with the inner shrouds of one or more vane airfoils, in order to provide a labyrinth seal with discs assembled to form a rotating shaft.

  • Patent number: 4887513
Abstract: The present invention teaches a brake cylinder which is formed by a cylindrical housing and a cylinder base. The cylindrical housing and cylinder base are joined together by a bayonet connection and form a pressure chamber. The bayonet connection is designed pressure-tight, and it is located on the pressurized-side of a circular sealing element which seals off the cylinder base from the cylinder housing. The bayonet connection is thereby protected from the entry of detrimental environmental influences, especially dirt and moisture, and it can still be easily disassembled at all times.

  • Patent number: 4887519
Abstract: In expansion-controlled light alloy pistons for internal combustion engines, expansion control elements made of steel are bonded to the carrying portions of the cast skirt on the inside peripheral surface thereof and are embedded in the hubs of the piston pin bosses. To provide for an optimum expansion control action throughout the height of the piston skirt, the expansion control elements are provided on both sides of the plane of oscillation of the connecting rod with an aperture, which is open toward the end of the skirt and has a height amounting to at least 30% of the height of the expansion control elements. Said aperture has a peripheral dimension amounting to more than 10% of the piston diameter. Projections for supporting the expansion control element at its edges defining the aperture protrude into the latter.

  • Patent number: 4887514
Abstract: A housing of a reciprocating gas compressor comprises a partition member separating an upper suction chamber through which gas passes and a lower crankcase chamber in which a crankshaft rotates and which has an oil sump at the bottom. The partition member is imperforate except for sealed openings through which cylinder sleeves and hydraulic fluid lines extend between the chambers. A conduit located on the housing exterior and connected between the chambers performs three functions, namely: enables gas flow in either direction to effect pressure equalization; enables oil to flow by gravity from low points in the upper chamber into the sump; and enables oil mist in the gas flow through the conduit to coalesce on the inner walls of the conduit and flow by gravity into the sump.

  • Patent number: 4887515
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder apparatus is used by connecting an external pressure source with extension and contraction-side liquid chambers defined by a cylinder, a piston sliding in the cylinder and a piston rod integral with the piston. The apparatus includes seal members provided with the extension and contraction-side liquid chambers and formed to enable liquid to leak through clearances between the seal members and the parts disposed opposite to the seal members. Liquid leaked from the extension and contraction-side liquid chambers is received by a receiving chamber which is formed so as to change its volume with the movement of the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4885982
Abstract: A vacuum-type brake booster device for automotive use having a shape such that the mounting of the booster device and surrounding components inside the engine compartment of the vehicle is markedly eased. The shell of the booster device, and hence the diaphragm contained therein, has the shape in the plane of the diaphragm of a circle having a peripheral segment thereof removed. This causes the effective center of the diaphragm to be shifted from the center of the circle. The input and output shafts and the master cylinder are mounted on the shell aligned with the offset effective center of the diaphragm.

  • Patent number: 4885910
Abstract: In a tandem master cylinder, the primary and secondary outlet-pressure spaces of which are respectively limited in the axial direction by the push-rod or primary piston and a secondary piston designed as a floating piston or by the latter and an end wall fixed relative to the housing. A restoring spring urging the secondary piston into its basic position is arranged in a central cavity located in the secondary piston which is limited by a blind bore of the latter. The restoring spring is supported on the piston side on the inner face of the bottom of a pot-shaped supporting projection facing toward the primary piston and belonging to the secondary piston and, on the housing side, on a radial stop pin passing through a longitudinal slot of an intermediate part of the secondary piston extending between the two piston flanges which form the respective pressure-tight displaceable limitation of the secondary outlet-pressure space on the one hand and of the primary outlet-pressure space on the other hand.

  • Patent number: 4886418
Abstract: A single stage axial blower design provides a series of blowers producing a wide range of delivery flow rates even though they have the same outer dimension, drive speed and guide wheel. This is achieved by a structural combination which includes a stationary guide vane wheel (5) of fixed design and impellers (8) which have varying hub diameters (9, 9a, 9b) but the same outer diameter. Thus, a series of blowers having the same external dimensions and the same stationary guide vane structure can be used with a series of air-cooled internal combustion engines which differ from one another in number of cylinders and related cooling requirements.

  • Patent number: 4886260
Abstract: A conveyor device which is equipped with grippers secured to a chain structure is arranged beneath a rotary bucket or fan wheel of a printing machine, typically a printing press. These grippers engage trailing edges of the printed products which still abut against at least one stripper wheel. The printed products are thus fixedly retained before departing from the rotary bucket or fan wheel. By means of a revolvingly driven belt, which engages at the trailing edges of the printed products, these printed products are displaced or stuffed into the associated compartment or bucket of the rotary bucket or fan wheel prior to their engagement by the grippers. The printed products thus assume a defined position within the compartments or buckets, thus rendering possible the subsequent positionally-correct removal of the printed products from the compartments or buckets of the rotary bucket or fan wheel.

  • Patent number: 4885979
Abstract: A braking-power booster including a valve for controlling the pressure that acts upon the booster piston. The valve has two radially spaced valve seats, which both face toward and seal off against a valve sealing plate. With the radially inward valve seat off the valve plate, air passes through the valve. A silencer in the form of a screen is arranged directly alongside the radially inward seat that is opened off the plate. Upon air passing through the valve, the screen suppresses noise generated in the valve. The screen is of a round-wire netting, comprised of brass wire that is galvanized. The screen has a cup-shape, and its convex side faces the seat.
