Abstract: A content delivery network (CDN) service provider extends a content delivery network to gather information on atomically identifiable web clients (called “user agents”) as such computer-implemented entities interact with the CDN across different domains being managed by the CDN service provider. In one embodiment, a set of machines, processes, programs, and data comprise a data system. The data system tracks user agents, preferably via cookies, although one or more passive techniques may be used. A user agent may be a cookie-able device having a cookie store. As the user agent navigates across sites, a CDN-specific unique identifier used by the system to correlate user agents is generated. Preferably, the unique identifier is stored as an encrypted cookie. The unique identifier represents one user agent (and, thus, one cookie-able device's store).

Abstract: There is provided a message hub apparatus for efficiently processing service processing messages in an enterprise system. The message hub apparatus stores a value of minimum residence time as minimum time during which the service processing message is to reside in a message queue. The message present in the message queue is transmitted to a service provider on condition that the minimum residence time has elapsed. The apparatus performs a merge processing of the received service processing message and the service processing message which resides in the queue. A history of the merge processing stored in the apparatus is analyzed, and the value of the minimum residence time is modified based on an analysis result.

Abstract: A method is described which allows a very large (greater than 100,000) number of applications to communicate logically through a many-to-many multicast cloud on the common carrier Internet efficiently by exploiting characteristics of the applications' data streams which allow substantial message culling as well as more standard routing optimization (conventional multicast and optimization standard to normal Internet routing systems). The method describes the function and type of three types of systems which operate together to implement the method. The first is a network enabled client application, such as a distributed simulation or game, which joins an application cloud or federation and communicates its internal state changes into the cloud via a communication applications programming interface.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for automatically defining on a computer data for execution of systems management tasks on endpoints by a systems manager management said endpoints. The mechanism reads connection/disconnection information related to the endpoints collected by the systems management server during a same period of time for all the endpoints, computes the availability trends with the connection/disconnection information for said same period of time classifying endpoints according to the predefined classes of availability trends for endpoints and the computer availability trends, applies rules to create data defining execution of systems management tasks on endpoints according to the result of the classifying step, and makes these data available to the systems management server.

Abstract: An electronic article surveillance system (1) comprises a read/write station (2; 217, 218, 220-224) that is designed to communicate an electronic article surveillance status test-request command comprising zone information that indicates an electronic article surveillance zone for which an electronic article surveillance status that is assigned to said zone is to be tested, and further comprises a data carrier (3; 31-35) having a circuit (11) that is designed to store status data (SD) for indicating whether an electronic article surveillance status is active and to store zone data (ZD) for specifying at least one electronic article surveillance zone to which the electronic article status is assigned, the data carrier (3; 31-35) being further designed to test whether said stored status is active for the electronic article surveillance zone to which it is assigned in the case that this zone is indicated by the zone information provided by the read/write station (2; 217, 218, 220-224).

Abstract: A video based method to detect volatile organic compounds (VOC) leaking out of components used in chemical processes in petrochemical refineries. Leaking VOC plume from a damaged component causes edges present in image frames to loose their sharpness, leading to a decrease in the high frequency content of the image. Analysis of image sequence frequency data from visible and infrared cameras enable detection of VOC plumes in real-time. Analysis techniques using adaptive background subtraction, sub-band analysis, threshold adaptation, and Markov modeling are described.

Abstract: A method for detecting a clear path of travel for a vehicle using an image generated by a camera includes monitoring the image, and utilizing a first patch-based analysis of the image including dividing the image into a plurality of patches, and analyzing each patch to determine a first clear path confidence likelihood for each of the patches of the first patch-based analysis. Each of the patches with the first clear path confidence likelihood greater than a first threshold confidence likelihood is defined as a clear path patch. A second analysis is utilized upon a portion of the patches with the first clear path confidence not greater than the first threshold confidence likelihood to determine a second clear path confidence likelihood for each of the patches of the second analysis. Each of the patches of the second analysis with the second clear path confidence likelihood greater than a second threshold confidence likelihood is defined as a clear path patch.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein comprise a system and method for improving visibility of a roadway using an improved visibility system. The method comprising receiving data from a plurality of fog detectors located proximate a roadway and determining, based on the data from the plurality of fog detectors, that fog is present about the roadway. The method further comprising obtaining, after the determining that fog is present about the roadway, a plurality of images of the roadway by activating a plurality of cameras located proximate the roadway. The method further comprising creating a composite image by combining two or more of the plurality of images, wherein the composite image depicts the roadway unobstructed by fog and transmitting the composite image to a display device located in a vehicle traveling along the roadway.

Abstract: A counter system and method and computer program product for managing counter systems. Counter systems management includes receiving a count event associated with a counter, updating a first stage counter value based on the count event, determining whether to eject the counter value based on a random function of the counter state, and ejecting the counter value. A counter system comprises a first stage update unit configured to accept a count event and to eject a counter. A second stage update unit may be configured to accept an ejected counter value, and includes a second counting module configured to accumulate the ejected counter value.

