  • Patent number: 8255548
Abstract: Methods and systems for simulating an online session between the client and a remote server when the client is offline including simulating a web services API to access information when the client is offline. The client includes a local interface that can communicate with the remote server. During an online session, the data and the functional logic that is invoked to manipulate the data reside on the remote server. As such, the user transmits instructions to view, create, update, delete, or otherwise modify portions of data through the local interface and subsequently through the underlying network. These instructions are ultimately received at the remote server, which then invokes the proper functional logic to perform the instructions in order to manipulate the data. An API is provided that is substantially identical to the web services API that is typically accessed over the internet, but which simulates online functionality when offline.

  • Patent number: 8250212
Abstract: A requester-side autonomic governor is provided for a requester configured to send service requests to a service provider. For example, the requester and service provider may be disposed in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) architected system. A feedback loop, preferably a monitor portion of a Monitor, Analyze, Plan, and Execute (MAPE) loop, is configured to monitor responses to service requests. An autonomic governor mechanism limits the type and/or number of concurrent service requests according to a resource pool scheme, and dynamically adjusts a resource threshold of the resource pool scheme based on information provided by the feedback loop. In one embodiment, the resource threshold is reduced if more than a predetermined number of service requests generated time-outs, and is increased if more than a predetermined number of service requests are being held awaiting available pool resources and less than a predetermined number of service requests generated time-outs.

  • Patent number: 8230044
Abstract: The media session management of the invention encompasses a media server having access to multiple unicast-based media channels and a user terminal. The user terminal generates and transmits a generic, channel-transparent session request to the server. This request initiates a generic, channel-transparent media session setup procedure between the terminal and the server. The setup procedure involves exchange of requests and responses but no media channel is yet selected or notified at the server. Once the channel-transparent setup has been completed, the user terminal transmits a channel-specific rendering request for a desired media channel to the server. In a subsequent channel switch, the terminal simply transmits a new channel-specific request for a new channel to the server during the ongoing session and reusing the negotiated transport parameters of the channel-transparent setup procedure.

  • Patent number: 8230106
Abstract: Techniques and systems for managing transmissions from a TCP source by regulating the flow of acknowledgement signals to the TCP source are described. An acknowledgement signal regulator monitors a data queue used to buffer data packets received from the TCP source and an acknowledgement signal queue used to store acknowledgement signals to be transmitted to the TCP source. An acknowledgement signal release manager determines the available space in the data queue and the expected number of data packets arriving at the data queue, and manages the release of acknowledgement signals from the acknowledgement signal queue to the TCP source so as to prevent an undesired overflow of the data queue resulting from the arrival of an excessive number of data packets from the TCP source.

  • Patent number: 8209375
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling restricted access and server/client handoffs in a communication environment is described. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a first request for a first set of image data corresponding to an image, and responding to the first request with the first set of image data. The method may also include receiving a second request for a second set of image data corresponding to the image and determining that the second set of image data includes restricted data. A prompt for authentication may then be sent. The method may also include receiving the second request along with authentication information, determining again that the second request is for restricted data, and checking the authentication information. If the authentication information is correct, the method may also include providing the second set of image data.

  • Patent number: 8169481
Abstract: A multi-perspective context sensitive behavior assessment system includes an adaptive behavior model builder establishing a real-time reference model that captures intention of motion behavior. It operates by modeling outputs of multiple user defined scoring functions with respect to multiple references of application specific target areas of interest. The target areas have criticality values representing a user's preference regarding the target areas with respect to one another. The outputs of the scoring functions are multiplied by the critically values to form high level sequences of representation that are communicated to the user.

  • Patent number: 8161115
Abstract: A system and method for rapidly transmitting a large volume of e-mails. Based on domain names obtained from destination mailing addresses, a server 10 for a sender sorts e-mails to be transmitted, generates transfer data for each domain name by grouping e-mail data, and uses FTP to transmit the transfer data to servers 30 for distributors whose domain names correspond to those for which the transfer data were generated. At this time, compression is effective for improving the transmission of the transfer data. The server 30, upon receiving transfer data, analyzes the received transfer data to obtain the data for individual e-mails, and distributes the e-mail data to the mail boxes of individual recipients.
