  • Patent number: 7072681
Abstract: A transmission power control system can establish synchronization by matching adjustment start timings while repeating adjustment periods even when start timings of transmission power balance adjustment are different due to fluctuation of transmission delay of control message from the control station to base station, and can increase circuit capacity by establishing balance of transmission powers between the base stations. In the transmission power control system the base station comprises control means for controlling initiation of a balance adjustment period for performing the balance adjustment from a frame number determined on the basis of frame number of the balance adjustment period.

  • Patent number: 7065371
Abstract: A novel and useful apparatus for and method of determining the channel order and channel estimate in a communications system. The present invention is suitable for use with a wide range of channels and is particularly useful in estimating wireless channels such as GSM and other types of cellular channels. A channel estimate is performed on the entire received training sequence. Those taps having an energy larger than the energy of a channel estimation error quantity are selected for the final channel estimation model. The estimation error is calculated by dividing the complete received training sequence into two different portions, wherein both portions are of equal size. A channel estimate is used to calculate the channel estimate of both portions which are then used to calculate the channel estimation error quantity.

  • Patent number: 7062246
Abstract: An adaptive antenna array (14) includes a muliplicity of antenna elements (12a–12k, 48a–48k) responsive to uplink communications (16a–16k) and arranged to support directional-orientated downlink communication to subscriber units (18). The adaptive antenna array (14) is operationally responsive to a signal processor (28) that co-operates with direction of arrival estimation logic (36) to assess an angle of arrival of uplink communications incident to the array. To avoid inter-cell interference, especially during early stages of a call, the signal processor operates to ensure that a wide area downlink beam (108) is provided for a downlink path to an addressed subscriber unit. With time and/or with reported (68,84) downlink quality of service (QoS) metrics, the signal processor (28) regulates (74, 92, 96) a width of the downlink beam by altering the number of antenna elements used to support the downlink beam, thereby altering the downlink beam aperture.

  • Patent number: 7050838
Abstract: There is provided a portable information terminal having a built-in radio communications device which minimizes a drop in the voltage of a battery and diminishes the operation threshold voltage of the portable information terminal, thereby lengthening the operatable time of the terminal. In the portable information terminal, when a radio communications section is in a transmission state, a microprocessor of an interface and a microprocessor of an information processing section are brought into a hold state, thereby deactivating the interface and the information processing section. As a result, the operating current required during transmission can be minimized. When the radio communications section is not in a transmission state, the information processing section and the interface are activated.
