  • Patent number: 7206556
Abstract: Modification of transmission control parameters is prevented during data transmission in a wireless transmitter. A lockout unit is used to prevent modification of the transmission control parameters during data transmission and allow modification of the transmission control parameters when data is not being transmitted. When the wireless transmitter is included in a computing system a software driver for the wireless transmitter does not need to include a software lockout mechanism. Furthermore, the wireless transmitter including the lockout unit may be tested as a standalone device, facilitating regulatory agency certification as a modular transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7203495
Abstract: In soft hand over in a code division multi access mobile radio communication system, interference in a down link caused by transmission from a plurality of base stations for one mobile station, can be restricted. Control of transmission power is performed according to command from the mobile station only in the base station serving as a primary base station which has minimum propagation loss with the mobile station during soft hand over, and the base stations other than the primary base station perform transmission with restricting output. In comparison with the transmission power control performed by the conventional plural base station transmission, interference for the peripheral mobile station can be reduced to achieve higher down link capacity.

  • Patent number: 7200366
Abstract: A data communication apparatus as a device. A discrimination data of own device is sent. When the discrimination data is received from another device, the discrimination data is stored as a direct communicatable device for the own device. A direct communicatable device list including the stored discrimination data is generated and sent with the discrimination data of the own device. When the direct communicatable device list is received from other device, the direct communicatable device list is stored as an indirect communicatable device for the own device. In response to selection of the discrimination data as a destination address from the discrimination data of the direct communicatable device and the indirect communicatable device, data with the destination address is sent. When the data is received from other device, the destination address of the received data is decided to coincide with the discrimination data of the own device or the direct communicatable device.

  • Patent number: 7187937
Abstract: A paging transceiver and method for selectively paging provides a page to a paging transceiver but does not automatically provide an associated message. The paging transceiver receives the page and alerts the user that a message is waiting and preferably provides a short description of the message. The user can then download or otherwise act on the message at a time and at a place convenient to the user. The user can therefore place the paging transceiver in a location where it can easily receive and reply to the message. The paging system conserves air time and the paging transceiver conserves memory by not automatically receiving the associated messages. The user can determine the time at which the paging transceiver receives transmissions, such as during off-peak hours. The messages stored by the systems and delivered to the paging transceiver may be of different types, such as voice, text, audio, or even video.

  • Patent number: 7184729
Abstract: An automatic gain controller for transceiver elements uses a digital topology to achieve an efficient and rapid gain settling so that an output signal of the variable gain section is within a predefined range. In one embodiment, an input signal is periodically sampled and latched so as represent the gain excess of a variable gain section. An accumulator, including an adder having saturation characteristics and a latch as a feedback element, creates a number for a new gain setting so that the variable gain section may adapt to the new gain setting within one clock period. In one example, a gain range of 84 dB is controllable and settling is achieved within 3 clock periods at most.

  • Patent number: 7184737
Abstract: In a communications receiver for quadrature demodulation, a feedback technique for reducing the image response of the receiver. The communications receiver includes an I demodulator and a Q demodulator. A local oscillator (LO) signal is provided by a PLL to a quadrature LO generator that provides an LO_I signal to an I demodulator and an LO_Q signal to a Q demodulator. The LO_I and LO_Q signals are amplitude and phase-controlled versions of the LO signal. An image/signal ratio (I/S) detector detects the relative phase difference and the relative amplitude difference between the respective output terminals of the I demodulator and the Q demodulator and applies an amplitude control signal and a phase control signal to corresponding amplitude control and phase control inputs of the quadrature LO generator. The I/S detector calibrates the quadrature LO generator during the interstitial interval between the reception of data packets.

  • Patent number: 7181176
Abstract: Data is to be transmitted from one transmitting point to multiple reception points in a wireless communication system. A transmitting antenna array has multiple antenna elements at the one transmitting point. Channel information is measured for each antenna element at each reception point. Antenna adjustments are determined using the measured channel information. The measured channel information from all of the users is correlated to determine weighting factors for each antenna element. The weighting factors to a point to multiple point transmission are applied prior to being radiated by each antenna element.

  • Patent number: 7177602
Abstract: An automatic frequency control (AFC) system in an electronic device is operated by using an AFC-algorithm component to determine a frequency error corresponding to a difference between a frequency of a signal output from a signal generator and a received signal frequency. The frequency error determined by the AFC-algorithm component is multiplied by a scaling factor, which is set to zero after an adjustment has been made to change a frequency of the signal output from the signal generator. The scaling factor is increased from zero to one over time. The scaled frequency error is used to determine whether to adjust the frequency of the signal output from the signal generator.
