Abstract: A method for controlling a television system including a television device and a controller device includes: detecting a fingerprint; analyzing the fingerprint to obtain an input fingerprint identification containing information regarding the fingerprint; identifying a pre-stored fingerprint identification matching the input fingerprint identification, and identifying a user-profile associated with the pre-stored fingerprint identification; and controlling operation of the television device based on the identified user-profile. The user-profile includes one or more of an age of the user, a channel list, a preset signal source, a preset video quality, and a preset audio quality.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes a system receiving, from a third-party system, a first request to publish a live video. The system may receive a second request for content from a user device and, in response, transmit display instructions and one or more network addresses from which the live video and an interface application are available. The display instructions may be configured to cause the user device to: configure a video player application to display the live video obtained using at least one of the one or more network addresses; and configure the interface application, obtained using at least one of the one or more network addresses, to be displayed over at least a portion of the live video and to communicate with the third-party computing system.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method receives a request for a channel offered by a video delivery service from a user and generates user information for the user. In response to receiving the request, the method sends a query to a database to retrieve a bundle that includes an audience definition that matches the user information. A bundle identifies a source stream for a program and only one bundle for a time slot is returned for the query from multiple bundles for the channel that exist for the time slot. A manifest is constructed for the channel using the bundle where the manifest identifies content from the source stream of the bundle. The method then provides portions of the manifest to a client device for the user to allow the client device to request content from the source stream for the channel.

Abstract: A media content management system that enables users to manage media content collections is disclosed. A media device is configured to receive requests to create media content collections for particular media content and, in response, to retrieve information related to the media content, and to generate one or more interfaces displaying information about created media content collections. In an embodiment, retrieving information related to a media content may include determining, for one or more episodes of the media content, whether the episode is available from various content sources, including both broadcast and broadband content sources. By enabling a media device to automatically retrieve and present information related to the availability of media content episodes across any number of different broadcast and broadband sources, users can more easily interact with and view information about particular media content of interest to the users.

Abstract: Systems and methods described herein relate to detecting the existence of unauthorized content in multiuser composite media stream. In particular, multiuser composite media streams can be examined and to determine if these composite streams include unauthorized content such as copyrighted content or nudity, violence, language violations where desired. The multiuser composite media stream can be partitioned into sections associated with broadcasting users and the portions can be analyzed independently. A notification can be provided to, e.g., the broadcasting user responsible for the unauthorized content in response to detection of the unauthorized content.

Abstract: Controlling the display of notifications to a television viewer based on a contextual parameter that is associated with programming instantly being viewed. An example of such a parameter may include the degree of tension or conflict in a particular movie that is being watched by the television viewer. In this example, a television reciever may monitor during output of the particular movie underlying metadata that quantifies the degree of tension or conflict in the particular movie at particular instants in time.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for IP-based hybrid 3DTV content transmission and reception. According to one aspect of the present disclosure, an IP-based hybrid 3DTV content reception apparatus includes: a receiving unit receiving multiplexed 3DTV content information; an additional data obtaining unit obtaining service layer signaling information from the received 3DTV content information, and obtaining additional data based on the obtained service layer signaling information; a decoding unit decoding the received 3DTV content information by using the obtained additional data; and a playing back unit playing back the decoded 3DTV content.

Abstract: A configuration by which application control in which an application control message is applied can be executed with certainty is implemented. A transmission apparatus transmits event notification data in which an application control message (ACM) is stored as event data to a reception apparatus. An application controlling unit of the reception apparatus executes application control based on the ACM stored as event data in the event notification message. The event notification data is stored in an MPD that is signaling data or in a segment that is data for transmission of an AV content, and the reception apparatus can acquire the ACM from the MPD or the segment and perform rapid application control.

Abstract: A television with an interactive portal and system and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the television, the television is deployed to provide an interactive portal in a hospitality establishment having multiple rooms, such as a hotel. The television is associated with a room and includes a processor, memory, tuner, panel, and audio drive disposed in an interconnected busing architecture. The television generates a default interactive portal as well as a guest-specific interactive portal, which is generated from a guest configuration profile having information including guest identification, a guest channel preference presentation, and a guest service preference presentation with guest account information. The guest configuration profile may also enable the creation of a local area wireless network with substantially the same behavior as the guest's home wireless network.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method receives a video and information for entities that appear in the video. The video is played in a media player without displaying a queue configured to display one or more entities. When an input is received to display the queue while playing the video, the method performs: determining a set of entities in relation to a time associated with playing the video using the information for the entities that appear in the video and displaying the set of entities in the queue, wherein the video continues to play in the media player while the queue is displayed.

