  • Patent number: 7599710
Abstract: There is provided herein a system and method for automatically creating digital video works within a remote server based on digital image content contained in a user's camera cell phone or attached memory card. In the preferred arrangement, the cell phone owner will begin by selecting digital content (e.g., still images and/or video clips) that is to appear in the video work. Optionally, the user will also select a video theme or style that is to be given to the video. The details of the user's choices and the selected video images will be sent to a remote server where the video work will be automatically created. The completed video will then be transmitted back to the user for viewing on his or her own cell phone, thereby creating a custom video work without requiring interaction with a desktop or laptop personal computer.

  • Patent number: 7590390
Abstract: Multiple power amplifiers in an RF front end are coupled to multiple antennas without diversity switching between the PAs and antennas. Diversity switches direct signals to broadcast by a selected antenna to a PA coupled to the selected antenna. Multiple LNAs are similarly coupled to the diverse antennas. Having one PA and LNA set for each antenna removes the need for diversity switching between the PA/LNAs and each antenna improving signal reception. In one embodiment, a single external PA performs broadcast functions and plural on-chip LNAs are used for reception. In another embodiment, phase shifters are coupled to each PA and LNA, which provide beam forming capability for broadcasts, and in phase signal combinations for received signals.

  • Patent number: 7587227
Abstract: A wireless communication system based on a directional speaker is disclosed. The system can include an interface unit and a base unit. The audio signals from the speaker can be generated by transforming ultrasonic signals in air. This allows the production of directional audio signals even when the aperture of the speaker has dimensions in the order of a few centimeters. The audio signals from the speaker can be heard hands-free. Further, privacy protection is enhanced. In one embodiment, the interface unit can be attached or integrated to a piece of clothing at the shoulder of the user, with the audio signals from the speaker directed towards one of the user's ears. The wireless communication system can be applied to a number of different areas, including a communication device, such as a cell phone; a hearing aid; an entertainment system; and a computation system, such as a personal digital assistant or a computer.

  • Patent number: 7580672
Abstract: A communication repeater for use in conjunction with a base transceiver subsystem (BTS) of a wireless communication system. The repeater expands the coverage area of the BTS and allows receivers to identify whether the source of a communication signal was directly from a BTS or was broadcast by a repeater. Identification of the signal source facilitates position determination, particularly in hybrid position determination systems. The repeater implements differential delay modulation of the transmitted signal. The repeater re-transmits the original BTS signal as well as a time delayed version of the signal. Additionally, the repeater introduces synthetic path diversity in the form of spatial diversity or polarity diversity to de-correlate the re-transmitted original signal from the time delayed signal. The repeater can broadcast the delayed signal with the same power as the re-transmitted original signal or can attenuate the delayed signal relative to the re-transmitted original signal.

  • Patent number: 7580681
Abstract: A method is disclosed for determining whether to transmit from a first unit to a second unit, where the transmission is one of a first type and a second type. In the method, a signal from the second unit is received at the first unit, and the strength of the signal as received at the first unit is measured. A determination is made of whether the transmission is of the first type or the second type, and a first threshold is selected if the transmission is of the first type, or else a second threshold is selected if the transmission is of the second type. The measured signal strength is then compared to the selected threshold, and the transmission proceeds only if the measured signal strength exceeds the selected threshold.

  • Patent number: 7577397
Abstract: Transmitting streaming media data in overlapping bursts can reduce data loss when transmitting over radio frequencies to a roving digital receiver. A digital transmitter transmits streaming media information in bursts, where each burst of data preferably contains several seconds of streaming media information. The streaming media information to be transmitted is grouped into transmission bursts, or packets, each transmission burst containing several units of media content, or content units. A content unit is an amount of content that is stored and played by a digital receiver. Each burst contains a certain amount of information, such as a certain number of content units, which are the same as some of those sent in the previous burst. Each burst also contains new content units, i.e. content units that have not previously been transmitted.

  • Patent number: 7574168
Abstract: A selective GPS denial system includes a plurality of GPS deniers for disrupting reliable operation of GPS receivers, a plurality of remote sensor interfaces, a gateway, and a computer management system. Each of the plurality of GPS deniers may be selectively activated. Each remote sensor interface is associated with a respective GPS denier such that each remote sensor interface effectuates the activation of the respective GPS denier. The plurality of remote sensor interfaces and the gateway are communication nodes in an ad hoc wireless network. The gateway communicates instructions to one or more of the plurality of remote sensor interfaces to selectively activate the GPS denier respectively associated therewith. The computer management system is disposed in communication with the gateway and controls the instructions communicated by the gateway, thereby selectively controlling which GPS deniers are activated.

  • Patent number: 7574183
Abstract: Rapid text entry using a wireless telephone is facilitated by correlating at least some of the letters represented by a number key to a two-key combination, namely, the number key and an indicator key such as the star key (which, when depressed along with a number key, can indicate the second letter on the number key) and the pound key (which, when depressed with a number key, can indicate the third letter on the key). Thus, at most two key strokes are required to positively indicate any letter on a numbers-only keypad.

  • Patent number: 7565163
Abstract: The receive power of uplink signals in a CDMA mobile communication system is measured by prohibiting a mobile station from transmitting an uplink signal including a frame over a first channel during a predetermined transmission prohibition period, and measuring a receive power of uplink signals at a base station transmitted from each of the mobile stations located in a cell during the prohibition period. Another method of measuring the receive power includes measuring a first receive power of uplink signals at a base station from each mobile station located in a cell, and measuring each second receive power of uplink signal including a frame only over a first channel transmitted from each mobile station, and then calculating a total receive power of uplink signals excluding frames over the first channel by subtracting respective second receive powers from the first receive power.