Abstract: An electronic mail communication device is used in connection with a server for communicating an electronic mail. The electronic mail communication device is provided with an input device that inputs an electronic mail communication command, a storage that stores information indicating whether or not an electronic mail communication through the server is enabled, and a communication control device. The communication control device outputs a signal to the server to establish connection with the server in a case where the electronic mail communication command is input to the input device while the information indicating the communication enable state is stored in the storage. The communication control device inhibits from outputting the signal to the server in a case where the electronic mail communication command is input to the input device while the information indicating the communication disable state is stored in the storage.

Abstract: Server computers and methods for updating or changing user alert message settings when changes are made to one or more user accounts are disclosed. The change in the user accounts can include transfers of a user account or user account identifier from one user account issuer to another user account issuer. The change in user accounts can be initiated by a user or issuer associated with the user account. When changes are made to the user accounts or changes are made to the user alert message settings, the server computer can confirm the changes with the user or issuer associated with the user accounts that are changed.

Abstract: Disclosed are processes for the centralised monitoring of territories to recognize forest and surface fires. A swiveling and tiltable camera installed at a monitoring site supplies images of overlapping observation sectors. In each observation sector a sequence of images includes a plurality of images is taken, at an interval which corresponds to fire and smoke dynamics. An on-site image-processing software supplies event warnings with indication of the position of the event site in the analysed image. A total image and an image sequence with image sections of the event site are then transmitted to a central station and reproduced at the central station as a continuous sequence in quick-motion mode. Event warnings with relevant data are blended into electronic maps at the central station. Cross-bearing is made possible by blending event warnings from adjacent monitoring sites. False alarms are minimized by marking known false alarm sources as exclusion zones.

Abstract: A system and method for determining whether an e-mail originates from a sender authorized by an address provider to send the e-mail to an intended recipient's e-mail address. The e-mail identifies an address provider from which the intended recipient's e-mail address was obtained. The e-mail is delivered to the intended recipient only upon verification that the sender is authorized by the address provider to obtain the intended recipient's e-mail address. The system and method may also provide for determining whether an e-mail originates from a forged source. A server receives data relating to an e-mail, including a purported sender and a verification host. The server queries the verification host with information pertaining to the e-mail and requests confirmation that the e-mail originates from the purported sender. The e-mail is determined to originate from a forged source unless the verification host responds that the e-mail originates from the purported sender.

Abstract: An automated system and method to permit users to find and register available domain names in numerous different ccTLDs. The system provides real-time searching of large numbers of ccTLDs for each user so that during a single web session, the user can simply select the available ccTLDs from the resultant list, and purchase the desired ccTLDs online. The system also formats the user's information in the appropriate manner for each selected ccTLD and performs the necessary electronic transactions to register the ccTLDs.

Abstract: In V2V or other networks in which multiple video cameras can share video data, a user may elect to modify a primary view by electronically “removing” obstructing objects from the primary view. The user begins by identifying the objects to be electronically removed from the simulated view, either by designating the boundaries of the objects or by identifying classes of objects to be removed. Pel locations associated with obstructing objects are identified in the primary data set. Video data provided by cameras other than a primary video camera is analyzed to identify common features in the primary and secondary views and to identify pels that correspond with object-associated pels in the primary view. A merged data set, consisting of pel data from the primary data set and from at least one of the secondary data sets, provides the video data presented in the simulated view.

Abstract: A system and method for the user of a computing device, a Peer, to make a portion of its local storage available to others. A Group is composed of two or more Peers with a Group Manager whose allocated storage forms a Group Bank. A Farm is composed of two or more Groups with a Farm Manager whose allocated storage forms a Farm Bank. The Grid has a Grid Manager and is the overall combination of Peers, Groups, and Farms. A file is stored by splitting it into chunks, storing each chunk on a Peer that is a member of the appropriate Bank, and forwarding the file parameters to an Information Service with a File Index. A file is retrieved by requesting the file parameters from the Information Service, retrieving the chunks from the appropriate Peers, and assembling them into a complete file.

Abstract: There is provided a method for mediating the flow of messages in a computer network having a mediation architecture that includes a plurality of logical nodes in a cubic mediation arrangement. The method comprises handing over one or more mediation tasks between a donor mediator module and a recipient mediator module in response to a change request while maintaining system invariants.

Abstract: A method and structure for passing a bitline voltage regardless of its voltage level via a bitline in a memory device is disclosed. In one embodiment, the method includes detecting the bitline voltage of the bitline, feeding a control signal at an activation voltage level to the bitline pass device to maintain a pass voltage differential of the bitline pass device when the bitline is selected and passing the bitline voltage via the bitline pass device in response to the control signal, where the pass voltage differential is greater than a threshold voltage of the bitline pass device regardless of a level of the bitline voltage.

Abstract: A system and method for circumventing a do-not-disturb status of an instant messaging user including defining requesting, from one or more do not disturb circumvention mediators, do-not-disturb status circumvention of an instant messaging user. Circumvention permission for the do-not-disturb status of the instant messaging user is received. The do-not-disturb status of the instant messaging user is circumvented based upon, at least in part, the circumvention permission.
