Abstract: A method for providing of a portion or segment of content extracted from a larger content, for example, for sharing with users as a clip of the larger segment of content or as an action replay. One particular method of providing a portion of content includes receiving data including the content; transmitting the received data; storing a portion of the received data corresponding to a given time period; and responsive to a request, block transmitting the stored portion of the received data stream.

Abstract: A video production server comprising at least one processor and a storage is suggested. Software modules composed of executable program code are loaded into a working memory of the at least one processor. Each software module, when executed by the at least one processor, provides an elementary service. A concatenation of elementary services provides for a functionality involving processing of video and/or audio signals needed for producing a broadcast program. The video production server includes a set of software components that runs on conventional hardware. Each functionality of the video production server is achieved by using a specific piece of software that is assembled from reusable functional software blocks and that can run on any compatible hardware platform. Furthermore, a method for operating the video production server and a distributed video production system including the video production server is suggested.

Abstract: A method of transmitting at least one broadcast signal in a digital transmitter is discussed. The method includes generating service layer signaling (SLS) information for at least one broadcast service, the at least one broadcast service consisting of at least one continuous video component, at least one continuous audio component and at least one closed caption component; generating a service list table (SLT) for providing bootstrap information that allows a receiver to discover the SLS information for the at least one broadcast service. Further, the bootstrap information includes a destination IP address and a destination port of a MPEG media transport protocol (MMTP) session carrying MMTP-specific SLS; and transmitting the at least one broadcast signal.

Abstract: Techniques for conditional presentation of auxiliary information are provided. In one example, a computer-implemented method comprises determining, by a device operatively coupled to a processor, feedback information for a user in response to a media presentation, wherein the feedback information is indicative of a mental state of the user during presentation of the media presentation. The computer-implemented method can further comprise determining content of the media presentation associated with the mental state of the user, and determining auxiliary information about the content based on the mental state of the user. The computer-implemented method can further comprise providing, by the device, the content to a user device during the presentation of the media presentation and for rendering at the user device in association with presentation of the content.

In one embodiment of the set-top box, the set-top box is deployed to provide an interactive portal in a hospitality establishment having multiple rooms, such as a hotel. The set-top box is associated with a room and includes a housing that secures a television input, a television output, a processor, a transceiver, and memory therein in an interconnected bus architecture. The set-top box generates a guest interactive portal as well as a housekeeping interactive portal for a guest and housekeeper, respectively. Each of the portals provides relevant feedback on the condition of the room to a server associated with the hotel.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide an apparatus that includes interface circuitry and processing circuitry. The interface circuitry is configured to receive signals carrying metadata for visual track composition from multiple visual tracks. The visual track composition includes alpha compositing, and can include spatial compositing and background compositing. The processing circuitry is configured to parse the metadata to extract configuration information for the visual track composition. Further, the processing circuitry receives a first sample from a first visual track and a second sample from a second visual track, and combines the first sample with the second sample to generate a composite sample based on the configuration information for the visual track composition.

The set-top box generates a default interactive portal as well as a guest-specific interactive portal, which is generated from a guest configuration profile having information including guest identification, a guest channel preference presentation, and a guest service preference presentation with guest account information. The guest configuration profile may also enable the creation of a local area wireless network with substantially the same behavior as the guest's home wireless network.

Abstract: Methods and systems to insert advertisements and/or other supplemental or replacement content into a stream of video content are described. In some example embodiments, the methods and systems receive a request to replace a portion of video content currently playing at a client device with supplemental video content, such as an advertisement. In response to the request, the methods and systems determine one or more fingerprints of the video content plating at the client device, identify one or more frames of the video content at which to insert the supplemental video content based on the one or more fingerprints, and insert the supplemental video content at the identified one or more frames of the video content.

