Abstract: A system includes a remote station and a local station having a receiver. The receiver operates in an unlocked state corresponding to its best lock frequency (BLF). The local station derives data indicative of a ratio of the BLF to a reference frequency of the receiver, and telemeters the data to the remote station. The remote station estimates the BLF based on (i) the telemetered data, and (ii) a predetermined estimate of the reference frequency.
Abstract: A satellite is used to route push-to-send messages among terrestrial base stations. Reduced push-to-send delays thereby may be provided, when a source push-to-send radioterminal is widely separated from a destination push-to-send radioterminal. Satellite routing only may be used when the source push-to-send radioterminal and the destination push-to-send radioterminal are not communicating with a single terrestrial base station or with a group of terrestrial base stations that are proximate one another. A destination base station that is communicating with the destination push-to-send radioterminal may be determined at the satellite, at a satellite gateway and/or at a central server.

The radio link controlling apparatus includes a communication request receiving device for receiving a communication request including information about a service type, transmitted from a mobile terminal; a communication start timing determining device for determining communication start timing by the communication channel based on the information about the service type in the communication request received by the communication request receiving device; a control signal generating device for generating a control signal including the information of the communication start timing determined by the communication start timing determining device; and a control signal transmitting device for transmitting the control signal generated by the control signal generating device, to the mobile terminal by the control channel.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for data packet transport in a wireless transmission system supporting broadcast transmissions. A trigger recognized at the transmission node initiates a broadcast transmission, and the resultant set up of a transmission path. A termination trigger then indicates that the transmission node is not serving users desiring the broadcast transmission, and in response the transmission path is shut down. In one embodiment, a multi-cast call, such as a group call, may be transmitted to active users via uni-cast channel(s) or multi-cast channel(s) based on a predetermined criteria, such as number of active users.

Abstract: A method for providing a local cordless-type service comprises the steps of receiving subscriber neighborhood zone selection input so that a mobile telephone equipped subscriber may place or receive calls for a fixed rate, for example, per month without having to pay radio frequency air time charges any time they are located within their selected subscribed-to zones. If the subscribed-to zones are adjacent to one another and the mobile subscriber roams from one zone to another, the subscriber may continue their free call uninterrupted and without paying air time charges. However, when the subscriber roams outside their subscribed-to zones they may be switched from the present local cordless-type services to conventional personal communications services and pay air time charges. However for an active call, no air-time charges are incurred as the user transitions between the cellular/DPCS environment and the local cordless service environment.
Abstract: A communication system (100) for bridging talk groups includes private network communication devices (102) operating within a private network system, and public network communication devices (110, 122, 112) operating within a public network system. At least one communication subsystem (104) is operable with both the private and public network systems. The communication subsystem (104) relays information between the private network communication devices (102) and the public network communication devices (110, 122, 112).

Abstract: Techniques to implement MBMS services in a wireless communication system. In one aspect, a method is provided for processing data for transmission to a plurality of terminals. Frames of information bits (which may have variable rates) are provided to a buffer implementing a matrix. The matrix is padded with padding bits based on a particular padding scheme to support variable frame rates. The frames are then coded based on a particular block code to provide parity bits. The frame of information bits and the parity bits are then transmitted to the terminals. In another aspect, a method is provided for controlling the transmit power of a data transmission to a plurality of terminals. In accordance with the method, TPC streams are received from the terminals and processed to obtain a stream of joint power control commands used to adjust the transmit power of the data transmission.

Abstract: An object of this invention is to make it possible to confirm the safety of persons who have the possibility of encountering the damage of the disaster when the disaster occurred. This system receives information of the disaster occurring region A and information of subscribers in the disaster occurring region A, and stores it in the disaster region subscriber table storage unit. Then, it transmits the disaster notice to the subscriber terminal in the disaster occurring region A. When it receives information of the position of the subscriber terminal or a voluntary safety confirmation response from the subscriber terminal in the disaster occurring region A, it judges whether the subscriber is in the safe state, and stores the judgment result in the disaster region subscriber table storage unit 45.
