  • Patent number: 7336977
Abstract: The mobile communication apparatus informs occurrence of a missed event with a vibrator 54 in response to the detection of a second state that a case separates from the other case in the apparatus. For example, the missed event can be that the apparatus has a missing incoming call, that the apparatus has an unread message, or that a missed alarm time in the apparatus has already past. Further, the apparatus informs the occurrences without recognizing the LCD 42.

  • Patent number: 7333793
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for performing packet switched handover in a mobile communication network. The system comprises a mobile node, a first and a second packet switching node. The method enables the parallel sending of logical link layer frames from the first and the second packet switching node. This is achieved so that the mobile node does not reject incoming frames received from two logical link layer entities having different states. The benefits of the invention are related to improved quality of service and the avoiding of gaps in received data during handover.

  • Patent number: 7327990
Abstract: In a reception diversity system, a wireless apparatus includes an RF unit, analog signal processing unit, digital signal processing unit, and a control unit which controls the RF unit. The control unit operates only a predetermined system of systems while stopping the remaining systems for at least each intermittent operation period in intermittent reception operation of the RF unit, and stops all the systems in an intermittent stop period in the intermittent reception operation. The digital signal processing unit sets, in the RF unit, an initial reception gain estimated from an arbitrary past reception gain used in a past intermittent operation period as a first reception gain in a new system which is operated in accordance with arrival of a next intermittent operation period, thereby performing switching control of a plurality of systems which respectively demodulate received radio waves, and obtaining desired reception data. A control method for a reception diversity system is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7327992
Abstract: A tracking generator for an RF measurement instrument having a receiver and a controller includes a vector modulator internal to the tracking generator. The internal vector modulator modulates complex baseband signals based on data from the controller to produce a vector modulation signal. The vector modulation signal is used to modulate a local oscillator frequency from the receiver in an output mixing stage to produce a test signal having an output frequency that matches a measurement frequency to which the receiver is tuned. By controlling the complex baseband data from the controller, an adaptive filter at the output of a DAC that produces an analog signal from the digitally modulated complex baseband data, an internal independent oscillator for the vector modulator, or a large offset phase-locked loop, an offset from the measurement frequency may be generated for the output frequency.

  • Patent number: 7328036
Abstract: Various embodiments are described herein to address the need for providing substantially reduced PTT call setup delays. Modifications to channel assignment request messaging (400), such as an IS-2000 Reconnect Message and an IS-2000 Origination Message, are described. In addition, the use of common control channel signaling (e.g., 201), changes to page response messaging (e.g., 301) and new uses for A9-Short Data Delivery messaging (e.g., 203 and 303) are described. Embodiments incorporating some or all of these protocol changes, can provide reduced end-to-end call setup time for PTT as it presently exists in IS-2000 systems.

  • Patent number: 7324797
Abstract: A unique ultra wide band receiver is provided that blends together RF and photonic technologies. The receiver has application as a steering mechanism (600) for a much higher resolution receiver. Some implementations can provide at least four times shorter scanning and processing time than current technology using Bragg-cell technology as a direct replacement for state of the art A/D technology at a high IF frequency conversion rate. The dynamic range offered through use of Bragg-cell processor technology, as used in this IF application, provides greater bandwidth than comparable A/D technology.

  • Patent number: 7313373
Abstract: Crest factor reduction in a multiband transmitter is described. Component signals (xi[n]) are respectively obtained from constituent signals. The component signals (xi[n]) are respectively associated with sub-bands. A superposed signal associated with the component signals (xi[n]) is clipped to obtain a clipping noise error signal. The clipping noise error signal is applied to the component signals (xi[n]) using a least squares estimation to project clipping noise error onto the sub-bands.

  • Patent number: 7313395
Abstract: A wireless communication terminal adaptively controls a forward data rate based on a channel status and with regard to a delay time existing between the detecting of the channel status and transmitting the data. An adaptive data rate control (DRC) method includes steps of receiving a pilot signal from a base station; detecting a channel status by measuring a power level of the received pilot signal; calculating a delay time, the delay time equaling a time interval indicative a pilot signal and reception of a data signal; determining a target forward data rate based on an offset value corresponding to the delay time; and transmitting a value indicative of the target forward data rate to the base station. The forward data rate is requested in consideration of the delay time.

  • Patent number: 7313401
Abstract: A positioning system includes the ability to receive GPS signals and to receive and transmit packet radio signals. The positioning system receives GPS transmissions to determine its pseudo position. The positioning system also receives differential corrections relative to its pseudo position using packet radio. By combining the GPS transmissions and the differential corrections, the positioning system calculates its actual position. A user has the ability to obtain information relevant to their actual position by transmitting a request to a reference station, using packet radio. The reference station maintains an information system and will transmit the requested information back to the user. The information system includes a data storage memory and retrieval system and a direct link to the internet. The user is able to provide information for storage within the information system or on the internet in order to compile the information available from the reference station.

  • Patent number: 7310537
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a communication system wherein stations communicate on a wireless interface. The method includes the steps of including beam identity information into signals transmitted on multiple beams provided by a first station, receiving at a second station signals transmitted from the first station, and identifying beams via which the second station received signals from the first station based on said identity information. At least one beam for transmission on the wireless interface between the stations is then selected. A station configured for the communication comprises antenna means for receiving signals transmitted from the other station on multiple beams and a controller for identifying beams based on beam identity information associated with signals received from the other station.

  • Patent number: 7299025
Abstract: Rejection of local oscillator harmonic response is provided in a mixing circuit with a pair of harmonic gating switches serially connected to the outputs of a balanced differential switching mixer and controlled by a gate clock signal having twice the frequency of a local oscillator signal controlling the switching mixer. An aperture or duty cycle of the gate clock signal determines which harmonic is rejected or suppressed, which is preferably a third and/or fifth harmonic since response of the balanced differential switching mixer to even harmonics is negligible. The resulting simple, efficient circuit is readily integrated directly into a phase-alternating mixer structure for a chopper-direct-conversion radio.

  • Patent number: 7299062
Abstract: In a wireless communication system, an apparatus and method for managing an uplink communication between a network and a plurality of terminals is achieved by transmitting a response condition parameter from the network to the plurality of terminals subscribing to a multicast service. The parameter is associated controlling the uplink communication of the plurality of terminals. The terminal then applies the response control parameter to a predetermined test and responds to the network if the terminal determines that it is qualified to respond to the network in response to a result of the predetermined test. The network evaluates whether the parameter needs to be transmitted to the plurality of terminals and whether the parameter needs to be updated based on at least part of responses received by the network.