Abstract: A device includes a processor configured to process a first sample of a first track having a first composition time, determine whether a second track that is associated with the first track has an available sample at the first composition time, when the second track has the available sample at the first composition time, select the available sample of the second track as a second sample having a common composition time with the first composition time of the first sample, when the second track does not have the available sample at the first composition time, select a sample of the second track having a composition time that is a closest available preceding composition time as the second sample having the common composition time with the first composition time of the first sample, and in response to selecting the second sample, process the second sample.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods to identify media using watermarks and signatures are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a watermark evaluator to determine a time and a category indicated by a watermark detected in the media and a window generator to determine a search window based on the time indicated by the watermark. The example apparatus also includes a signature comparator to compare a query signature having a time value within the search window with a subset of reference signatures associated with the category to identify the media, the query signature generated from the media, the subset set of reference signatures generated from reference media associated with the category.

Abstract: There is provided a decoding apparatus that includes a wireless communication unit configured to establish a wireless connection with a plurality of encoding apparatuses, a decoding unit configured to decode pieces of content received from the plurality of encoding apparatuses via the wireless communication unit, a reproduction unit configured to reproduce the plurality of pieces of content decoded by the decoding unit, and a control unit configured to control an encoding condition of each of the plurality of encoding apparatuses for content in a manner that a required decoding capability required by a set of the pieces of content to be reproduced by the reproduction unit does not exceed an actual decoding capability of the decoding unit.

Abstract: Advertisements are delivered with videos, the advertisements being cued to begin based on an analysis of metadata associated with the videos such as moments identified from user-submitted comments relative to the video. Credit earned by users based on their viewing and engagement activities may be gifted to other users or applied towards baseline fees assessed in connection with videos delivered to the user.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for delivery of one or more channels of programming in an IP network. An edge gateway device may retrieve segments of programming, based on information in a manifest file, and output the segments via multicast to one or more edge devices. Advertising content may be inserted, or replaced if already present, before the segments are multicast. Segments encoded at various bit rates may be available for retrieval. Segments may be selected for retrieval based in part on a quality indicator associated with each segment.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system and method for recommending dynamic, adaptive and non-sequentially assembled videos. The method includes reception of a set of preference data and a set of user authentication data. The method includes development of an interest profile of the user. The method includes fetching of the one or more tagged videos. The method includes fragmentation of each tagged video into the one or more tagged fragments and segregation of one or more mapped fragments into one or more logical sets of mapped fragments. The method includes mining of semantic context information from each mapped fragment and each logical set of mapped fragments. The method includes clustering of the one or more logical sets of mapped fragments and assembling of the one or more logical clusters of mapped fragments to obtain a set of assembled videos. The method includes recommendation of the set of assembled videos.

Abstract: A method adjusts a broadcasting system according to properties of content being broadcast. One or more processors receive a proposed content that is designed to be a component of an electronic broadcast by a broadcast system. The processor(s) determine a broadcast analysis pattern (BAP) for the proposed content, where the BAP describes the proposed content and an intended target of the electronic broadcast. The processor(s) retrieve a set of rules that describe a tone and format for particular content that is broadcast to the intended target, and determine whether the proposed content conforms to the set of rules. In response to determining that the proposed content does not conform to the set of rules, the processor(s) adjust the broadcasting system, where adjusting the broadcasting system modifies how content is broadcast to the intended target.

Abstract: An example includes monitoring a media stream for a break of the media stream, the media stream being received by a media client; detecting the break of the media stream, where detection of the break indicates that supplemental content is to be provided during the break; sending a request for supplemental content information to a supplemental content server; receiving the supplemental content information for the break from the supplemental content server, the supplemental content information being based on the location of the media client; streaming the supplemental content to the media client within a supplemental content stream; and sending a notification to the media client, the notification including information that enables the media client to access the supplemental content stream during the break of the media stream based on the notification.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods are disclosed for correcting systematic tuning defects. An example apparatus includes a defect analyzer to identify a suspect time window in tuning volume data of return path data reported by set top boxes. The example apparatus further includes a return path data transformer to identify a first return path data entry indicating a first set top box reported a first transition to an off state at a first time during the suspect time window and to modify the first return path data entry to (1) eliminate the first transition to the off state at the first time and (2) assign the first return path data entry a first duration to remain in an on state after the first time, where the first duration is determined based on monitoring data reported from media device meters monitoring media presentation devices.
