Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for interfacing with a user of a computer system. In one implementation, a method is provided that comprises providing a tabstrip controller to display different components of an application in a display, wherein in the display the components are displayed at once as a plurality of tabs in a tabstrip. Further, the method may include controlling the tabstrip to allow at least one tab to be removed from the tabstrip and, optionally, to be displayed in a separate display entity, e.g., a free-floating or docked window. Embodiments of the invention further relate to a user interface for interfacing a user with a computer system and to a computer system arranged to generate a user interface. Embodiments consistent with the invention also relate to a computer program product and an article of manufacture.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to a system and method for a transparent record. A record is displayed in a graphical user interface. The record contains at least one container having one or more elements. In an embodiment, a read service accesses a first interface of the container responsive to receiving input selecting the container. The one or more elements of the container are read and displayed in the graphical user interface.

Abstract: An improved human user computer interface system, providing a graphic representation of a hierarchy populated with naturally classified objects, having included therein at least one associated object having a distinct classification. Preferably, a collaborative filter is employed to define the appropriate associated object. The associated object preferably comprises a sponsored object, generating a subsidy or revenue.

Abstract: A system and method providing a user definable task based interface is described. A software program typically includes a number of tools. The tools may be utilized to perform operations on data, such as creating or editing a file using the software program. A user of the software program may organize the tools into tasks, based on the what the tools are used for. A task may be defined as a set of tools grouped to facilitate a particular work item. The task and associated tools are then presented together in the user interface. For example, a task may be to “draw a foundation.” The tools necessary for drawing a foundation may include measuring, drawing boundaries, etc. The tools for these steps in drawing the foundation may be grouped together into a task. The task and associated tools may then presented to a user via a user interface for the software program. For example, an icon representing the task “draw a foundation” may be presented in the user interface.

Abstract: A method of searching recorded video from a surveillance camera comprising the steps of displaying a first timeline representing a first period of time, using a first user input to select a first time on the first timeline, using a second user input to display a second timeline, said second timeline having a shorter duration of time than said first timeline, using a third user input to select a second time on the second timeline, and using a fourth user input to display the video that was recorded at the second time.

Abstract: The invention described herein provides a video analysis tool to assist a computer programmer working on a program that effects video data. The tool may be integrated with program code. When enacted, the tool obtains statistical information related to the video data and information corresponding to functions of the code. The code may be responsible for encoding, transcoding, and/or decoding video data, for example. The tool is integrated with a video decoder to allow the information to be output with raw video data. The present invention is particularly useful for developing, debugging and analyzing programs responsible for encoding, transcoding, and/or decoding video data, such as video data compressed according to an MPEG standard.

The system comprises, among other things, a personal digital assistant. The personal digital assistant includes the following: a display device; a phone device; a call device configured to control the phone device and to display a selectable interface on the display device; a hard button configured to initiate the call device; and a selection mechanism configured to receive user selections from the selectable interface.

The program is analyzed to determine a plurality of parameters, which are displayed, e.g., in a list, tree diagram, palette, etc. User input is received selecting one or more of the plurality of parameters. A GUI for the one or more parameters is generated, comprising one or more GUI elements, e.g., controls and/or indicators, corresponding respectively to the one or more parameters, e.g., the one or more parameters are analyzed with respect to data type, and the one or more GUI elements determined based on the analysis, e.g., by user selection from a plurality of GUI elements presented in response to the analysis, added to the GUI and associated with the one or more parameters. Abstract: A graphics integrated circuit chip is used in a set-top box for controlling a television display. The graphics chip processes analog video input, digital video input, a graphics input and an audio input simultaneously. The chip processes graphics images organized as windows. The chip obtains data that describes the windows, sorts the data according to the depth of the window on the display, transfers graphics images from memory, and blends the graphics images using alpha values associated with the graphics images.

Abstract: An improved application sharing system and method allow sharing of documents on a per document basis rather than on a per application basis, in order to simplify the user experience and to provide a more secure sharing environment. A window marking method is used to construct a window list describing the shared and unshared status of various windows. In an embodiment of the invention, a viewer machine displays only a most recently active shared document window even when other windows are also marked as shared. In this way, a viewer's attention can be automatically focused on a current document of interest.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing graphical user interfaces are described. To provide greater access and consolidation to frequently used items in the graphical user interface, a userbar is established which includes a plurality of item representations. To permit a greater number of items to reside in the userbar, a magnification function can be provided which magnifies items within the userbar when they are proximate the cursor associated with the graphical user interface.

Abstract: A wizard user interface capable of being cancelled and later resumed without loss of data is disclosed. Canceling from the wizard prior to its completion will optionally cause data entered on any of the wizard's pages to be saved to a file and stored in non-volatile memory. Subsequent invocation of the same wizard user interface will optionally cause the data to be read from the file and repopulated into the wizard's pages to restore the cancelled wizard to its pre-cancellation state. The user interface accordingly permits data entry to be performed in phases, with the wizard being exited between phases.

Abstract: A method that incorporates a detailed, precise procedure of designing a user interface by utilizing agent behavioral models. This method applies quantitative and qualitative agent behavioral models derived through the Categorize Describe-Model (CDM) methodology to the iterative design stage of interface development. The method includes: (1) categorizing at least two users; (2) validating targeted user behaviors and preferences; (3) capturing emergent behaviors and preferences; (4) tracking design requirements and implementations; (5) accommodating diversity in performance and preference during interactive testing; and (6) customizing a user interface design to each of the at least two users.

Abstract: A computer system and method is disclosed that provides a single-page zero-footprint browser-based user interface with rich user interface features more commonly found in a traditional client-server application. The system and method includes one or more web servers, reporting servers, relational database servers, data warehouse servers, and client workstations for providing the browser-based application. A user requests that the browser-based application be retrieved from a server. A single page is received from the web server that contains code for a user interface for the application. The user interface with multiple content windows is displayed to a user. When at least one piece of data needs to be retrieved from a data source, an asynchronous request is sent to the server for the data from a hidden frame in the page. The data is received from the server and used in the application. Other requests for data are also made asynchronously.
