  • Patent number: 4625398
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically manufacturing a bidirectionally openable slide fastener includes a pin attachment unit for attaching a pin to an end of one of a pair of slide fastener stringers, a pair of first and second slider attachment units for attaching first and second sliders, respectively, to the stringers, and a box pin attachment unit for attaching a box pin to an end of the other slide fastener stringer. The slide fastener stringers are fed by a gripper mechanism along a feed path as the pin, the sliders, and the box pin are successively attached to the slide fastener stringers. Finally, the slide fastener stringers are cut off by a cutter unit into a bidirectionally openable slide fastener of a desired length.

  • Patent number: 4625382
Abstract: A method of forming a so-called space where fastener elements have been removed from a slide fastener chain in which fastener elements of synthetic resin have been woven into the edges of fastener tapes comprising disengaging right and left stringers from each other, setting each stringer on a working bed, keeping fixed all fastener elements in the space forming area of each stringer on the working bed by respective press pieces at their engaging heads, cutting at least the connecting threads extending through the legs of each fastener element at the front and rear end of the space forming area of each stringer, then pulling the fastener tapes away from the respective press pieces and thus pulling out the binding warp threads, core string and connecting threads from the fastener elements, so as to remove the fastener elements from each fastener tape and keep the binding warp threads, core string and connecting threads extended along the space forming area in the weft loops.

  • Patent number: 4622732
Abstract: A joint assembly for use with pressurized fluid systems employs a tube that is secured to a ferrule, preferably by hydraulic swaging. During the swaging operation, a projecting end of the tube can be expanded against a die and thereby pre-sized. A sealing ring is then placed on the projecting end of the tube and enclosed within a cavity formed when a fitting is secured to the ferrule by a retainer. A spring that energizes the seal can be included in the cavity. The seal is formed between concentric circumferential surfaces and is independent of axial movement of the joint elements. A metal-to-metal backup seal can be formed by the ferrule and the fitting.

  • Patent number: 4621402
Abstract: The invention pertains to a process and a device for the assembly of universal joints. In order to reduce the defect of center misalignment of the joint parts with respect to each other which characterized the joints after assembly, the center misalignment resulting from different pressing forces on the bearings and from other manufacturing tolerances are measured according to the invention during assembly, whereupon appropriate corrective forces are generated to eliminate the misalignment of the centers.

  • Patent number: 4620354
Abstract: A method of using a robot to apply a weatherstrip to a flange extending about an opening in a vehicle body wherein the weatherstrip is coiled on an end effector which in turn unwinds and rolls the weatherstrip onto the flange starting from a predetermined starting position on the flange to a stop position a predetermined distance short of the starting position. The unwound weatherstrip is lifted away from the flange at the stop position and then held and cut-off at a point determined by the above-mentioned predetermined distance so that the weatherstrip being applied to the flange will then abut end-to-end whereafter the cut end of the weatherstrip is retrieved and applied to the flange.

  • Patent number: 4616393
Abstract: An apparatus and method for rolling metal matrix composite material is disclosed. The material is confined within an aperture in a frame member during the rolling process. The frame member has deformation properties compatible with that of the metal matrix composite material permitting the frame member to be deformed during the rolling process and allowing the surfaces defining the aperture in the frame member to constrain the material during this process, thus eliminating edge cracking of the material. The frame member may be interposed between a top member and a bottom member both having deformation properties compatible with that of the metal matrix composite material so as to "encapsulate" the material during the rolling process.

  • Patent number: 4615093
Abstract: The present method and apparatus provide a possibility to remove components from a magazine, from a storage bin or the like, to transport these components to a workpiece and to put these components onto the workpiece or into it precisely at a preselected position. The component which has been picked-up by and is retained by the transportation member will usually not be in a exactly preselected position with regard to the gripping means of the transportation device, but will be more or less shifted and/or tilted with regard to a theoretical, nominal positioning axis. In order to determine the actual position of the component retained by the gripping means, the component is brought to a position scanning station during its transportation from the magazine or storage bin to the workpiece. The scanning station measures and records the actual position of the component, e.g.
