  • Patent number: 5421178
Abstract: A device is provided for use in actuating a locking lug in a cylindrical lockset. The device includes a mechanism for moving the locking device between door handle locking and unlocking positions. The moving mechanism includes a plunger having an axis, a locking-assist spring coupled to the plunger and the locking lug, and a mechanism for reciprocating the plunger along its axis in opposite directions. To lock the cylindrical lockset, the reciprocating mechanism moves the plunger along its axis in a locking direction against the locking-assist spring so that the locking-assist spring is moved toward the locking lug to urge the locking lug to its door handle-locking position. To unlock the cylindrical lockset, the reciprocating mechanism moves the plunger along its axis in an opposite, unlocking direction away from the locking lug so that the locking lug is allowed to move to its door handle-unlocking position.

  • Patent number: 5421177
Abstract: The security tag (10) has a housing (11) and a clasp (12), which can move longitudinally therein, in the manner of a padlock. In its closed position, a piston (20), which is prestressed by a spring (21), engages into a gap or interruption (15) in the clasp (12). In order to open the clasp (12), a reduced-pressure source, which raises the piston (20), is placed onto a projection (28), so that the said piston releases the clasp (12). The use of a reduced-pressure source exacerbates the unauthorized opening of the security tag.

  • Patent number: 5417093
Abstract: A lock to prevent theft of a marine propeller assembly having a cylindrical shaped housing on which are exteriorly mounted a series of propeller blades, with the open end of the propeller housing being flared outwardly, the assembly further being mountable to a propeller shaft by means of a retaining nut. The propeller lock substantially covers the open end of the propeller assembly and effectively prevents access to the retaining nut and therefore prevents theft of the assembly. The lock has a flat, generally circular shaped face section, with a relatively short wall depending from the perimeter of the face section. The circular shaped face section is formed of two semi-circular sections with the two semi-circular sections being hinged at an edge so they can be closed to form the circular section or opened to form the two semi-circular sections. The depending relatively short wall is angled at an acute inwardly toward the center of the generally circular shaped face section.

  • Patent number: 5413392
Abstract: A pawl assembly is adapted for being mounted in an aperture formed in a door panel for releasably retaining the door against a corresponding frame. The pawl assembly includes as portions thereof a housing which is received within the door panel aperture. The housing is formed having its distal end being conical in shape which allows a mounting nut to be mounted onto the pawl assembly when received in the door panel aperture. A drive member is included which is received within an axial bore formed in the housing and is adapted for rotational movement by an operator. A pawl is secured to the drive member in only one orientation of the pawl in relation to the drive member. The drive member rotation is limited by a protruding member which extends from the housing and into the drive member. The drive member is also included with a flange which is sized at least to completely cover the top of housing which provides a seal for restricting the passage of water, dust and other matter.

  • Patent number: 5413401
Abstract: An infant-restraining protective seat (1) includes a seat back (3) tiltably attached to the body (7) of a seat portion via a turning shaft (20), with the seat portion (2) and seat back (3) being foldable. A torsion spring (54) is interposed between the body (7) of he seat portion and the seat back (3). The torsion spring (54) is adapted to assume a free state when an upper hook pin (52) is at an .alpha. position. Under these conditions, the seat back (3) is capable of tilting forward to .beta. under its own weight. When the seat back 3 is tilted in the direction of .beta., shock is mitigated by the torsion spring (54). When the seat back (3) is tilted toward .gamma. and .delta., half-latching and play in the back-and-forth direction are prevented. When the infant-restraining protective seat (1) is not in use, the protective seat is folded up to reduce its size and can then be stored. The seat (1) can be carried about and set up on a vehicle seat much more easily.

  • Patent number: 5409276
Abstract: A closure fastener comprising a hasp and a cooperating staple. The hasp is slidably engageable with a mount and the staple is slidably engageable with another mount. Upon coupling the hasp and the staple and applying a lock thereto, the hasp and the staple are captively retained such that the two are prevented from disengaging from their respective mounts. Alternatively, the hasp and the staple are provided with a hook and the mounts each include a biasing mechanism to bias the hooks into engagement with their respective mounts. In this arrangement, the hasp and the staple must each be intentionally released from their respective mounts. In each embodiment, a stop mechanism is provided to limit the travel of tongue and the base through their respective mounts. The hasp and staple can be formed made from sheet metal blanks. The mount for the staple and hasp can be formed as a universal mount from a zigzag shaped sheet metal blank. The staple can be formed from a U-shaped sheet metal blank.

  • Patent number: 5409277
Abstract: A door lock actuator having unlock, lock and superlock modes includes a rotary input member that positions a pivotally mounted output lever in an unlock position, a lock position or a superlock position. The door lock actuator also includes a pivotally mounted superlock lever that has a bypass position and a block position. The rotary input member maintains the superlock lever in the bypass position when the actuator is changed between lock and unlock modes so that the output lever can be moved back and forth between the locked and unlocked positions and moves the superlock lever from the bypass position to the block position when the actuator is changed to a superlock mode so that the superlock lever is moved to the block position to prevent the output lever being moved to the unlock position.

  • Patent number: 5409273
Abstract: A locking-aid device is disclosed for a lock, especially for a vehicle door lock or flap lock, in which a pneumatic single-acting locking-aid drive is provided for displacing an abutment for a rotary latch out of a catch position into a locking position, in which the abutment is secured positively by means of a detent pawl. According to the invention the detent pawl can be lifted out, during the opening of the lock, independently of a movement of the locking-aid drive by means of an operative connection. This can be brought about purely mechanically or by means of a separate drive for lifting out the detent pawl during the opening of the lock, so that the abutment can always jump into its catch position immediately during or after the opening of the lock and thus also allows a successive multiple activation of the locking-aid assistance.

  • Patent number: 5404735
Abstract: A padlock with a built-in anti-theft alarm device that is comprised of a padlock mechanism consisting of a lock structure having a rotational locking pintle bar that is revolved a certain angle to achieve locking and unlocking, a cam suitably positioned at the center of the pintle bar, an electric switch that is actuated by the cam pushing against a switching device, an alarm circuit with an independent power supply and a vibration sensor device. The rotation of the pintle bar revolves the cam such that the lobe pushes against and closes the electric switch, which initiates the operation of the alarm circuit. The vibration sensor device triggers the alarm circuit to emit an alarm sound whenever abnormal vibration is detected. The alarm circuit has an independent power supply that is securely protected by the outer padlock case to prevent damage and power loss.

  • Patent number: 5402662
Abstract: A cylindrical lock includes a casing having an annular front face with an inner circumferential portion surrounding a key insert member received by a key. A keyhole is defined between the inner circumferential portion and the key insert member, a lower portion of the key insert member is displaced from an axial center of a lock cylinder by a predetermined distance. The key includes a cylindrical end received by the key hole. A thickness of an upper side of the cylindrical end is different from a thickness of the lower end such that, when the key is rotated, the displaced lower side of the key insert member causes a width of portions of the keyhole to be varied. Thus picking of the cylindrical lock with a picking tool or the like is prevented.
