Abstract: The present invention provides a receiver that includes a plurality of tuners for receiving broadcasts such as satellite broadcast. A tuner circuit (1) includes an input terminal (11) for inputting a broadcast wave in which a video signal and/or an audio signal are modulated in a predetermined format, and a mount layer (13) on which a main circuit (12) for selecting, from the broadcast wave, a video signal and/or an audio signal included in a predetermined frequency band is mounted. In the tuner circuit (1), a first ground layer (15) is disposed, through a first dielectric layer (14), on the surface opposite to that on which the main circuit (12) of the mount layer (13) is arranged, and a second ground layer (17) is disposed through a second dielectric layer, thereby suppressing mutual interference between tuners.
Abstract: A method is provided for propagating data among multiple locations in an area. The method includes using a plurality of transponders distributed throughout the area, each able to receive, store, and transmit data. The method further includes using scanners moving relative to the transponders, and able to transfer data to and from these transponders over a wide or limited range. When a scanner encounters a transponder (becomes close enough for data communication), it reads data from the transponder and writes data to the transponder, including data read from prior encounters with other transponders. Data written to a transponder by a scanner may include data associated with that scanner, including but not limited to one or more of identification, speed, direction, and time stamp. The method thus propagates data among transponders and makes this transponder data available to scanners as they encounter these transponders.
Abstract: With the aid of critical conditions including remaining power of a communication module and both an available bandwidth and a credit of utilizing communication functions of said communication module, and by cooperating with available network services of said communication module, a communication network currently appropriates for said communication module to be switched to is determined, for achieving an aim of retrieving network services and taking requirements of users into consideration simultaneously. Moreover, when there are no available network services for the communication module, said communication module enters a sleep state for about less than ten seconds, for preventing said communication module from consuming additional power or from bringing in unnecessary consumption in other aspects, where both the additional power and the unnecessary consumption in other aspects are caused from the fact that the communication module searches for available network services continuously.
Abstract: An application-oriented and intelligent method for switching communication modes of a dual-mode communication module is provided. Whether the application program utilizes location-based service is first confirmed. When the application program utilizes location-based service, said communication module is switched to the first communication mode. Otherwise, evaluation, about which one from both the first communication mode and the second communication mode is more beneficial for a user, is performed on the communication module, according to both an available bandwidth and quality of service provided by a communication mode and to both a power and a credit of utilizing communication functions of the communication module. At last, a result of the evaluation is utilized for determining which communication mode from both the first communication mode and the second communication mode to be utilized by the communication module.
Abstract: A method of implementing push-to-talk (PTT) communication between network phone clients utilizing Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and multicast RTP, includes pushing a “Talk” button on a talking client to generate a PTT invitation message (via SIP INVITE or MESSAGE), transmitting the PTT invitation message from the talking client to a SIP server, transmitting the PTT invitation message from the SIP server to a PTT server, consulting a group list stored on the PTT server to identify a plurality of receiving clients associated with the talking client, sending the PTT invitation message from the PTT server to the plurality of receiving clients, the PTT server receiving acknowledgement of the PTT invitation message from the plurality of receiving clients. The PTT server arbitrates the token-requests of the clients, translates a unicast-to-multicast RTP of token-request and talk-burst packets, and then broadcasts to all clients.

Abstract: A portable terminal device capable of emitting a random ringtone, includes a call arrival processing device, in which a radio broadcast is set as one of the items of information indicating the type of ringtone in set data, and the frequency of radio broadcast signals set as a ringtone is detected out of the frequency information in the set data. If the power of the signals of this frequency is at or above a prescribed level, then signals of that frequency are fed to a loudspeaker to cause a radio broadcast to sound as a ringtone.