Abstract: A hospitality property management tool and system and method for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the system, the system includes a set-top box located in a room at a hospitality establishment having multiple rooms. The set-top box stores various types of set-top box data and transmits the set-top box data to a remote server. The remote server receives and stores the set-top box data. The server may render a map view of the hospitality establishment based on obtained map data. The map view may include a graphical representation of the room and other rooms at the hospitality establishment. The server may annotate the graphical representation of the room with at least a portion of the set-top box data.

Abstract: Exposing consumers to content of secondary interest via a content distribution network is becoming increasingly difficult as Video on Demand gains popularity and consumers isolate themselves from secondary content, including: new programs, emergency alerts, etc. Additionally, ensuring that the consumers are consuming secondary content that is provided to them via the content distribution network poses technical difficulties for the service provider. Therefore, systems and methods that encourage consumers to consume secondary content and verify its consumption non-intrusively are of increasing importance to service providers. Providing consumers with the ability to opt in and out of tracking and verification for the promotion of content allows consumers to be provided secondary content and for the service provider to appropriately reward the consumers for consuming the content to encourage additional consumption of secondary content.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing interactive live broadcast programming. A system includes an ingest server, a show creation server, and a streaming server. The ingest server is configured to receive, from at least one client device, one or more user generated responses to interaction prompts associated with a live broadcast program and process the received one or more responses for content and/or compatibility with the live broadcast program and store the processed response in a database. The show creation server is configured to generate a segment to be added to an interactive live program by generating a playlist. The streaming server is configured to transcode the interactive live program with the segment into at least one format suitable for display on the display associated with the client device, and transmit the transcoded interactive live program to the respective client device for display.

Abstract: The invention relates to encapsulating tiled timed media data in a server and providing a timed media data bit-stream from encapsulated tiled timed media in a client device. The tiled timed media data comprises timed samples and each timed sample comprises a plurality of spatial subsamples. After having selected at least one spatial subsample from amongst the plurality of spatial subsamples of one of the timed samples, one tile track comprising the selected spatial subsample and one corresponding spatial subsample of each of the other timed samples is created for each selected spatial subsample. One composite track comprising at least one extractor identifying at least one of the created tile tracks is created. Each created track is independently encapsulated in at least one media segment file.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention, relating to the field of desktop cloud applications, provide a desktop-cloud-based media control method and a device, so as to reduce a bandwidth occupied by transmission of a multimedia data stream in a media control process. The method includes: acquiring, by a client, a multimedia data stream, displaying the multimedia data stream, receiving a control instruction sent by a cloud server, and performing a corresponding control operation on the displayed multimedia data stream according to the control instruction. The method embodiment is used for media control.

Abstract: A distribution system and reception apparatus, and methods thereof, are provided for broadcasting and receiving a plurality of first services from a plurality of different broadcast providers, which broadcast a plurality of second services over a plurality of different broadcast channels, on a transition broadcast channel that is different from the plurality of different broadcast channels. The system includes at least one receiver and a transmitter. The at least one receiver is configured to receive the plurality of first services from the plurality of different broadcast providers. The transmitter is configured to broadcast the plurality of first services over the transition broadcast channel.

Abstract: Subscriptions for object updates to be transmitted to a client device may be dynamically managed based on the occurrence of one or more trigger events at the client device, which causes the client device to transmit subscription modification requests to a computing platform configured to dynamically maintain object subscription lists for each of one or more client devices based at least in part on subscription modification requests received from each of the one or more client devices, to determine whether subscribed objects for a particular client device are current at the client device, and to transmit updates of subscribed objects in real-time upon determining that the particular client device does not comprise current object data.

Abstract: Various implementations provide an improved advertisement model that enables users to skip advertisements based on an advertisement-watching score. That is, as a user watches advertisements or, in some cases, portions of advertisements, an advertisement-watching score is computed. The more advertisements that a user watches, the higher their advertisement-watching score will be. When the user's advertisement-watching score reaches or exceeds a certain threshold, the user is provided with an option to skip subsequent advertisements so that they can consume their content in a generally uninterrupted manner. When an advertisement is skipped, the user's advertisement-watching score is decreased by an amount. If the user's advertisement-watching score is decreased to below the threshold, the user cannot skip additional advertisements until the advertisement-watching score again reaches or exceeds the threshold.

Abstract: In one aspect, an example method includes (i) selecting, by a computing system, a media content item from a set of multiple media content items; (ii) identifying, by the computing system, a set of operations that a media production system and/or a media broadcast system performed in connection with the selected media content item; (iii) for each operation in the identified set of operations, determining, by the computing system, a respective operation score; (iv) using, by the computing system, the one or more determined operation scores to determine a media content item score of the selected media content item; (v) repeating (i)-(iv) above for each remaining media content item in the set of multiple media content items; and (vi) displaying a reference to each media content item in the set of multiple media content items, wherein the displayed references are arranged based on the determined media content item scores.
