  • Patent number: 4902201
Abstract: A rupture prevention ring consists of two coaxially arranged, spaced-apart stiff end rings wrapped in several layers of fiber cloth. Resin bonding is used around the end rings while in the intermediate area between the end rings, the fibers are not free of resin and hence not stiffened. Owing to the high energy absorption capability of the structure including the elastic yielding of the fibers without the resin, an excellent containment ability is obtained at a low weight. Fragments are effectively retained without jeopardizing the rotating blade and disk assembly of the damaged stage.

  • Patent number: 4901994
Abstract: In a copying apparatus having a sorter with a sheet stapling function; the sorter has a plurality of bins capable of independently moving up or down, wherein sheets are sorted into the bins sequentially from the top bin to the bottom bin; the bins are moved down to a position where sheets are taken by take-out rollers for transporting them to a stapling unit after the sorting operation; and the bins other than those assigned for the number of copy sets are moved down to the take-out position during the sorting operation. Further, a copying apparatus has a controller which inhibits a copying machine from starting to operate when both a non-sorting mode and a stapling mode are selected at a time and when the input number of copy sets is more than 2, and may cancel the stapling mode during the sorting operation in the stapling mode and continue the sorting operation even after canceling the stapling mode.

  • Patent number: 4900222
Abstract: A rotary pump with an inlet flow duct having a convergent section upstream the tips of the rotor blades. The convergent section decreases the cross-sectional flow area of the inlet flow duct prior to the flow being introduced into the rotor, thereby creating a substantially uniform velocity profile in the flow just upstream the rotor blades.

  • Patent number: 4900001
Abstract: A computerized printing system particularly advantageous with word processing and data retrieval with personal computers prints pages on both sides of sheets carried as a continuous web for collation of the sheets with the printed pages counting those on opposite sides of the sheets in numerically ordered sequence when stacked in a fan-fold type array. Printed pages are printed on both sides of the web, and batches of two consecutive pages are alternately printed on the opposite sides of the web. Corresponding data processing and organization means provide for organizing, printing and collating the data, which can process fan-fold type webs directly to produce pages stacked with pages on both sides of the separable web sheets oriented in the same direction in numerical sequence.

  • Patent number: 4899640
Abstract: A hydraulic booster has a boost piston (19) which receives the thrust of boost pressure generated in a boost chamber (15) to move the boost piston for urging a master piston (12) of a master cylinder in a brake applying direction. An input member (17) is relatively movably with respect to the boost piston (19). A pressure regulating device has an input directional control valve (22, 45) for allowing or cutting off communication between the boost chamber (15) and an auxiliary power source (14). An output directional control valve (24, 46) establishes or cuts off communication between the boost chamber (15) and a reserve tank (9). The boost piston (19), the input member (17) and the pressure regulating device are arranged inside a housing (1). An input member positioning device brings the rear end of the input member (17) into contact with a stop member (51) which is anchored to the housing (1), when a pedal force is zero for stopping a rearward movement of the input member.

  • Patent number: 4899643
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder (1) with a piston (5) made completely or partially of electrically conductive material comprises at least one opening (19, 20) for the mounting of an electric position indicator (21, 22). The openings (19, 20) are closed in a liquid and pressure-proof manner towards the interior of the cylinder (1) by means of circular plate-shaped bodies (17, 18) glued to the inner surface of the cylinder (1). As the plate-shaped bodies (17, 18) are made of a ceramic material, preferably steatite, they may allow passage of the magnetic field transmitted from the electric position indicators (21, 22). The openings (19, 20) are adapted in the end covers (2, 3) of the cylinder (1) for the determination of the end positions of the piston (5). Furthermore the cylinder may be provided with piston-braking means in the form of seal rings (12, 13).

  • Patent number: 4898373
Abstract: A quarter folder machine for accepting half fold signatures and converting them into quarter signatures. The machine receives half signatures in an incoming shingle running at relatively low velocity, strips and accelerates the signatures to travel seriatim in a high speed stream which passes through camming and crimping means to create the quarter fold. A decelerating and re-shingling section then converts the stream back into an output shingle which runs at relatively low linear velocity but at a high rate in terms of signatures per hour--for transport to some subsequent processing device. The machine is characterized by a very high throughput rate. It is flexibly adjustable to match to the velocity of and setback of an incoming shingle from various sources, and yet to determine by choice the setback and velocity of the output shingle.

  • Patent number: 4898083
Abstract: A piston head and rod assembly for use, for example, in a gear pump dry valve is disclosed. A cylindrical piston head is provided with a generally oval-shaped cavity formed therein which defines a minor diameter. The cavity opens through one end of the piston head. However, a portion of the opening is blocked by a radially inwardly-extending lip. The lip defines an opening diameter which is smaller than the minor diameter of the cavity. An end portion of a piston rod includes a reduced diameter neck portion and an enlarged diameter tail portion. The neck portion has an outer diameter which is slightly smaller than the opening diameter defined by the lip, while the tail portion has an outer diameter which is slightly smaller than the minor diameter defined by the cavity. To assemble, the tail portion of the piston rod is inserted through the portion of the opening of the piston head which is not blocked by the lip into the cavity.
