Abstract: An example method involves, when a first quality of service parameter for a failed logical circuit is equal to or less than a second quality of service parameter for a logical failover circuit, rerouting data from the failed logical circuit to the logical failover circuit without requiring authorization from a customer to communicate the data at the second quality of service parameter. When the second quality of service parameter for the logical failover circuit is a lower level of quality than the first quality of service parameter for the failed logical circuit: a customer is prompted for an authorization to communicate the data via the logical failover circuit at the second quality of service parameter; when the authorization is received, the data is rerouted from the failed logical circuit to the logical failover circuit; and when the authorization is denied, the data is not rerouted to the logical failover circuit.

  • Patent number: 8929395
Abstract: Disclosed is a multicast system and a multicast method using a shortened address and an apparatus applied to the same. The multicast system using the shortened address according to the present disclosure has a address configuration for supporting a multicast in an IEEE 802.15.4 MAC (Medium Access Control) layer. Accordingly, when a device processes a multicast through an address configuration of the MAC layer, the device receives the multicast through a simple scheduling such as receiving a beacon signal of a coordinator device only when there is a broadcast of a group including the device. As a result, the device can efficiently perform the multicast in a power managing process or a power processing process.

  • Patent number: 8917632
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for encoding video pictures captured by a mobile device having at least first and second cameras. The method identifies a first rate controller parameter that is based on at least a first value that quantifies one characteristic of the first camera. The method uses the first rate controller parameter to configure a set of rate controllers to adjust a bit rate for encoding video pictures captured by the first camera. The method identifies a second rate controller parameter that is based on at least a second value that quantifies the same characteristic of the second camera. The first and second values are different, and the difference causes the first and second rate controller parameters to be different. The method uses the second rate controller parameter to configure the set of rate controllers to adjust a bit rate for encoding video pictures captured by the second camera.

  • Patent number: 8917616
Abstract: A method for detection of a network address translation (NAT) device in a network is described herein. An edge network device detects a first packet at an edge port of the edge network device. A second packet is detected at the edge port of the edge network device. It is determined whether a time to live (TTL) value associated with the first packet is different from a TTL value associated with the second packet. Where the TTL value associated with the first packet is different from a TTL value associated with the second packet, it is determined that a NAT device is connected to the edge port. Where the TTL value associated with the first packet is the same as a TTL value associated with the second packet, it is determined that a NAT device is not connected to the edge port.

  • Patent number: 8908534
Abstract: A method of lifeboat monitoring between a first and a second communication device, wherein a first monitoring request is received by the second communication device from the first communication device, where the first monitoring request to has a first monitoring time. In addition, a first reception time is determined by the second communication device based on the first monitoring time, lifeboat signals are received by the second communication device from the first communication device, and an interruption in the communication connection to the first communication device is triggered by the second communication device if, during the first reception time following receipt by the second communication device of the last lifeboat signal, a new lifeboat signal from the first communication device is unreceived by the second communication device.

  • Patent number: 8824495
Abstract: A system and method of reserving bandwidth for disjoint time intervals in a wireless network. Parameters for a disjoint network allocation vector (NAV) define a reservation of a plurality of disjoint time durations during which transmissions by devices other than a target device are deferred. Parameters are sent as a control or data packet over a network and received by the devices associated with the network.

  • Patent number: 8824357
Abstract: Systems and methods for improving data transmission rates in communication networks are disclosed. In an 802.11 wireless communication network, where a source node of the wireless network transmits TCP data to a destination node of the wireless network, the destination node does not transmit TCP acknowledgments (ACKs) for the TCP data if 802.11 ACKs indicate that the destination node received the TCP data. If a source outside the wireless network transmits TCP data to the destination node within the wireless network through an intermediate device, such as an access point, the destination node suppresses transmitting TCP ACKs. The intermediate device transmits TCP ACKs as proxy for the destination node to the source. The intermediate device also suppresses TCP ACKs where a source node within the wireless network sends the TCP data to a destination node outside of the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 8817704
Abstract: A data processing section selects either base station mode or terminal mode and executes communication. A control section controls operations relating to the base station mode and the terminal mode. A receiving section receives an instruction to switch to the base station mode from other wireless device set in the base station mode, in the case where communication is set in the terminal mode. An AP switching section switches to the base station mode in accordance with the instruction. An instructing section instructs other wireless devices set in the terminal mode to switch to the base station mode, after a predetermined period is passed from the time when the mode is switched to the base station mode. An STA switching section switches to the terminal mode after giving the instruction.

  • Patent number: 8780938
Abstract: A technique for performing layer 2 processing is described. In a method implementation of this technique, at least one first RLC SDU is created from one or more first RLC PDUs. It is assumed here that the first RLC SDU belongs to an incomplete RLC SDU set that is to comprise at least one second RLC SDU, and that the second RLC SDU is to be created from at least one second RLC PDU not yet available. In a next step, a first PDCP function is applied to the first RLC SDU to create a data packet. The RLC function is only performed after the second RLC PDU has become available (or after an RLC time-out). Then, after the RLC function has been performed, the data packet is released to a second PDCP function.

  • Patent number: 8737408
Abstract: Techniques are described for managing communications between multiple computing nodes, such as computing nodes that are part of a virtual computer network. In some situations, various types of modifications may be made to one or more computing nodes of an existing virtual computer network, and the described techniques include managing ongoing communications for those computing nodes so as to accommodate the modifications. Such modifications may include, for example, migrating or otherwise moving a particular computing node that is part of a virtual network to a new physical network location, or modifying other aspects of how the computing node participates in the virtual network (e.g., changing one or more virtual network addresses used by the computing node). In some situations, the computing nodes may include virtual machine nodes hosted on one or more physical computing machines or systems, such as by or on behalf of one or more users.

  • Patent number: 8724665
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses to multiplex logic data pseudo synchronously are described. A representation of a multiplexer logic is generated to transmit data items asynchronously relative to a design clock. The data items may be transmitted under control of a transmission clock from a first integrated circuit to a second integrated circuit. A representation of a counter logic may be generated to couple with the multiplexer logic for transmitting the data asynchronously. Additionally, a representation of reset logic may be generated for a configuration to repeatedly reset the counter logic. Synchronization signals may be generated for a design clock cycle of a design clock driving the data items. The synchronization signals may be transmitted via the transmission clock asynchronous with the design clock.
