  • Patent number: 7450901
Abstract: A method for discovering a data routing path via satellite link to a mobile platform from a ground segment of a communications network. The mobile platform and ground segment communicate via satellite transponder. Each transponder has a dedicated ground segment equipment chain. A unique path signature is assigned to each chain. The ground segment multicasts, via the chain(s), message(s) containing the path signature corresponding to the chain(s). The platform transmits, to the ground segment, path signature(s) received by the platform via the message(s). The ground segment maintains information for controlling path discovery. Thus misrouting due to differences in transponder path identification is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 7433711
Abstract: A user of a camera equipped communication terminal is aided by the use of the invention when, e.g., dialing a phone number, sending a message to a recipient associated with the phone number, or simply store the phone number in a contact database in the terminal, The camera is pointed in the direction of a surface on which a sequence of symbols presumed to be a telephone number is written, The field of view is aimed using the guiding pattern and, e.g. by pressing a button or selecting an action from a menu, the symbol sequence is recorded in an image, The image, i.e. a sub-image containing the sequence of symbols, is then subjected to optical character recognition (OCR) processing that interprets the sequence of symbols as a telephone number to be used in an application that performs the dialing, message sending or storage into the contact database.

  • Patent number: 7430192
Abstract: A method of utilizing communication channel resources between nodes in a network of nodes is provided. Communication between a set of nodes in a communication network uses a time division multiple access protocol that includes a plurality of time slots. A set of time slots is allocated from the plurality of time slots to a first node of the set of nodes for transmission of a communication signal. At the first node, a time slot of the allocated set of time slots is identified that is no longer needed for transmission of the communication signal. Instead, the first node tunes to a network synchronization frequency during the identified time slot and receives a synchronization signal transmitted by a second node. The second node is not one of the set of nodes in the communication network. The first node synchronizes with the second node using the synchronization signal thereby allowing communication between the second node and the set of nodes.

  • Patent number: 7428423
Abstract: The method provides talk around in an OFDMA communication system by sending a talk around request from a subscriber unit to a base unit. At the subscriber unit a RSSI (received signal strength indication) of a signal received from the base unit is determined and sent back to the base unit, in the base unit the RSSI is compared to a predetermined window, if the RSSI is above the window, the request from the subscriber unit is denied, if the RSSI is within the window, a sub-channel of the OFDMA communication system and a power level are assigned to the subscriber unit, the subscriber unit thereby going into talk around mode, if the RSSI is below the window, the subscriber unit does not respond and the subscriber unit goes into a direct communication mode independent of the OFDMA communication system.
