  • Patent number: 5129253
Abstract: A coating is applied to the outside diameter surface of a bushing used to coldwork in a hole in a work piece. The bushing having the coating is positioned and fixed axially with respect to the hole and then expanded by an expansion mandrel with the coating on the outside diameter surface of the bushing coming into contact with the walls of the hole and the hole being coldworked. The coating reduces fretting of the coldworked joint thereby increasing the fatigue life of the joint. The bushing having the coating can be easily removed, and then replaced, by boring out the old bushing since the coating provides a margin of machining error and thereby protects the walls of the hole.

  • Patent number: 5127132
Abstract: Each of two identical hinge plates has projecting from one longitudinal side edge thereof four, spaced, coaxially aligned barrels, two of which have therethrough coaxial bores, and each of the other two of which has a reduced-diameter cylindrical pin projecting from one end thereof. The four barrels of each plate are arranged so that the two barrels containing bores are consecutive or adjacent to each other, and the two barrels bearing the cylindrical pins are adjacent to each other. A hinge is assembled by inserting the pins of each hinge plate coaxially and rotatably into the barrel bores in the other plate. Thereafter a locking element may be inserted between a pair of adjacent barrels to prevent accidental disengagement of the cylindrical pins from the barrel bores.

  • Patent number: 5125216
Abstract: A packaging machine comprises a strip feeder (13) and tube former (14) for heat-welding plastic film strip into a tube. First welding apparatus (15) weld between them the side edges of the strip while a feed line (11) inputs into the tube thus formed products (12) that are to be packaged. Second weld apparatus (16) welds transversely of the tube at intervals to isolate each product in a section of the tube, thus realizing the packaging. Characteristically the first (15) and second (16) welding apparatus are pressed against the strip parts to be welded by an actuator (33, 34, 36, 37, 44, 43) controlled by a control device (46) to exert a pressure which is a function of the speed of travel of the strip.

  • Patent number: 5125131
Abstract: A locking hinge mechanism (10) that includes a hinge (10a) comprising an articulated axle (28) rotatably attached to first and second members (22,24) such that the operation of the hinge mechanism (10a) causes the members (22,24 ) to controllably move in a first or opening direction and a second or closing direction. The hinge (10a) comprises a fixed locking member (36), and a movable locking member (46) coaxially disposed relative to the fixed locking member (36). A bias mechanism (48) is coupled to the movable locking member (46) that causes it to interlockably engage the fixed locking member (b 36) such that the hinge (10a) causes the first and second members (22, 24) to freely move in one direction. A disengagement mechanism (38, 40) is coupled to the movable locking member (46) to disengage it from the fixed locking member (36) so that the first and second members (22, 24) may freely move in either direction.

  • Patent number: 5123232
Abstract: An upright immersion tube (92) is movable back and forth in its longitudinal direction between a takeover position in which a bushy plant (10) can be introduced into the immersion tube (92) and an immersed position in which the immersion tube is plunged through a spreader tube (40) into the vicinity of the bottom of a bag (12) which is being held open. The immersion tube (92) has a rear semi-tubular portion (96) with a hinged flap which is open in the takeover position but adapted to be moved into a closing position as the immersion tube (92) moves into the immersed position and, in said closing position, supplements the rear portion (96) so as to form a closed tube section. The spreader tube (40) has the profile contour of a ship's hull and engages between projecting bag edge zones (16) of a film web forming the bags (12) and being movable stepwise in the longitudinal direction of this contour.

  • Patent number: 5119657
Abstract: Draw processing flat-rolled sheet metal substrate preselectively precoated on each surface with organic coating and draw lubricant into one-piece can bodies ready for assembly into sanitary packs free of any requirement for washing, organic coating or repair of organic coating after fabrication and before such direct usage. Selective organic precoating includes embodying a blooming compound which is made available as draw lubricant responsive to heat and/or pressure of draw forming; also, surface application of a draw lubricant after curing of the organic coating. Combined lubricant on each surface is verified before start of fabricating. Draw-forming of tensile strength sheet metal is controlled over side wall height by clamping solely between planar clamping surfaces and by interruption of draw to establish a flange at the open end of cup-shaped work product.