Abstract: When performing base station selection type transmission power control, transmission of the dedicated physical control channel signal by non-transmitting base stations is halted while minimizing the impact on uplink transmission power control. This decreases downlink interference and increases downlink channel capacity. At a base station, reception quality measuring unit 506 compares the measured uplink reception quality with a target quality, forms a TPC signal on the basis of the results of this comparison, and communicates the contents of this TPC signal to transmission power controller 507. When the base station in question is a non-transmitting base station, transmission power controller 507 transmits the dedicated physical control channel signal only if the contents of the communicated TPC signal instruct a decrease, and otherwise halts transmission of the dedicated physical control channel signal.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for reducing the effect of surrounding noise in a push-to-talk (PTT) system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method includes obtaining a first media stream using a microphone when a PTT functionality of a PTT communications system is in a first state, and identifying a first set of characteristics associated with noise in the first media stream. The method also includes obtaining a second media stream using the microphone that includes the noise and a first sound when the PTT functionality is in a second state. A second set of characteristics associated with the first sound in the second media stream is identified, and parameters associated with a filtering arrangement are determined using the first and second sets of characteristics. Finally, the method includes applying the filtering arrangement to the second media stream to filter out the noise such that a communications stream is created.

Abstract: A method of sending mobile phone contact list data from one mobile phone to another mobile phone is disclosed. The sender composes an SMS or MMS message having contact data from the mobile phonebook attached. The message is sent using a messaging service like SMS or MMS to other mobile phones in a group. Before receiving mobiles act on the message, a check is determined to see if the message contains contact list data. If it does not, the message is processed normally. If the message does contain contact list data, a software program is launched to manage the received contact list data. The program displays the received mobile phone contact list data so that the mobile phone user can examine the data. An import function is run to resolve conflicts, store and overwrite data into the mobile phone's contact database based on the newly received contact list data.
Abstract: A system for AM broadcasting, and listing to audio, as well as, viewing slow scan pictures, by using an ordinary AM receiver and a slow scan video converter. The slow scan can be an AM picture, such as, robot 36, or a FM picture in the AM band, using the FAST FM MODE of a slow scan converter, like the KENWOOD VC-H1. A transmitter, like the AM-88 NORTH COUNTRY RADIO, can broadcast in AM or FM mode on the AM band. Because of frequency differences between the audio and video, and if desired, modulation differences between the audio and video, there is no interference between the audio and video on the AM service. A diplexer and an antenna tuner enable both signals to be sent out from the same antenna.
Abstract: A radioterminal may include a transceiver, a hand-held interface coupled to the transceiver, and an interlock coupled to the transceiver. The transceiver may be configured to transmit and receive wireless communications, and the transceiver may be further configured to transmit high power communications at a high maximum power and/or EIRP and to transmit low power communications at a low maximum power and/or EIRP. The interlock may be configured to prevent the transceiver from transmitting high power communications at a power and/or EIRP that exceeds a threshold when the hand-held interface is activated. Related methods are also discussed.
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed to maintain synchronous communications that uses a global positioning system satellite, a primary communication unit, and a secondary communication unit. The satellite based time reference broadcasts a reference signal to the primary communication unit and the secondary communication unit. The primary communication unit contains a high quality oscillator, and operates a virtual model of a secondary oscillator which is located in the secondary communication unit. The primary and secondary units have synchronous communications with each other by using a global positioning system satellite broadcast as a reference signal. If the secondary unit loses its signal from the global positioning system, the secondary oscillator enters a holdover state and transmits a notification of the holdover state to the primary communications unit.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to interrupting use of a frequency layer convergence scheme that favors selection of a cell on a preferred frequency of a joined point-to-multipoint service. Specifically, a mobile terminal that has joined a point-to-multipoint service having a preferred frequency uses a frequency layer convergence scheme for selecting a cell. The frequency layer convergence scheme favors the selection of a cell on the preferred frequency layer. However, use of the frequency layer convergence scheme is interrupted upon an occurrence of a trigger.
Abstract: An apparatus comprises a link interface to receive an OFDM symbol from a communications link.
