Abstract: A method and apparatus for painting traffic marking lines over old paint markings on road pavement is disclosed. The apparatus, normally installed on a marking vehicle having a paint gun and a paint supply, includes a detector which illuminates the pavement and utilizes a spectroscope to analyze the return inspection for the presence of one or more known preselected constituents of the old paint marking to control actuation of the valve on the paint gun and also track the old pavement marking. The apparatus also provides a paint gun delay function to account for the lead distance between detector and paint gun and enables the application of new paint markings directly over the old markings at a relatively high rate of vehicle speed.
Abstract: This specification discloses a mold for use for press-molding an optical element, characterized in that at least the molding surface of a mold base material is coated with an a-C:H film containing 5-40 atom % of hydrogen therein and having a film density of 1.5 g/cm.sup.3 or more, and with hard carbon film containing 0-5 atom % of hydrogen therein and having a spin density of 1.times.10.sup.18 spin/cm.sup.3 or less and a film density of 1.5 g/cm.sup.3 or more.
Abstract: A plate making device for a plate roll that is to be made into a printing plate in which a pretreatment assembly, a photosensitive film coating assembly, and a protective film coating assembly are respectively installed on three separate tables that can be raised and lowered relative to the plate roll. The three separate tables are provided on a common table that is slidable along the axis of the plate roll. The three separate tables and the common table are moved so that a pretreatment assembly, a photosensitive film coating assembly and a protective film coating assembly are successively come into contact with the plate roll, and a pretreatment, a photosensitive film coating and a protective film coating are successively performed on the plate roll by the pretreatment assembly, the photosensitive film coating assembly and the protective film coating assembly. Thus, the entire plate making processes is performed by a single device, occupying lesser spaces.
Abstract: Apparatus for applying a predetermined glue pattern to a predetermined surface of a workpiece, which workpiece is moved in a stepwise, indexed fashion, such that this predetermined surface thereof follows a given path. The predetermined pattern includes first portion which extends along a line which intersects the given path. The apparatus includes a non-contact glue valve having an outlet; a carrier for mounting the glue valve for bidirectional motion along the line intersecting the given path with the outlet thereof in alignment with the first portion of the predetermined pattern and spaced closely above the predetermined surface of the workpiece. A control is provided for turning the glue valve on and off in a predetermined fashion for depositing glue upon the predetermined surface of the workpiece in the first portion of the pattern.

Abstract: A system is provided for tinting eyeglass lenses wherein the lenses are engaged in a frame which is both vertically reciprocated and simultaneously rotated about on an axis central to and orthogonal to the plane of the lens so that an annular gradient tint is produced darker at the outside edges of each lens and becoming progressively lighter toward the center, with the optical center of the lens either being completely clear or substantially lighter than the rest of the lens.
Abstract: The invention is a method and a master machine of carrying out the method, for balancing and correct a workpiece at a single station. The correction apparatus is a material applicator and ultraviolet light source which is controlled by a microprocessor to supply metered amounts of viscous material to a workpiece at a desired location to cure an unbalance. The ultraviolet light source cures the viscous material into a solid deposit.
Abstract: Particulate material for coating foodstuffs falling from a belt of a conveyor within a rotatable drum is distributed substantially evenly over the interior wall of the drum by a guiding device which includes at least one movable plate which is positioned below the belt and which has a longitudinal axis parallel to the end of the belt. The particulate material distributed from the belt to the drum is conveyed by the drum to a conveyor which delivers particulate coating material to a foodstuff to be coated.
Abstract: A screen printing machine for imprinting hybrid circuit boards with thick-film pastes of the type including a horizontally movable printing table (12) and a vertically raisable frame (16), wherein a compressed air cleaner (2) is attached to the frontal or end surface (18) of the frame (16). This compressed air cleaner (22) is actuated by means of switches (28, 30), preferably proximity switches, as a function of the side to side movement of the printing table (12) and thus permits an automatized cleaning process for the hybrid circuit board (14).
Abstract: A device for varnishing printed sheets in a printing machine. The varnishing device includes a varnish pan, a varnish dipping roller and a metering roller for transferring varnish onto a varnishing cylinder. The dipping roller and the metering roller have a drive that can be connected to the printing machine drive mechanism by an overrunning clutch. The printing machine also includes an auxiliary motor by which the dipping roller and the metering roller can be driven when the printing machine is at a standstill. A torque transmission device, for driving the dipping roller and the metering roller, is also provided. The torque transmission device is connected between the auxiliary motor and the dipping and metering rollers. The torque transmission device does not include a rigid rotary connection apparatus for driving the dipping roller and the metering roller.
Abstract: A process for the continuous digestion of cellulosic fiber material is described wherein the material is impregnated with liquid in a closed system comprising a concurrent flow zone and a countercurrent flow zone, the liquid in the concurrent flow zone including black liquor and possibly white liquor and the liquid in the countercurrent flow zone including white liquor. Liquid is withdrawn from the impregnation system at a point located between the concurrent flow zone and the countercurrent flow zone. Besides white liquor a predetermined amount of black liquor is added to the countercurrent flow zone in order to obtain a high liquid to wood ratio in the inlet of the digester.
Abstract: A Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film forming apparatus has a packing unit for orientating and packing a sample which is a composition for forming a monomolecular film developed on a subphase stored in a first tank, a sampling unit for sampling the orientated and packed monomolecular film on a substrate, and an outer casing enclosing the packing unit and sampling unit. The packing unit has a second tank in which a circulating solution is stored and the first tank is disposed in the solution. A temperature of the circulating solution in the second tank is controlled by a first controller and a temperature of atmosphere enclosed by the casing is controlled by a second controller. The first and second controllers are synchronously operated. The substrate is disposed above the subphase in a vertical attitude.
Abstract: A two step method of etching a silicon nitride layer carrying a surface oxygen film from a substrate in a plasma reactor employs the steps of (1) a breakthrough step of employing a plasma of oxygen free etchant gases to break through and to remove the surface oxygen containing film from the surface of the silicon nitride layer, and (2) a main step of etching the newly exposed silicon nitride with etchant gases having high selectivity with respect to the silicon oxide underlying the silicon nitride. The plasma etching can be performed while employing magnetic-enhancement of the etching. The plasma etching is performed in a plasma reactor comprising a low pressure, single wafer tool. Plasma etching is performed while employing magnetic-enhancement of the etching. The etchant gases include a halide such as a bromide and a fluoride in the breakthrough step. The etchant gases include an oxygen and bromine containing gas in the main step.

