  • Patent number: 7286810
Abstract: A phase alternating mixer is implemented by common-base differential transistor pairs, with two cross-coupled pairs providing a switching mixer function with harmonic gating suppression of harmonic responses to the switching mixing by control of local oscillator signals controlling switching of the differential transistor pairs. Rather than a resistive load, a switched capacitance load and integrating capacitors are connected to the output of the differential transistor pairs to provide first order low pass filtering of the double sideband output from the differential pairs, with a controlled bandwidth. Channel select switches demultiplex the double sideband signal into a baseband signal.

  • Patent number: 7286831
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of balancing a load and method of setting up a call using the load balancing method in a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network, which prevents a load from concentrating on a specific Gateway GPRS Supporting Node (GGSN) in the GPRS network, thus reducing a probability of failure in session establishment due to increased traffic. In the load balancing method, when a Service GPRS Supporting Node (SGSN) connected to a mobile node establishes a session, it selects a GGSN having a smallest number of established sessions among a plurality of GGSNs corresponding to an Access Point Name (APN) included in an Activate PDP Context Request message received from the mobile node and requests the selected GGSN to establish a session, thus solving a problem in which a load concentrates on a specific GGSN.

  • Patent number: 7283800
Abstract: An improved adaptive mixer for use in the down conversion module of a wireless transceiver. The adaptive mixer comprises a conversion gain module that is operable to receive a radio frequency signal and to generate an intermediate frequency that is provided to a radio interface in a wireless transceiver. The radio interface is operable to generate a gain control signal and a bandwidth control signal. The gain control signal is provided to a gain control module that is operable to select a combination of load resistance values that will provide a predetermined gain level for the output of the conversion gain module. Bandwidth control logic in the adaptive mixer uses the bandwidth control signal to operably connect a plurality of bandwidth control capacitors to the conversion gain module to control the bandwidth of the output signal.

  • Patent number: 7280838
Abstract: A paging transceiver and method for selectively paging provides a page to a paging transceiver but does not automatically provide an associated message. The paging transceiver receives the page and alerts the user that a message is waiting and preferably provides a short description of the message. The user can then download or otherwise act on the message at a time and at a place convenient to the user. The user can therefore place the paging transceiver in a location where it can easily receive and reply to the message. The paging system conserves air time and the paging transceiver conserves memory by not automatically receiving the associated messages. The user can determine the time at which the paging transceiver receives transmissions, such as during off-peak hours. The messages stored by the systems and delivered to the paging transceiver may be of different types, such as voice, text, audio, or even video.

  • Patent number: 7272408
Abstract: The spectral efficiency of a millimeter wave (MMW) communication system (100) is enhanced by using multiple receive (116a, 116b . . . 116r) and transmit antenna elements (114a, 114b . . . 114t), arranged in arrays. Each of the receive antenna elements (116a, 116b . . . 116r) receives the signals transmitted from all of the transmit antenna elements (114a, 114b. . . 114t) with different degrees of phase shift. The signals which are received are combined in a one channel and substantially cancels out all others, thereby achieving channel separation. The spectral efficiency increases linearly with the number of antenna elements (per array). The spectral efficiency of an array can further be increased by using dual polarization antenna elements and techniques.

  • Patent number: 7272364
Abstract: A wireless system, which minimizes nulls within the wireless system, while simultaneously providing diversity. A wireless system will now have increased capacity and coverage due to an enhanced signal to interference ratio in the areas of beam overlap. The system uses time or frequency offset on the signals input to an antenna to minimize interference in the regions of beam overlap. Additionally, polarization diversity can be introduced using Butler Matrices in conjunction with array elements to enhance the interference reduction.

  • Patent number: 7266388
Abstract: When a signal of GSM 900 frequency band is transmitted, a bias voltage setting circuit sets an optimum bias voltage for the GSM 900 frequency band to a first stage amplifier and a second stage amplifier. The transmission signal is amplified by the two amplifiers. A signal that is output from the second stage amplifier is supplied to a low-pass filter. The low-pass filter attenuates unnecessary radiation waves from the transmission signal. A GSM 900 frequency band amplifier amplifies the output signal of the low-pass filter and outputs the amplified signal. When a signal of DCS 1800 frequency band is transmitted, the bias voltage setting circuit sets an optimum bias voltage for the DCS 1800 frequency band to the first stage amplifier and the second stage amplifier. A DCS 1800 frequency band amplifier amplifies an output signal of the second stage amplifier and outputs the amplified signal.

  • Patent number: 7254373
Abstract: A wireless transceiver including multiple antennas, an antenna switch, and a media access controller that controls the antenna switch for determining when to switch to another antenna based on packet error rate (PER). Instead of switching the antenna on a packet-by-packet basis, antenna selection is made after one or more packets errors have been detected. The CRC is used to identify receive packet errors. A timer is used to determine each transmit packet error when an acknowledge packet is not received in time. A method of selecting from among multiple antennas including counting packet errors, comparing a packet error count with a threshold value to determine a threshold condition, switching to a different antenna if the threshold condition is met, and resetting the packet error count when the threshold condition is met.