Abstract: Methods, compositions and apparatus are provided for coating a substrate with a strongly adherent hydroxyapatite coating, which allows for ingrowth of natural bone and strong bonding between the coating and the substrate. The procedure provides for coating under conditions which form sticky particles which bind to the substrate to form a crystalline hydroxyapatite coating. The coating has particular application for prostheses, where porous areas of the prostheses are completely coated with a thin sturdy coating of hydroxyapatite.The apparatus includes a coating trough in which the substrates are present and the reactive components added. The medium is recirculated in an outer circuit through a distribution tank solution preparation tank and coating trough. Means are provided for maintaining temperature and pH. The substrates are maintained in a line normal to the flow in the trough and can be rotated to ensure even coating.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a mixture thin film forming apparatus for accumulating gasified components on a substrate which is arranged in a reaction chamber. According to the present invention, respective components of a gas supply system, which are different in heat capacity from each other, are independently controlled in their temperatures by temperature control parts respectively, so that the respective components can be adjusted to desired temperatures. Thus, the gas supply system is prevented from deviation of temperature distribution, whereby the overall gas supply system can be adjusted within a prescribed temperature range. Thus, raw materials are prevented from precipitation, irregular reaction or the like, to enable stable gas supply.
Abstract: An ink tray includes a housing having a first, second and third chamber. The first chamber has an overflow baffle extending laterally within said chamber to divide the first chamber into an inlet side and an outlet side. An inlet port extends into the first chamber for receiving replenishing ink in the inlet side of the chamber and an outlet port is provided for removal of excess ink from said ink tray. A plurality of portals extending between the first and second chambers for directing replenishing ink to the second chamber from the inlet side of the first chamber and excess replenishing ink from the second chamber to the outlet side of the first chamber. An elongated inking roller is rotatively mounted in the third chamber. The third chamber is configured to expose a longitudinal portion of said inking roller. Absorption material is mounted in the second chamber to contact the replenishing ink.
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved wiper head which includes a laminated wiper including a plurality of discrete layers of a fibrous material and means for bonding the layers to provide a unitary structure. A wiper holder is mounted adjacent an exit end of a tank and includes structure for supporting the wiper in a path of movement of the wire so that the wiper removes excess plating material from the wire.
Abstract: A dispensing device for automatically dispensing measured amounts of particulate material which includes supply means for supplying a quantity of the particulate material and a chute for receiving the particulate material from the supply means. A reciprocating pusher means is positioned in the chute for controlling the amount of particulate material dispensed from the supply means and for discharging the dispense particulate material from the chute. A distribution hopper receives the particulate material from the chute and discharges it to a reciprocating measuring plate having a plurality of removable measuring inserts therein whereby the particulate material is received in cavities in the inserts. As the measuring plate is moved forwardly, the particulate material passes through a control plate having a plurality of slots therein and is deposited in a plurality of mask hoppers for ultimate dispensing.

Abstract: A process for the wet-chemical surface treatment of semiconductor wafers in which aqueous phases containing one or more chemically active substances in solution act on the wafer surfaces, consisting of spraying a water mist over the wafer surfaces and then introducing chemically active substances in the gaseous state so that these gaseous substances combine with the water mist so that there is an interaction of the gas phase and the liquid phase taking place on the surface of the semiconductor wafer. Gases such as hydrogen fluoride, chlorine and ozonized oxygen or other halogen gases act on the wafer surfaces between rinsing steps so that when the wafers are dried, the surfaces achieve extremely high cleanliness levels.
